Blue Ginger, located in Wellesley, brings urban dining and sophistication to the suburbs. In celebration of its 10-year anniversary, Blue Ginger expanded with a Rockwell Group-designed renovation, creating a chic, feng-shui inspired space with three distinct dining options. Enhancements include an updated main dining room in which to savor Ming's signature East-West cuisine, three private dining rooms, and the new Lounge at Blue Ginger, complete with cozy banquettes and a 10-stool granite bar. An Asian Tapas menu is served in the Lounge, featuring casual, shareable dishes like "Ming's Bings," Ming's East-West take on the burger. "Have visited Blue Ginger several times over the past year plus since moving to Boston. Terrific restaurant. Excellent food without the narcissistic pretension of many restaurants owned and run by name chefs. Ming Tsai is in a class by himself on TV (rarely uses the "I take MY onions and chop those bad boys (WHY ????) and put them in MY hot pan with MY hands and stir them with MY spoon . . .). The man is pure class, the anti-Guy Fieri, and his restaurant reflects it. I suspect the place is a bit crowded and noisy on weekends but I generally go earlier in the evening on a weeknight and have had nothing but terrific experiences.
The spring rolls with mushrooms and leeks are not to be missed."

"We are long time fans of both Ming Tsai and Blue Ginger. We've been celebrating anniversaries for several years here and always have a great experience. This year was even more special. We had the opportunity to speak with Ming on the telephone about something but hadn't been in the restaurant at the same time as he was. This night he was there and visited with us at our table. He remembered having spoken with us and was just charming. He personally brought our meals ( Rack of Lamb & Crab encrusted Halibut) to the table and then he checked on us not once but twice.
The food was outstanding, Halibut was the best I ever had and the Lamb was cooked perfectly. Our server, Doreen, was professional,attentive, and knew the menu very well."

"Overall a fabulous meal at Blue Ginger. Nicole, our server was attentive and wonderful. We started with the spring rolls and poke. Both were equally delicious. For a main course, my mom and I had the lobster and my dad and aunt had the halibut. Everyone loved their meals. Can't wait to go back!"

"We had lunch at Blue Ginger and although it was very difficult not to order the butterfish (absolutely delicious, I order it for dinner EVERY time) but the salad choices were great and did not disappoint. As always, the service, ambience and wine selection were top-notch. The fish taco was good, but (sorry!) the Sole Proprietor in Worcester does it even better!"

"I'm not sure why there is so much excitement about the foie gras shumhai (it was a bit boring to me), and my salad was just sad. I found the hot & sour soup to be very salty. However, the tuna appetizer was tasty, as was my butterfish (although my portion was a bit small). My tablemates all seemed to enjoy their duck, lobster & tenderloin. The desserts, while good, were not amazing. The service was solid but not perfect (i.e. my coffee cup remained empty for quite some time, there was never enough cream for the table, etc. The bus-people worked hard.), and the atmosphere was comfortable. I will return, but likely skip the appetizers and perhaps even dessert."

"Of course since this is a restaurant with a notable chef, the expectations are very high. We had two appetizers, three entrees that we shared and one kids meal plus a bottle of wine. The appetizers were good (Hamachi Carpaccio and fried calamari) with the thai dipping sauce for the calamari being excellent. The wine we chose was a Cab from France, also good. The Duck breast was OK as was the Beef Tenderloin. The Coq du Vin was fair as the chicken was dry. The Kids meal (Chicken Fingers with Shanghai Noodles) was not good, chicken and noodles were extremely dry, the noodles appeared to have been prepared well in advance of being served."

"The food was excellent. Chef Tsai was in the house, visiting tables and running the kitchen. Although our waiter was pleasant enough, he completely forgot to put in our order for our appetizers. We were served our main courses first and the appetizer (we declined our second app at that point) arrived in the middle of us finishing our main courses. We received apologies and the appetizer was taken off the bill, but it kind of put a damper on an expensive, special occasion meal."

"This is maybe the 5th or 6th time we've gone here for a special occasion, just me and my husband, and we love it every time. I had the butterfish and it was fabulous. We also had his famous fried calamari with Thai dipping sauce and we both got dessert. We'd rather spend a lot of money for a food experience than dine out often and have food which is not as good as we make ourselves.
Parking is easy in the rear...Try it if you want really good food served incredibly artistically with some surprise flavors. Probably not the best choice for people with limited palates."

"This was my first time at Blue Ginger. Overall the restaurant was very good. They were very accommodating when we needed to add a person to our party at the last minute. It went a bit down hill with the service after that though. The bartender did not have the best skills around as a sugared martini glass came out sticky from the lime juice. A very 101 thing to not do. The remainder of the service was mediocre and a bit awkward after that. But then the food came out and made everything all right. The food was excellent."

"I've always wanted to go here, being a Ming Tsai fan, and had heard mixed reviews but wanted to try it for myself. Our waiter was wonderful, very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was terrific, though the calamari was disappointing. Just tasteless. I loved the butterfish and my husband had the Tuna Poke for appetizers and the scallops for dinner. Next time I have to have the Poke; it was delicious! It is quite expensive so this will be one of our special occasion spots, but it was worth it!"

"For a restaurant of this notoriety and expense, some of the preparations were off or disappointing. The calamari Thai dipping sauce tasted like a mix of concentrated salt and lemon juice. The tenderloin was a very good cut of meat, but the glacé and hash, etc... accompnying the meat was very salty. I felt later as though I had eaten at an inexpensive Chinese restaurant--craving water to rebalance the electrolytes! Our server was efficient, but unfriendly (not one smile all evening) and not particularly helpful with recommendations. The sablefish was very good, as was the Vietnamese Fresh Rice Noodle Roll with Tofu."

"Ming Tsai should be a little ashamed. He sets out Blue Ginger to be a Guide Mich 3 star; it barely deserves one. The coq au vin was too dry (please try sous vide!), the lobster was better but not spectacular. And the wine indifferent. With tax and tip we paid $200 for two; that's a little overpriced for an American one-star restaurant, but we were splurging for KiJu, a significant birthday (we shared a dessert and an appetizer and an after-dinner wine)so maybe I'm being harsh, but I've had better at Christie Hill in Lake Tahoe for a little more than half the price. In the competition between SFO and BOS, BOS is not winning."

"We ate there Tuesday night, when the restaurant was half empty. Our waitress was lax in her service, despite her working only three tables. We asked for salt and pepper, and she returned with them ten minutes later. We needed plates for a course, and she never noticed. etc.,etc.
Our Charcuterie Plate first course was missing one of the three items; neither the kitchen nor the waitress cared. The kitchen put an enormous glob of mustard on the plate, plus extra toast, to cover up the missing food. No respect for their craft, the cuisine, or the patrons.
My main course, Indonesian Curry Pasta, was extremely dry, and clearly badly prepared. ( I should point out that I was on Television with a cooking show before Ming Tsai probably ever cooked"

"Food is outstanding and the staff is even better. We moved to the Boston area 3 years ago and it is by far our favorite place. I also hosted a dinner for 25 people there recently and they did a fantastic job. Many of the guests had never been there and the feedback I received from them was outstanding."

"The food was good. No complaints there. My wife had the lobster and I had the "butterfish". We both enjoyed our meal. Ordered appetizers. Her calamari was not the best (a little soggy), but I had the Shiitaki leek springrolls and they were excellent. There were a few babies in the restaurant, which is not an issue if I was at the 99. However, if I'm dropping 220 bucks for a nice meal, having babies cry next to us can be distracting. Not the best meal I've had for the price, however the food was good but I wouldn't say excellent."

"Great night......servers were complaining about issues to the bartenders, which customers shouldn't be able to see and hear. Ming was in the dining room chatting with people and even stop at or table for a few minutes. Great meal"
