Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, the first American community west of the Missississippi & rendezvous of Kit Carson & other "Mountain Men". The nine dining rooms, seating 350, are white plastered over adobe. Unusual but hearty dishes, typical of the early West, are provided from open grills. Waugh!

"The service was superb. The staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, personable & without a doubt, gave a 5 star dining experience. The food was quite good. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of choices available, but the price, quality & quantity were comparable. We were sat by the fireplace which made things quite cozy. It was snowing outside the night we went. I would go to the Fort again, but probably not for a full dinner experience."

"This dining experience was to celebrate a birthday and the birthday boy hadn't been to The Fort for 20 years. He was pleasantly surprised with my choice of restaurants. The menu was varied and unique, enough choices for even the fussiest diner. And of course the "buffalo hat" and the "wolf hat" were a hoot!
"The Fort" remains my favorite restaurant for special occasions and to entertain out of town guests. Thanks for keeping it a unique Western experience for all."

"The service and view were spectacular. The appetizers were very good, we had the duck quesadilla and the buffalo empenadas. 2 of our party ordered the mixed plate and it was delicious and the portion was generous. I ordered the buffalo prime rib which appeared to have been cooked on a previous night and heated up. It lacked flavor and was not very tender. I did ask if the rib was cooked that day and was told it was. I would question that. Our service was wonderful."

"Based on price the cost was in the same category as Del Frisco's but the quality of the food exceeded Del Friscos, Add in the fact we didn't have to add vegatables as a side dish increasing the overall price, even better! One of the best steaks ever."

"The hostess tried to seat my husband and I in the back (overflow) room, which does not have the ambiance that the rest of the restaurant has. It is where families with children are seated and it is noisy and hot. They moved us to the main restaurant at our request, but seemed a little hesitant. Then it was very clear that they were trying to push us through our meal quickly due to the high volume of patrons that night. They asked if they could bring the meal while I was still eating my salad. I asked to finish my salad first and they waited, but it was very obvious that they were trying to usher us though our meal as quickly as possible, kind of put a damper on our enjoyment."

"We were there back in the late 70's it was great then but it is fabulous now. The food is incredible, waitstaff attentive but not over bearing. A bit pricey, but if you want an incredible meal in a unique setting this is the place to go."

"We Had A Wonderful Experience @ The Fort. We Brought Our 2 & 5 Year Old & The Old West Atmosphere W/ Entertainment Kept Them From a Meltdown Over 2 Hours. "Only two negatives. 1 Beer selection is paltry and they need draft beer. The breckenridge oatmeal stout was great the boulder extra pale ale is a poor excuse for pale ale and needs to be changed. Also it was too dark inside. One tea candle or float candle. Could barely see my food which is part of what makes a great meal. Food tasted excellent."

"Four of us dined at the Fort and ordered off the Restaurant Week Special 5280 menu. The service was good, but we were all disappointed in the selection of the menu(only two) and were disappointed in the quality of the food. The portions were very skimpy, and the Bison ribs were dry and the quail was overcooked. We will not go back."

"We had a great time. We were early and still seated right away. The server was excellent and the flute player added to the environment. He came in and played a song and told stories. It was very nice. We have a small baby and the hostess sat us in an area perfect for her. The table was rooomy and the fire was delightful.

"When I made the went to the website for the 5280 deal at the Fort, I put in a date that was after the deal was over. I didn't realize it. Nothing warned me that I was not reserving for the 5280 deal. Fortunately, our waiter was able to create a deal for us that was a little higher price, but without dessert. In the end, he did bring us a dessert, which capped off a very nice evening."

"A unique menu experience. We did the 5280 menu and everything was delicious. It included a great tasting bbq sauce on the bison ribs, quail was very tender, bison brochette was good and the extras (breads, potatoes and corn) were wonderful. Overall the service was perfect, and the general feel of The Fort is fun, slightly romantic and fun. I would highly recommend it for the good food and unique atmosphere. Would be awesome to sit outside in the summer and look at the view."

"Although we've eaten at The Fort previously, we went during 5280-Week and the meal was delicious.

We especially enjoyed Kevin Herrera, the Native-American flutist, who circulates amongst the tables playing the most peaceful and soul-enriching music. We bought one of his CDs after dinner, and it will become one of our favorites.

The setting and the ambiance of The Fort make it a perfect place to take flat-land "touristers!""

"The Fort, a Morrison institution, is as good today as it was 20 years ago, maybe even better. The food is well prepared, flavorful and well presented. The wait staff is attentative, yet can miss the mark a bit when the house of full. We were there for a 5280 dinner and they were very busy. Most customers were there for that program...you could tell just by looking at what the kitchen was turning out. A totally unique location. Well done!"

"The food was good, except they have the pass (place the food waits for a food runner) next to the front door. So every time someone came in a cold breeze hit the hot food. Our food was luke warm. "I was not impressed with the 5280 menu. Salad was okay and very very small. It wasn't very many bites. The main course was fair. Nothing spectacular when it comes to taste. The dessert was suppose to be apple cherry cobbler and we got peach. Not sure what happened and there was no explanation. Personally I won't be going back any time soon."

"This was our third trip to the Fort and all times were to celebrate our anniversary. We had another couple who also was celebrating their's as well. We all ordered the 5280 special which includes a three course meal and a $15 dollar bottle of wine. The view from the Fort is fantastic and oversee's the city of Denver. Great meal and great atmosphere. It is an all time favorite staple restaurant amongst Denverites even though it is in the town of Morrison."

"Upon arriving, we were immediately immersed in The Fort atmosphere, with light snow, outdoor fire, and staff dressed in western wear. We arrived at 6:00 pm and were leaving by 6:45 pm. We were not rushed but the service was prompt and very good. Food was outstanding, with buffalo ribs and brochette and quail. Dessert of fruit cobbler was a lovely finish. The price per glass of wine was only $5.00, a good buy. Denver Restaurant Week is a great way for us to dine at some our Colorado's upper end restaurants."

"We went for the 5280 promotion, but ended up ordering off the menu since that sounded better. Had a 6PM Saturday night reservation. Sat in the back room which looks out onto the courtyard - no beautiful view of Denver. Very busy and service was slow for all courses including drinks. The waiter ended up "comping" our desserts and appetizer without having to be asked which was a nice touch. This restaurant mainly specializes in bison, quail and elk meat and those that we ordered were very good. The trout was very tender, flakey and moist and tasted great! The bison sausage wrapped quail egg appetizer with fruity dip was delicious too."

"The bad: Hostess seemed annoyed that we asked for a different table though there were plenty of open tables throughout the evening. It would have been nice to see the 5280 menu to see what we were getting instead of just bringing the food. When I asked to see it, she brought me a regular menu. Server brought our salads overflowing with dressing without giving us an opportunity to choose a different dressing or to have it on the side. The potatoes seemed to be right out of a box served with mixed frozen vegetables.
The good: The quail was very good, the bison good though room temperature, the ribs were good. The building itself is quite unique and the history makes for an interesting tour. Take the time to take one."

"Our dining experience was excellent. The wait staff was attentive, polite and not smothering. The food was great!! Our dinner was not rushed. We were able to linger and finish our drinks and not feel like they we're trying to make room for the next reservation. We drove up from Colorado Springs and the drive was worth it. I would definitely consider a return visit, to celebrate a special occasion. I had read some of the history of The Fort beforehand, had toured Bent's Fort south of La Junta a few years ago and enjoyed the rustic setting with the roaring fireplace to our left and a beautiful view of the outdoor courtyard with the fire pit, looking at the lightly falling snow through the floor to ceiling doors."

"The Fort concentrates on rustic flavors -- and totally succeeds-- as one of Denver's finer restaurants. The salad (with house dressing) was outstanding as was the robust meats and other dishes in this rather busy dining room and noisy patrons (we were seated near the bar). One of the waiters spontaneously commented on my, probably rare, snow mobile gloves. He owns the same pair. It was fun spending a moment with him about this. My wife and I will be back."

"The ambiance of this restaurant was second to none, a perfect little romantic get-away. The food was fantastic, I had the Buffalo Spare Ribs & Quail... The Quail was magnificent. The wait staff was courteous and informative. I would recommend this restaurant to any couples or groups of couples that want good food and a nice atmosphere. "We went to the Fort for restaurant week and tried the 5280 menu. That menu was very limited (two choices), but the food was excellent. The Bison brochette was tender and flavorful and the Bison ribs had a terrific smoked flavor. The marinated mesquite grilled quail was also delicious. We did order a couple of sides, which were a bargain. The Pablono Cheese Grits are worth the trip. We'll definitely return try some regular menu items. It isn't cheap and has a bit of a tourist trap look to it, but the food is very good."

"Employees were very nice and amicable. We ordered only water to drink and they need some sort of filtration system as the water had a very nasty taste. It was snowing so we did not have a great view, but I am sure it would have been beautiful considering the location. There were several fireplaces built in the walls, which gave the room a warm and homey feel. The potatoes, succotash, and quail were amazing. Not a big fan of the Bison, but if you have a taste for it, it is very tender."

"First time; Very interesting ingredients and dishes on the menu. We attended a Denver Restaurant Week and did not waver from the canned menu but wish that we had. My husband wasn't happy with his dish but other than that all of the food was very good."

"Overall very nice. It was delicious and a great place to enjoy a Valentine's dinner. The only downside was I made the reservation last October and when we arrived they placed us at a table with no view. Once I mentioned it to the waitress, they moved us to a better table."

"I heard nothing but good things about The Fort from friends and people I work with. I was excited to go with my wife but it is sad to say that my experience was not a good one. The way everything is set up is really neat with a good atmosphere. My server was very polite and I had no issue with her or her assistant. The food did take a long time to get there which I don't mind waiting but it seemed excessive. I was really disappointed in the food quality and portion size. Salad was very small and didn't taste fresh, my bison ribs were over cooked and chewy, the quale was also slightly over cooked, the side of mashed potatoes seemed like only two table spoons full and didn't have a good taste, veggies were good. My wife was disappointed also."

"We were treated like truly valued guests. The staff is extremely professional and knows how to make a guest feel welcome and comfortable. Our waitress, Lynn, was the best. She was kind and attentive and never left us wishing for more. This was my first experience there after hearing about the place for years. I will return. The food was superb and authentic for the place which represents the early days of pioneer settlement."

"The Fort never fails to be impressive. We live in Santa Fe, NM, but when we go to anywhere near Denver we have to make The Fort one of our stops. The service is always top notch, and the food is prepared to perfection. If you are looking for buffalo, elk, salmon or quail, then you need look no further. We recommend The Fort to all our friends and even strangers on the street. Our most recent server was Christy and she was outstanding - as all the servers have been during our visits. On our last visit our server was Matt, a very charming man. At that time our young daughter spilled her drink and Matt was so wonderful in how he treated our daughter and the situation that it became one of our favorite family stories."

"We have wanted to try this place for years so restaurant week was the perfect incentive. We arrived right on time which was a feat given the weather that night. From the time we entered the restaurant and gave the hostess our name everyone seemed to be on a frantic pace. The second we sat down we had our salad. The moment after we where finish with that, our entree was there. The same thing happened with dessert. The food was good though not all of it was at an appropriate tempurature. My mashed potatos and the apple cobbler where cold which is why I gave the food 3 stars. The quail was very good. We ate a three course meal and they had us out the door in just under an hour."

"Since we had not been to The Fort for many years, we were excited to go. But as it turned out were very disappointed with the food they had for the Restaurant Week. As the choices were limited we had hoped they would at least be something that could appeal to everyone. The four of us decided to try both of the choices and were disappointed with both of them. The ribs were tough and the quail not much better. The other choice was buffalo brioche & also was nothing to write home about. Over all we were extremely disappointed since we thought the Restaurant Week was to show off the food & entice new customers. Sorry but they loose on both fronts. Hope our next pick is better!"

"The servers were overworked, one not very with it waiter and one new busboy for 15 couples, and we were left waiting many times for food, water or a fix for a wobbly table. The oysters while tasty, were overcooked and a little rubbery. The steak was tasteless and mine was about a third solid fat. I have had a better garlic potato from a corner chain. The flatware would not work to pick up tiny overcooked asparagus. For $55 a plate I expected much more and have definitely gotten much more from other restaurants. All in all, I have eaten at The Fort, but I don’t think I will pay to go back."

"I needed a restaurant for our 30th wedding anniversary. The Fort was recommended very highly. I am very glad we picked The Fort. I am a very picky eater and our waitress was actually a step ahead and seemed to know what I would prefer before I told her. She was very kind about all my special requests. "We were in the back house on Valentines Day. They were very busy but seated us within 10 minutes. We are normally in the main part of the forts with the hustle and bustle. The back house was very quiet and peaceful. A wood instrument was played and a story told about the songs which gave it such wonderful ambience. It was snowy and 20 degrees yet the fire pit was flaming and warm in the center of the fort. It was a beautiful experience."

"One reason I love "52.80" is that I get to try new food at a restaurant I wouldn't normally visit. The other times I've been, I've been happy with the limited menu and have still been able to choose something that I would enjoy. However, at The Fort, their only two main course options were quail and buffalo ribs, or quail and buffalo loin. My dining companions said the food was very tasty, however not being a fan of either quail nor buffalo, my main course was wasted. The salad, rolls, and appetizers were all quite tasty - but I wish they would have offered maybe a chicken or pork option for the main course."

"What a lovely night I had at your restaurant. My date and I had so much fun enjoying all of the birthdays and the strolling musician. The food was delicious and our hostess couldn't have been nicer. She even gave us a souvenir picture. I lost my husband last year and needed to find some fun. This night would have been our 22nd year anniversary. I chose a good friend to share it with and we had such a wonderful time. Thanks to your gracious staff, I had a memorable night."

"I have been to the Fort several times but never on Valentines Day. My meal was good however my husband ordered the ribeye and it was by far the worst piece of meat he has ever had. He should of sent it back but didn't want to ruin the romantic moment. We should of ordered from the regular menu and not from the Valentines Day set menu. What a disappointment."

"Our server was very helpful and attentive all night. She also made great recommendations for wines and desserts. The Buffalo Tenderloin Filet Mignon and Elk Chops were very good, but the Trapper's Fruit Sundae was full of some kind of seasoning, maybe cloves, not much of that was eaten."

"Saturday evening was our special dinner as Sunday the 14th was our anniversary and also Valentines Day. I had requested a "low-key" surprise dessert for us when I made our reservation and The Fort did not forget. No hats or singing, just a very special surprise dessert for us both. The food was magnificent. The service was timely and quiet, no hurrying to turn tables, ample time for quiet conversation, and a very competent waitperson who answered every question about the fantastic menu that we had. A very relaxing experience and QUIET! We especially enjoyed seeing the meals ready for serving right next to the entrance, savoring them visually and making ourselves even hungrier! The Fort is in our top 10 restaurant experiences ever."

"The Fort is one of the greatest restaurants in the Denver area. The selection of game is unparalleled. The actual building is a scaled down replica of Bent's fort, so the ambiance is interesting. A lot of the dining areas have fireplaces, so it becomes very "Denver" romantic. The staff is amazing as well. They are very knowledgeable about the food and wine and can help you make a selection. Some of the food on the menu can be daunting, but you should try it! You will be surprised!"

"Food was warm, but not "fresh from the grill" hot. Quality was mostly acceptable, but not up to what you would expect for the price. Salad contained lettuce thick leaf ends starting to brown, spinach leaves still had stems. Service was very attentive, but lacked refinements such as removing the bread crumbs after the salad course. Overall good, but there are better places in Denver for the price."

"Everything was wonderful. Usually one part of the meal lacks something but at the fort, everything from the cocktails to the guacamole appetizer to the potatoes, veggies, salad and main course were perfect. Service was prompt but not obtrusive. The portions are very large so for smaller appetites it's a good idea to split the dinner."

"Everything that came to our table was absolutely amazing! We had buffalo filet and buffalo ribs. The home made honey chipotle dressing was outstanding on the salads and the negrita desert was perfect for chocolate lovers like us! An explosion of 4 chocolates with a noticeable rum flavor. "I don't think the Fort is what it once was. Perhaps it was because we got placed in the side room which has no ambiance, but it just didn't have the spark it once had. The food wasn't quite up to par, the wines by the glass selection was pitiful. Surely with their wine cellar they could find better choices. And hardly any single malt to pick from! I'll be back again I know...if for nothing else for a port by the outdoor fire ring."

"Loved the food and the Fort being all lit up with lights on top of the roof line. Reminded me of Santa Fe, N.M. Buffalo was my favorite. My husband had the buffalo-elk and quail combo. was also excellent. Large wine list. We like the fireplace room, little drafty by the back door in the winter. Mostly for adults trying to have a nice quiet, romantic dinner."

"The food was excellent the quail was a little heavy on the teriaki sauce, the buffalo was seasoned a little too much but otherwise the food and service was excellent and this was a special occasion for my wife and I.

"My husband and I were in Denver for the weekend and were looking for a good place to try Bison meat. We found The Fort online and even though it was almost a 30 minute drive from downtown we decided to give it a try. We were SO glad we did! Everything was outstanding! We started with a Rattlesnake special appetizer. It didn't wow us with any exotic taste but was delicious. The main course was the best! I had the Sampler plate with Bison steak, Elk, and Quail. Each piece was wonderful! My husband had the largest Bison steak and he practically licked his plate! We would have tried desert but were just too full. I would highly recommend The Fort!"
