"I go there frequently and the food is consistantly very good. The service ranges from efficient indifference to completely aweful. Since this place is very pricey I expect much better service."

"The Flying Fig has a delightful decorating scheme and sets the stage for a fun dinning experience. The salmon special and the seafood brodo were especially good. The seafood brodo was generously filled and included the most delicious scallops. The one disappointment was the service. I am not sure where the problem occurred: server or kitchen. We ordered a warm molten chocolate cake to be shared by 2 of the dinners. We were told that this would take fifteen minutes. Since we had thirty minutes before we had to leave, we ordered. We never did get the dessert."

"Four of us went. Two ordered entrees; two ordered smal plates. The sizes of the small plates were varied; some were too much food (which we did not know and should have been explained to us by the server) so we asked to take home the food we did not eat. Two containers were brought to the table; upon arriving home, we discovered the two containers only contained 2 of the 4 things we wanted to take home. It was a waste of money and food. ( We spent close to $300.) There is a statistic that says 3.5 tons of food are thown out annually. I do not want to be a part of that statistic, which is why I asked to take the food home.
Additionally, we had to ask the server what the specials were, instead of her explaining what they were up front."

"This was our first time to the Fig and we will return for sure. The server was a little cold at first but warmed up as time passed. Meanwhile the water & bread guy and the food runner were very attentive and friendly. The drink menu was ample and interesting and the food menu was filled with wonderfully fresh, spring inspired dishes. It was hard to narrow down our selections. The beet salad is very good, the ample serving of hanger steak delicious. The ricotta gnocchi were light but rich in flavor, a difficult combination. We topped off the meal with chocolate lava cake plated with a side of fig ice cream. It was a great night. We will be back!"

"As always, the food here is sensational. What may seem pricey to some for the portion size, i am a huge supporter of paying more for high quality locally-sourced food. It is how we were meant to eat. In any case, had the Devils on Horseback dates for appetizer which were amazing - only get 3 of them (so dont plan on sharing!). I had a trout special which was absolutely amazing and my husband had the hangar steak - it was SO good. I think we wanted to switch meals :) Got the donuts for dessert which were wonderful. Overall A++"

"The Flying Fig holds great sentimental value for me (it's where my husband proposed), which makes me sorry that I have to give it what is really a mediocre review. For appetizers we had the chorizo-stuffed, bacon-wrapped dates and the tempura green beans. The green beans were the better of the two -- tasty and light, and plentiful. There were only three dates, which seemed low compared to the usual five we've gotten at other restaurants. The stuffing and bacon overwhelmed the date flavor quite a bit. Hubby proclaimed the hangar steak to be "okay". My seafood entree was colorful and plentiful, but the broth was surprisingly bland. Overall it was a very disappointing meal."

"It was our first time at Flying Fig this Sunday for brunch. I was pleased to see they took reservations and even more pleased reservations for two! We walked right in and were taken to a booth, of which we had requested. The place was packed but service was very attentive and welcoming. Josh was our server and he did a wonderful job with a packed section. He even brought a cookie out for my friend for her birthday. We were both very impressed with our meals, cocktails, service, atmosphere - everything! Can't wait to return for dinner."

"It was our first time here. The wait staff was just lovely. Ray was our personal server and his warm smile and genuine demeanor made our fabulous night out even more relaxing. "I took my partner out for our anniversary dinner. It was a Sunday night, the restaurant was not crowded, so it was fairly quiet. I had made arrangements with a local florist to deliver an orchid to the restaurant and it was waiting for us on the table when we arrived. The food is excellent, well prepared with elegant presentation. Eric, our waiter, was outstanding, was always there when we needed something, but never obtrusive and was always friendly and smiling. I would definitely recommend the Flying Fig to my friends for a nice evening out or for that special occassion."

"We love brunch and are always excited to try Saturday brunch when available as it tends to be more convenient than Sunday. Our food was excellent and perfectly prepared. The corn and anduille hotcakes were delicious with a poached egg and breakfast potatoes. The corn beef is house prepared and is flavorful and tender. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food that is served. There are cheaper places out there, but none at this level. Service is prompt but not pushy."

"Of all the restaurants in Cleveland, the Flying Fig is our hands -down favorite. The food is consistently outstanding and creatively prepared. We ordered the shaved root vegetable and beet salads for appetizers. Amazingly delicious. Then the seared halibut special and winter squash for entrees. The halibut was cooked perfectly. The squash dish was quite excellent, too. For dessert we got the molten chocolate cake with fig ice cream and the cinnamon bourbon bread pudding. This place really knows how to do desserts...we ate every bite. In fact, we cleaned our plates with every course served. I know I should better describe the food, but am having trouble putting it into words. How can one describe the pinnacle of yumminess?"

"The food was amazing! Best Smoked turkey sandwich I've ever had! Some amazing fries with great dipping sauce. Service was great! The only problem I ran into was the fact that the kitchen closed at 3pm on Sunday and my reservation was for 2:45. I did not see anywhere on the website about the kitchen closing. Two people from party were set to arrive after 3, so I had to call them and get there order over the phone. I'd still go back again. The food and service were top-notch!"

"We go to the Flying Fig often because we love it. We had a wonderful dinner with friends this past weekend. My beet salad was wonderful, as was my fresh halibut entree. The halibut was so incredibly fresh and extremely well-prepared and perfectly cooked. Our friends had appetizers & sides only. Their calamari was generous & wonderful, & the brussel sprouts with bacon & local honey were wonderful. Our server on this occasion was attentive enough, but rude & rather sarcastic, however, to the point that we almost allowed him to ruin our meal, but I'glad that we didn't. He almost refused to exchange a glass of wine that he had recommended, which after tasting, I found to be unpalatable. Food is always inventive & delicious."

"When to dinner with 3 of my girl friends. We were extemely disappointed in the service. The waiter was not attentive and grouped our check together without asking if we wanted seperate checks. When asked to split them, he sighed and said he could but it would take a while to do such a task. These days, it's rude to assume one check and rude to give attitude to split it.

"My husband and I have enjoyed brunch here a few different times--always fantastic food and service.
We met friends at The Flying Fig on Saturday night as our first time for dinner.
Our reservation was for 8:15, but we arrived a few minutes early, but we were seated immediately as the table was ready.
Knowledgeable wait staff who updated us about a couple of items that were not available that evening along with a couple of specials not on the menu. It is amazing to me when the waiter remembers the menu AND the local farmer who provided the ingredients.
I had the spare rib tagliatelle, which was heavenly. The meat was very tender. The baby onions were tasty.
Very good coffee.
All around everything was well done."

"We have been living in the neighborhood for quite some time, and this was our first time finally making it to the Flying Fig. The food was excellent! I always enjoy a good meal from fresh ingredients, and this was no exception. Each ingredient was treated with care and the meal, while simple, highlighted the flavor of each one. This same care was taken with the cocktails, where the liquor for each one was highlighted by the included ingredients and not masked by them. We will definitely be going back."

"The brunch menu was interesting and tasty. Service was great - helpful but not overbearing. We sat in a cozy booth across from the bar. I had the enchiladas and they were very flavorful and balanced, not too heavy. The only negative was that the music was way too loud, especially for Sunday brunch. Nice atmosphere other than that."

"This place has been famous for years for creative, locally sourced food, and it obviously has lost none of its popularity -- by 5 p.m. on a late winter Friday evening the bar was full of lively young people talking non-stop. (Well, to us most everybody is young.)
It has lost none of its creativity, either, over the years, making it hard to choose from the fascinating menu. Note: Vegetarians (who can accommodate noise) should be as happy as meat-eaters here.
Plus the wait staff was unobtrusively very helpful in getting us through our courses in time to get downtown for a play with plenty of time to spare."

"This was our second visit to the Flying Fig. Everything about the first visit was fantastic. This time, we also brought my colleague from Japan and suggested we try the tempura appetizer. That was a mistake. The tempura was exceptionally greasy and I was a bit embarrassed. The calamari was the same.. greasy. So stay away from those.
Our entrees were good - not exceptional, but still worth coming back for.
The service was very good, friendly, and accommodating."

"Expectations ran high as Zagat gave FF the top score in the Cleveland area (28 out of 30 IIRC). Having eaten at the 2nd and 3rd best Zagat rated in town, it was hard to believe we'd find something as good or better. But sure enough the food at FF is just superb! Between my wife/I we split three appetizers, one salad, and one entree. Their wine-on-tap was also very tasty, and they made a great mixed drink. Service was top notch, attentive, and friendly. Food quality was five out of five, arguably some of the best in Cleveland. Rich, deep flavors, exotic textures, and a sense of local grown and responsibly sourced. Our only complaint is that we didn't get to try more items!! We plan to return soon, for more tasting!"

"Our food was great, however we waiting a long time to be served. Our appetizer (a flatbread) was burnt the first time around so we had to wait for a new one to be prepared. Then we waited another 20 mins to be served our soup. And 20 more mins from finishing soup to beginning dinner. It took 2 hrs 20 mins to be served all of our food on a weds evening. While the food was good, we did not enjoy our lengthy wait. And fortunately we didn't have any event to get to after."
