At 71 Palm, Chef Didier prepares French American comfort food using the freshest locally farmed ingredients. Located in the historic seaside town of Ventura, guests enjoy casual elegant dining in this Pet friendly charming craftsman's cottage.
"Decided last minute to go to dinner locally. Looked at restaurants on Open Table. Decided on 71 Palm. Had been here before and had a wonderful meal so decided to try it out again. Really glad we did. My husband had 3 appetizers (as he does sometimes): lobster bisque; mussels; and lobster ravioli. All were tasteful, freshly prepared and soon disappeared. My filet mignon with green peppercorn sauce was wonderful - cooked to perfection, really favorable and the sauce had the right consistency. Our waiter was also diligent about my gluten-free diet (I have celiac disease). He was attentive, without being annoying. The atmosphere was very comfortable, a place to enjoy an evening with your spouse, casual French-bistro style."

"Great food in a beautiful old craftsman style house. Reasonably priced for the quality, the Osso Bucco was delicious, and the service was attentive. Good wine list with some affordable bottles too."

"The previous reviews seemed really positive. We sat outside and the table top was sticky, no table cloth. They placed the utensils on the table, not even over a napkin. The utensils and the plates just stuck to the table. Service was slow, they should have planned for a bigger crowd on mother's day to maintain a high quality of service, literally took 30 minutes to get our food. The quality of the food was below average for a "French" restaurant. We've been to many "French" restaurants and there was nothing really "French" about this place. The only nice thing about this place was their building, a historic structure."

"Ordered the fillet steak sandwich...yum!!! It was a great day in Ventura so we sat outside. Had loads of attention from our server. It was much quieter than inside. Would definitely recommend."

"I love to sit down in the main dining room at 71 Palm which is the sitting room of the original Craftsman era home purchased and reno'd by Didier a few years ago. I feel like I'm visiting his French country restaurant. For Mother's Day 7 of us were welcomed and fed from a selection of specials designed to tempt and enjoy. Salads, wonderful starters, great wine, bread. Everyone in our group was having a wonderful time and you could tell that the entire restaurant was filled with happy people. A great place for dinner or lunch any time. (I ordered my favorite lunch menu: roasted beet salad with an Alsatian pizzette on the side.)"

"Went to 71 Palms for Mothers day dinner it was not as busy as we would have thought. Good ambience, service, and wine selection. The ribeye steak was drenched in sauce which overpowered the dish, however; the nutella crepes were very good. I was left questioning the value of the dinner and thought it was a little overpriced. Since the service was so good and the dessert was good we will go back and give them another shot."

"My wife and I always make it a point to go to 71 palm when we are in Ventura. Chef Didier is friendly and welcoming. The food is consistently very good, with generous portions. The service is great and the converted craftsman style house makes for a cool upscale yet casual environment."

"I had a special meeting with someone and chose 71 Palm as my bosses had taken me there previously to celebrate milestones. Very lovely place and the food is always wonderful -well done.
We did have a table inside, but since we needed privacy and quiet, we decided to sit out on the front porch area to dine. We were offered a table by the bar, but again, that would have been lacking. Sitting outside is a great way to dine and the heaters made it more comfortable.
I will be back again and the person I met told me he was not aware of 71 Palm, so he will be back also. Thank you."

"71 Palm is a step into Didier's world, a true French chef who prepares delectable classics as well as locavore specialities. Whether it's onion soup gratinee or seared ahi in a light, delicious sauce, the prep is diligent and the result delightful. Everything is served with friendly but unobtrusive professionalism. Floating Island is on the dessert menu and is my husband's favorite. Husb says that Didier's is better than his Mother's..."

"The food was pretty good but we had to flag down the waitress for service because she didn't come by and ask how we were doing or if the food was prepared correctly."
