"I hesitate to effuse since I'd hate for Robert to get "discovered" and make it hard to get into; you already need to reserve 2 or 3 months ahead to get a window seat. But the food, decor and ambiance are consistently great, with -- and this is what makes the big difference -- some of the most considerate, helpful & non-attitudinal waitstaff, hostesses and management you'll ever encounter. I'd say this might be because, being in the same building as a museum and likely to get many out-of-towners, they try to be nice, but that's not necessarily so with the restaurants at other museums. I think it's just a great example of a well-run restaurant that takes seriously the "hospitality" part of "hospitality industry." I go once every month or two"

"the service was pretty bad. For example, my friend and I discussed getting two appetizers and tasting each other's. The waiter said he would tell the kitchen to split. I told him at least 3 times thatwe didn't want that and when they came out they had been split by the kitchen. he was onerall inattentive rhroughtout the meal"

"Robert (on the 9th floor of the Museum of Art & Design in Columbus Circle) has an incredible view of the Circle. I politely requested a window table (for 2) during my recent (Saturday night) experience there and my request was granted - amazing! The food was outstanding - I am not a terribly adventurous eater, but the frisee with citrus salad, agnolotti with edamame and lemon butter, and cheesecake were fabulous and just exotic enough for me. My husband had the duck and loved it.
The service was overall very good - attentive but not intrusive. The decor is fabulous (it is in a design and art museum after all), and the noise never got to the point where we noticed it even though the restaurant was packed.
Definitely a keeper!"

"I took two women who are very important to me here to thank them and they LOVED it! I also put in a request for a window seat only the day before; I was put on the wait list, and when I arrived, the hostess told me a window was available. It was very special that they remembered that!

"Came in solo, waiter assumed that I was waiting for someone to join me and left me for nearly 30 minutes without even asking if he could take my order. Service was slow throughout. Salad with fig and prosciutto was quite good, might have been better if the figs were cooked to be sweeter? Had a shrimp grapefruit risotto - sounded wonderful but just didn't come together. No sign of cilantro and the shrimp were a bit overcooked and rubbery. Gorgeous view overlooking Central Park - be sure to reserve a table by the window. Funky modern art decor in keeping with the museum setting."

"Unbeatable view, very efficient and friendly staff, and great ambiance and inner decor. I felt like this is what so many not-as-good pretentious restaurants TRY to be, but Robert is just what fine dining should be. Slightly small portion size, but this is the kind of place when ambiance and an unmatched view make up for it."

"Went to celebrate a birthday prior to a performance in the area. The service is extremely professional. Nice selection of wines, and when my husband accidentally knocked over his half full glass, the waiter immediately brought him a replacement. The food was very good - and the menu was varied enough to meet our diverse tastes. However, as many reviewers have said, the view is what really sets this place apart. We had a table by the window and had a great time admiring the views of Central Park and the Upper West Side. Our son took plenty of photos to attest to this! Definitely recommend this restaurant."

"I recently took my daughter to NYC (where I went to school) for her 13th Birthday. She wanted a restaurant with a view and this was perfect! There's nothing like this view over Columbus Circle in late afternoon from The sunset makes a magical glow over Central Park and the East Side buildings beyond it. The staff couldn't have been more accomodating. The food was simply great; the service, gracious and perfectly timed. The dessert came with a chocolate inscribed "Happy 13th Brithday.' Elegant, not kitch. Truly an elegant place where you sense not tourism so much as gathering with other New Yorkers for special occasions. Five stars from us! It is by far the most memorable part of our special trip. Thank you Robert staff!"

"The restaurant is wonderful! Great service and what a view from the 9th floor looking out onto Columbus Circle and Central Park. The menu is limited but I still had trouble deciding what I wanted. I finally chose the red snapper with Manila clams in a bouillabaisse sauce and loved every bite. I would definitely recommend for both the ambience and the food and will without question go back."

"We booked a couple of weeks ahead hoping to get a window table, unfortunately we delayed our booking for the evening but were still treated to a second row window table.A warm welcome as we arrived, we were seated and received a very warm and personal treatment from Byron, one of the head waiters, recommended THE perfect wine to fit our food selection - filet mignon and sardines which were excellent. A brief very disappointing unexpected moment of rough delivery by one of the food delivery boys, this surprise was noticed by Byron who, along with the owner of the establishment Robert, expressed their immediate apologies and took extreme care of us for the rest of the evening,making up for it in numerous ways.Overall, the experience was ACE!"

"I visited Robert for lunch, as I have many times, because they have a nice variety of lunch choices at reasonable prices in an outstanding setting . The park/city views are the best I've enjoyed. Local friends like to return every season, out of town and foreign friends find it a special treat. The museum below and gift shop are added perks to a visit!"

"I've been at Robert twice & with family & freinds. The view is really great and attractive especialy for guests at the city. However, the food choices are limited and hoenstly it's not that delicious. I had to order more choices for my freinds so they would find something good to eat.

"We visit NYC once or twice a year and always return to Robert. We love to see the native New Yorker's visiting and enjoying each other. It feels like a "local" gathering place rather than a "tourist" place. The scenic value is immeasurable. the food and service are outstanding. We always feel that our waiter is our friend before we leave. The watercress avacoda soup was "to die for" and the salmon too! Thanks again!!"

"The view remains the draw. The decor still provides a pleasant dining atmosphere. However, the service was extremely slow, unapologetically inattentive, even after we pointed out the trouble. The waiter disappeared for significant lengths of time and the hostess was not help. The food was fine, but nothing to write home about. On my last visit I noticed slower service than my first visit but this time it really marred the experience. Hopefully it can be rectified."

"The restaurant was quite empty even up until we left, certainly by Sunday Brunch standards. We had a reservation & asked if we could sit near a window but were told we had to book at least 3 wks out. So they placed us by the wall despite the open seating that later never filled... Food was good (potatoes a little crunchy). Servers were very nice, but as soon as our order was taken & the food was served that was the last we saw of them... No checking in, no offer of another drink or refill of water, no offer of desert or coffee. We had to get up to get our check. This is obviously the type of establishment that relys on it's location & scenic view. My husband & I regularly eat out & will not be returning here with friends & family."

"Robert is one of the most interesting restaurants in the city. It has an amazing view of Central Park and great food. I highly recommend it for brunch. The lobster benedict is gorgeous, as well as the very creative deserts. The service is impeccable and on Sundays there is live jazz at brunch time. Despite my always high expectations, Robert never disappointed me. It is really a gem!"

"The view is spectacular. We had a table "one-off" from the windows, but we still could capture a great shot of Columbus Circle. The service was quick and efficient. The food was fresh and the menu was simple, but to the point. We ordered yellow-fin appetizers and the duck for a main course. We did not partake, but the variety of cocktails looked good too. We ended with a shared chocolate cake accented with strawberries...excellent."

"What a pleasant surprise. Located above Museum of Arts and Design this lovely gem is a great little treasure. Welcomed with gentle jazz vocalist and a quite and relaxing atmosphere, we found respite from the hussling city. Fresh and delicious, we enjoyed smart salads, delicious soups and a delicate seafood entree. Menu was perfect for a light,late night supper. Recommend it,"

"Went with some colleagues to celebrate our birthdays! Our waiter was extremely accommodating, we brought our own cake and he was nice to hold it for us, cut it, have the pastry chef decorate the plates AND serve them! amazing!
the food is great, dirnks were yummy and the view was amazing! Great experience!"

But they brought us to nice view window seats.

"This quiet and modern restaurant is a great spot to take out of town-ers for a good view of Central Park from the bottom of Columbus Circle. The food is artfully presented and the limited menu is fairly well cooked. The prices are a little high for everyday but the view makes it worth the splurge. The service was casual but perfectly attentive. It's a bright and quiet gem 9 flights up on top of the Museum of Art and Design."

"My family went to Robert for lunch before attending my commencement ceremony down the street at Radio City Music Hall. We were given one of the window seats with a beautiful view of the park. The service was friendly and efficient, and they surprised our table with a graduation dessert at the end of our meal. Overall, a lovely experience."

"If you aren't guaranteed a table by the window, don't bother. I had eaten here several times and the food was very disappointing this visit. Each time I visited, the food has declined. I won't be back."
