Brasserie Max & Julie
First French Brasserie in Houston, Brasserie Max and Julie serves traditional French food as you may find it in Paris or Lyon.
Boeuf Bourguignon, Steak Tartar, Onion Soup and soufflé are but a few of the many dishes served. Chef Boudreaux love of fine cuisine and a wide array of French wines from our cellar are sure to make your evening a pleasant one.
Patio dining is available year round in one of our two patios ( upstairs and downstairs) so feel free to simply request outside dinning should you choose to do so.

"This was our first time to try this place. My boyfriend had heard good things about it so we had high expectations. Those expectations were met!
I think we got one of their senior serving staff as he was French and full of information about all the dishes. He even offered us an off the menu fish dish for 2 ( that we didn't bite on ). I had the special which was a grilled halibut and my boyfriend had the salmon - both were great. The cauliflower gratin was yummo too!
We will definitely go back. (BTW: the french onion soup was very good but includes a big hunk of bread that was too much)."

"We went for Mother's Day brunch with my 4 and 2 year old. We asked for an almondine fish. It came out without the almonds and not very tasty. I was pretty disappointed in the mash potatoes as well. i ordered crepes for my girls which they didnt like and i asked for kethup which never came. wouldn't go back for the food at all. The server lady was wonderful but things moved very very slowly. Every time I would ask for something, it took a pretty long time to come back to us. Being seated took us a long time as well. All in all, I would go back for the seating but nothing else. Pretty disappointing... I did like them giving me a rose before I left. Not very child friendly."

"Waiter had no idea about wine, didn't bring lemon with water as requested (twice), didn't refill water, checked on us once, didn't refill wine despite putting chilled bottle far away (we had to walk over and get it and pour ourselves). At least he was self aware as he apologized at the end for bad service. The food was fine, somewhat heavy and often contains extra ingredients that dont make sense (tomatoes in a pear gorgonzola walnut salad, etc). It was like going to any french brasserie in France, they wont all be awesome but the food is fine. I probably won't go back though it wasn't bad."

"Food was very good. Oysters on half shell very small (from Virginia). they should buy Texas oysters. Lamb excellent, but I am accustomed to having 3 or 4 on the plate from high quality restaurants, not 2. Duck was excellent. Fish Daily special very good. I liked the fresh green vegys rather than usual high carbs (rice, potatoes, pasta). Ambience early in evening (6pm) nice, but as evening continued, noise level increased so that it was difficult at times to carry on conversation at table. Wait staff very good and gave good suggestions on food selections and wine. Probably better for adults versus "family" with small children."

"I have dined here at least six times in the past year and it is always delicious. The warm bread placed on your table is wonderful, crunch crust, warm soft on the inside. I especially like the boeuf bourguignon - what I call the French version of Yankee Pot Roast or probably vice versa. The portion is huge and the carrots are fresh and the beef so tender. Brunch is also very good. I had soft boiled eggs and shaved country ham with arugula. It was delicious and only $7.95 or so! I love to sit outside on the deck - especially upstairs. I go here with friends often just to sit outside and sip wine and eat wonderful French food. Highly recommended."

"I am a frequent bruncher here due to the excellent ambiance and food; however, I have been disappointed in the service for the last few visits. We had to ask for water and a place setting four times, we had to ask to have water glasses refilled and it was at least 10 minutes before our server greeted us. The place was not crowded at the time. I want to continue patronizing max & julie and am willing to give it one last chance but if there is no improvement in service, I am inclined to find a new place to brunch."

"The fresh oysters are highly recommended and the waiter, Matt gave us great recommendations. We were happy with both our fish medley and duck dish, though the duck leg was too dry and tough for my taste. We had the lemon soufflé for dessert which was moderate. "I've eaten twice at Brasserie Max and Julie. It is a special occaison place..i.e. pricey, especially if you order wine..but it is worth it. Both times our service was excellent: attentive without being cloying. The wine list is excellent, and we have especially appreciated that the list features several nice half bottles. The menu has a nice range which includes traditional French dishes. The desserts are worth writing home about. Just had the best bread pudding I've ever had in my life. It was amazing. Rather than being presented with a mushy affair, I was presented with a ever so slightly crunchy bread (croissant?) concoction with chocolate sauce and blueberries. Wonderful. Will go here again next time I'm in Houston."

"My wife and I and a friend ate here following ushering for a matineeat the Alley Theatre. Our friend and I enjoyed the special, grilled swordfish over green beans and roaster potatoes. It was excellent, although a little pricey at $32. We had not, however, inquired about the price when we ordered it. My wife had the Cassoulet which she said was good but not great. My wife and I split an excellent salad and we all shared a very good bottle of J M Crochet Sancerre. It was a very good meal and we will certainly return again."

"We've eaten here several times and have always enjoyed ourselves immensely. The restaurant reminds us of our favorite places in New Orleans because of the antiqued decor and French inspired food. It's a quiet, sophisticated dining spot where one can enjoy a leisurely evening with good friends without being disturbed."

"This was not our first visit to Brasserie Max & Julie. Saturday night was a special occasion (Birthday) so we wanted to celebrate. Rack of lamb on the menue was the main draw and the wine suggested was a good companion. Everything was as we remembered and we'll definitely go back again."

"Highly recommend the Veal Sweetbreads. My wife had the special, which was steamed mussels and linguini. The souffle du juor was Vanilla and it was excellent. Also nice to see several wines by the half bottle. Will definitely be dining again soon."
