Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel Reviews List
Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
An authentic bit of North Woods set down in Southern California. Before the turn of the century the huge logging wheels holding our sign were pulled by oxen and used to haul logs out of the North Woods. The sign itself is mounted on a slab cut from a thousand year old mammoth redwood tree. Inside you will find steaks, seafood and sandwiches, also of giant size and quality, our tribute to hearty appetites and to the early pioneers of the North Woods.
"For a party of 11, the service was quick and easy. We were seated promptly, and the server was attentive and quick. Drinks were continually refilled, food was served promptly. There were no problems."

Review 3 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"I was expecting something special. I found the food to be over priced and the portions wasteful. The steak was good, not great. The chicken was as parched as an alcoholic in the Mojave during Prohibition. The cabbage salad was bland, the green salad overdressed. Probably will not ever return."

Review 4 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"Our daughter selected Northwoods Inn for her 21st birthday celebration dinner with the family and a few friends. This isn't a place we would have a weekly dinner because it is really for special occassions. They serve the kind of food you would eat when you want to splurge. We always enjoy the food here and the place is just "fun". D's friend brought cupcakes and the hostess asked if they could take them to the kitchen and bring them out for us later. Sure enough... once we ate our dinner, the wait staff came out singing Happy Birthday, carrying the cupcakes with candle lit up! Nice touch Northwoods Inn!"

Review 7 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"I moved from the San Gabriel Valley several years ago and hadn't had the opportunity to eat at the North Woods Inn in a long time. Friends still in the area mentioned it as a favorite, so I made a reservation there for my 21st wedding anniversary dinner spot. We were cordially greeted and seated promptly. The staff was attentive and professional. The food was prepared fairly quickly and the portions were plentiful, to say the least! The traditional of throwing the peanut shells on the floor surprised my wife and we had good fun from that. Prices were moderate, especially considering the quantity of food. So glad the red cabbage salad is unchanged. When you go take your appetite and enjoy!"

Review 9 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"This place will never win any awards for fine cuisine, but the food is good, solid "American" fare, in a very fun and traditional place (as the name implies, complete with fake snow on the fake log cabin roof!), with some really simple but delicious foods, like the red cabbage salad, cheese bread, and blue cheese iceberg salad they're known for! Servers couldn't be nicer, or more accommodating! Been coming here for decades and will keep doing so!"

Review 10 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"It's been over 20 years since I last ate dinner there and was looking forward to having the cheese bread and salads. The cheese bread was burned, but the salads were still as delicious as I remember them to be. The baked potatoes used to be huge and served with your choice of toppings on top of the potato, not given on the side in little paper containers. Overall, the food is still very good and I would recommend Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel."

Review 12 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"I've been coming to Northwoods Inn for over 40 years. It is a good place for steaks, fish, chicken. It has been around a long time. The food is pretty good. Fair prices. Bread and salad are excellent. They give you a lot of food and you don't go home hungry. Don't even think of coming here for health food type of eating. It is real comfort food and a lot of it."

Review 13 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"North Woods has been a family tradition for years, and in the past couple years an Easter tradition. The food is uniformly fantastic; they've resisted the urge to skimp on portion or prep as cost of everything has gone up over the years. It's a bit pricy (entrees in $20s-$30s) which is why we only do it a few times a year (plus they give you so much food you wouldn't be able to fit through the door if you ate there frequently) but worth every penny. The service is also great, in all the years we've been going I can only recall one instance of poor service."

"It has been many years since I've been to North Woods Inn and was so glad to be able to introduce my grown children to it all over again. We all reminisced as the memories began to return. Still has that warm feeling of years gone by and the FOOD is still great and so GENEROUS. EVeryone should try it at least once! Many thanks for keeping it alive."

Review 15 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"Thank you to Rachel, our server, and the manager at San Gabriel Clearman's North Woods Inn, for making my mother's 94th birthday celebration extra-special. From the royal treatment to the great food and wonderful "Happy Birthday" song at the end of the meal, we all had a wonderful time. Best of all, my 12 year-old twin boys loved eating the peanuts and tossing the shells on the sawdust on the floor. The richness of the wood and beautiful paintings, plus the Dutch oven menu boards made our lunch experience all the more fun! My mother loved her halibut and the red cabbage was so good! Thank you again for everything! Clearmon's North Woods Inn in San Gabriel was as much fun for me as adult as it was magical for me when I was a child!"

"Excellent red cabbage salad and cheese bread. Portions are huge, plus all you can eat salads and cheese bread, so you definitely don't go away hungry! I had not been here in many years. It was still as great as I remember and brings back lots of great memories."

Review 19 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"Great food and great waiter. Unfortunately it started out badly, we arrived for our reservation at 9:00 and were told our table was ready and it would be a moment. Almost 20 minutes later after 3 other tables from the standby list were seated ahead of us we asked the hostess at the stove about why we hadn't be seated and she was so rude and couldn't be bothered to help us. She refered us to the hostess by the door who then said those people were ahead of you for reservations (which I believe was a lie) finally we were seated. The rude hostess by the stove showed us to our table and walked so fast we couldn't even see where she went. NOT happy with the hostess staff, thankfully everyone else was very good."

"I haven't been to North Woods for 20 years. Still as good as ever. I had lunch, part pleasure, part business, and the setting was perfect. The service was exceptional. The garlic bread is to die for."

Review 22 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"My friends and I decided to dine at this location because of the cabin/winter theme and then upon further research, due to the reviews we read. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will be returning. Like so many others, we would recommend the cheesy bread and the salad - both are amazing!!! We wished that someone would have told us to skip the appetizer because the meal portions are HUGE AND none of us could finish our meal (my leftovers lasted for two additional meals). We're already looking forward to a return visit!"

Review 23 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"Great Seafood and Beef menu with excellent combos as well. Great service at the bar and at the table. Cost can be average to higher end, but good value for the dollar. People rave about the two, yes two, house salads and the unending supply of fantastic garlic cheese bread. They were absolutely right. And you can exchange for veggies if want. Excellent tap beers sized to your thrist, good companion wines selections by glass or bottle. Just a great meal for the four of us. It was well worth the 40 mile trip for both couples to meet in the middle. We are gonna do it again."

Review 24 for Clearman's North Woods Inn of San Gabriel
"A lot of fun, as always, sawdust & peanut shells on the floor, high noise level as everyone else is having fun too. Great food, friendly wait staff. Good for smaller groups, but in larger groups it's likely to be difficult hearing folks near the other end of the table."
