"Had the "special" recommended by the waiter, which was lamb chops and some kind of special fish, a couple of appetizers and 2 bottles of the (not so good) house cab. It was served family style for the six of us at dinner. The bill was over $100 per person. Maybe I'm not a high roller and DC is expensive, but I would not call it a good value."

"We went to Kellari for Mother's Day Brunch and had a lovely brunch with unlimited mimosas. The food was delicious, the jazz set the mood and the welcoming staff kept our glasses full. We had a great experience and I would highly recommend Kellari for special occasion brunches with family or friends."

"Had Mother's Day brunch and there were enough waiters to go around but our service was very slow. The food is very good but expensive. For lunch I ordered a $26.00 fish and you get nothing with it. You have to order side dishes. They give you unlimited champagne or mimosas if you order a brunch entree- go figure. The bread basket was terrible white bread with grill marks and it was cold."

"Went to DC for an overnight stay. Saw Kellari when I used open table to look for resturants. We are Greek and always look for good Greek food. Found it! The keftedes (meatballs) were outstanding. The wine list includes Greek wines that you don't often find (love my Retsina). They have a great selection of fresh fish on ice and they will answer any questions you might have. I had a grilled fish called Tsipoura - it was deboned and excellent. My wife had a medium strip steak that was perfectly cooked. The desserts were great too but my Theies (aunts) still edge them out. Recommend the loukoumades and galatoboureka.
Lastly, the place was filled with other Greeks as well so you know the food is noteworthy. Time to bring the Godparents!"

"A group of us went for lunch and ordered a few things to share. Greek salad with only cucumber, tomatoes and feta was fresh and tasty, but $16 seemed too much. Again for a plate of grilled seafood, I expected a bit more variety for $26 than one big leg of octopus, 2 pieces of shrimp and maybe 10 calamari rings."

"You are interest to eat a simple and fresh fish, like a catch of the day almost prepared at the beach, thats the place, unfortunately with noisy corporate groups it is difficult to appreciate but the fish, actually the simplicity of the food ( traditional greek salad, fish and risotto and a greek yogurt) were really good."

"While service was very good, the food was disappointing. Perhaps brunch is not the best way to rate a restaurant and eggs really aren't their strong suit. Three of us got poached eggs and they were all practically hard boiled. One person got the omelet and it was rubbery and not well seasoned. None of the salad greens were dressed. Conversely, if one wants more than one glass of champagne or mimosa, then the brunch special is a good deal - just don't order the egg dishes."

Initially a little anxious about the openess and close seating, only to find the environment conducive to a comfortable private conversation. "I was pretty disappointed on this visit. I've had great meals there but this was not one of them. The tomato soup was tepid and very bland and the lamb in the lamb salad was very dry and tough, with the salad itself drenched in dressing to the point that it was sopping wet."

"Whilst on holiday in D.C., I wanted to take my wife to somewhere both up market, but not too pretentious. Wanting seafood, my web searches brought Kellari Taverna through is a really good spot to go.It was great, excellent appertizers, great ambience and we ordered one of the fresh fish. The best part of the meal was the fact that everything was cooked in a simple style - we really enjoyed the whole meal and would strong recommend it to others"

"We loved the food and the service.The 6 of us were seated at a round table in a quiet part of the restaurant, making it easy to hear one another.The staff were extremely attentive and helpful, offering many suggestions from the menu.I would never have ordered the fried octopus, but the waiter suggested we try it- FANTASTIC! The greek salad, red snapper, risotto, salmon and roasted potatoes were among the dishes we ordered and all were excellent. It's on the pricey side...but worth it for a special occasion"

"The one disturbing thing in any "ethnic" restaurant is when there are no staff of the restaurant's ethnicity to speak to the intricacies of the ethnic food or the alcohol list. We asked to discuss the differences in the ouzos on offer. Our waiter, a white American had no idea about ouzo and said so a bit dismissively. He sent over a latino waiter who told us in his thick latino accent that all ouzos are the same to him. Where is the knowledge of Greek food and drink in this supposed Greek establishment?
The food was fine, the portions very generous and the overall experience was good. But the waiter was a bit uptight and dismissive as if he was irritated. What happened to good wait staff in the US?"

"We went for brunch on sunday. I should have looked closer at the website, because we were under the impression that "unlimited brunch" meant buffet. They mean unlimited mimosa and 1 entree. Nonetheless, it was a good experience. Lamb burger was a good option and so was the salmon. Didn't care too much for the eggplant benedict. They had a live jazz band which was a nice touch."

"The imported fresh fish display on ice was impressive. The sea bass I ordered in a tomato sauce was outstanding. There specialty is seafood Greek style. Some items on menu are a bit pricy and the cost for two people can quickly hit $90 if not careful with selections. A memorable meal over all."

"I went for a special occasion and had a great time! I really enjoyed visiting the fresh seafood display to pick out the fish, which was prepared simply and tasted wonderful. The team of staff were very knowledgeable and attentive the entire night; they even picked up on the fact that it was my boyfriend's birthday and brought a candle in our dessert without my asking. For a truly exceptional dining experience, I highly recommend Kellari Taverna!"

"The food here is the best Greek food we've had in the DC area. That being said, we will not be back. We had 5:30 pm Saturday reservations and the website said valet parking was available after 5 pm. Whether parking is available is often a determining factor in whether we choose to visit a restaurant. The valet was "running late" according to the hostess which meant my husband had to hunt for parking for 15 minutes. The hostess half apologized but this was still annoying. There was an abundance of servers but we had to ask a couple of times to get a wine menu. Service was also very slow, even for DC. Wait staff was too busy talking to each other and checking IPhones to wait on us."

"overall rating based solely on the food, no pun intended. The food was outstanding, the wine selection was very good, but the service was really pitiful for a dinner that neared $300 for two. The young waiter was not knowledgable, helpful and quite honestly just went away after we ordered. Pour your own $100 wine for this guy. We would recommend and would go back but hope to get a good draw on the waitstaff. We did not."

"Really enjoyed this restaurant. Went on for our wedding anniversary. The server gave us complimentary champagne. I enjoyed the dinner fix menu: Kellari Salad which includes Baby Arugula, grilled Halumi(cheese), and Fig Balsamic and for main course I enjoyed Lavraki
Grilled whole Mediterranean Bass with steamed Wild Greens. They have great fresh fish to pick from. For desert we shared a trio of Baklava, Galatoboureko and my favorite Greek Yogurt Sour cherry preserves, wild flower honey and toasted walnuts (in honor of the Cherry Blossoms). They have complimentary Greek cookies at the door (for appetizer or dessert). That is a very special touch! Very nice restaurant, we would eat there again."

"If you love fresh grilled fish, this is the place for you. Appetizers we had spanakopita which was really good, also the beet salad which I loved, however next time I will pass on the cheese with honey and bits of apricot baked because that was pretty dry and missing something. For the main course my husband and I shared a whole grilled snapper. It was simple and delicious. The service was also very good so that made up for anything else that was lacking. This was my second time back and based on that experience, I will definitely be back!"

"The welcome is warm and friendly. The tables are dressed with white cloths and napkins. The service is amiable and helpful without being intrusive. The wine we wanted was not available so they offered one they felt was similar [which was higher priced] at the lower price of the unavailable one - and they apologized for the empty wine bin which was nice. The food was fresh and well prepared. The business lunch is a good value. If you are going for the first time, get fish as they do it very well. The red snapper was superb. And do try some of the Greek specialties. Even if you have not been a fan of one before, you should try the version here. You may well be won over. Kellari is definitely a "cut above" most others."

"I had octopus as an appetizer, it's out of this world! Fish is extremely fresh. They are displayed on ice and you are allowed to pick among them. I had the sea bass. It was grilled simply and tasted so wonderful. I had cheese cake for desert. It was made of greek yogurt - different, very light and delicious. I would love to go back again."
