"We went to The Happy Gnome for the extensive beer list and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food as well. The duck burger was phenomenal, something I'd never had before, and the pizza was some of the best we've ever had. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat!"

"I have had fantastic food here before. Though the food was great this time, the portions were tiny! I had a teeny-tiny salad and a teeny-tiny piece of cheese to share - all very good, just not very filling. Also, the server seemed distracted and wasn't very engaging. I would still recommend the Happy Gnome as a fun place to go if you're looking for something a little different."

"Overall a very good experience. The food was decent, the tartare and the burger were amazing, but the poutine was not what we expected. There was a herb that over powered the whole dish and that's all you could taste. Not very good. The service was good, however a bit on the slow side. I am guessing she had tables in another section other than the bar, or at least I hope so. I would definitely recommend this place, and have."

"Needed a place for lunch and went to OpenTable to find me something new. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our lunchtime meal. I had the chicken sandwich and he had the rueben. His remarks were: "Now THIS is the Rueben I've been waiting to taste!". He loved it! I loved the flavorful chicken complimented by three cheeses, bacon, avocado and a spicy aioli sauce.
The beer menu is extensive and awesome and has something for everyone. We both love dark beer - I tried the New Holland Dragon's Milk and he tried the Left Hand Milk Stout. Both yummy. His was creamy and mine had bite. Perfect!"

"I have been going to the Happy Gnome for years, they have an excellent beer selection, great patio, great staff, I love the bar. I usually only go there to meet up with friends for a couple beers, this time we had dinner - I had the veg pizza and Brussel sprouts w/bacon- neither were good. I would not order either again. "We greatly enjoyed our brunch. We started with an "appetizer" of housemade bacon (amazing) while we waited for our friends. The Bloody Mary bar alone could have been breakfast but we did order entrees. My 'vegetarian' eggs rancheros benedict were SO delicious! Everyone was happy with their meals and the service as well. I highly recommend for brunch! And they gave me a free dessert (not that I really had room for it) for my birthday :)"

"I had 2 friends come in for a visit. The staff was appropriately attentive, not hovering, but always available. Our waitress did an excellent job, both putting up with 3 jokers out for an evening of enjoyment, but also with beer recommendations. "The food was good, but not worthy of being one of the best in the city. I read that the restaurant is one of the top places to go, but I didn't feel like it should be given that title as I didn't feel like the food was worthy of such a high regard. It was average. It was a great place though. I loved the atmosphere. Parking was hard, but that's St. Paul for you. It took a long time to get our table and we had a reservation also."

"Overall excellent experience. The only criticism is the lighting upstairs where we ate. It was so dark, we could barely read the menu. We four had to get our iPhones out and use the light to read the menu. Other than that, great night, and excellent food."

"We had another great meal at The Happy Gnome! Whenever we eat here, we tend to just order small plates to share. The PEI mussels were tasty, and the Surly short ribs were perfectly done. We decided to throw calorie-caution to the wind and order the lobster mac and cheese. There were plenty of lobster pieces throughout, not to mention the welcome addition of asparagus within the dish, and micro greens on top! This seemingly small portion was very rich, flavorful, and filling! We had our wedding reception here in 2011, and upon each return trip, we remember why!"

"This was our first visit to The Happy Gnome, and our entire group was happy with their beer selection and food. The game burger was excellent, as was the panacotta and creme brulee for dessert. The beer list is so lengthy, anyone can find something that exactly suits their taste. Our server was fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly, and stopped by at just the right times. We will definitely be back!"

"My husband and I went to the Happy Gnome for the first time for his birthday. On OpenTable I requested a quiet table and we were seated upstairs at a cozy spot by the fire. It was dimly lit with candles, great ambiance. We enjoyed a premium beer flight and tasted some great beers- the selection was extensive and well categorized. My husband had a wedge salad and duck burger and raved about it. I had beet risotto- so delicious. The portions were generous and the price seemed right on for food of that caliber. Our server was friendly and attentive and but didn't hover. We went at 5pm and the downstairs was already packed but the upstairs was quiet with only a few tables occupied. A lovely night and I would recommend the Happy Gnome to anyone."

"We knew they had an excellent craft beer selection, but the food offerings were also very good. Beautifully presented cheese plate, unique burger meats and combinations, scallops, lamb chops... all were very good. It was moderately loud... enough that occasionally holding conversation among the six of us was less than ideal... vibrant but not annoying. Our server was outstanding, taking the time to explain various dishes, offering tastes of unique beers, etc. One of our favorites after only two visits."

"A fabulous step above your traditional pub. Great, unique beer list, with really knowledgable bartenders and serveres. I had a beet and goat cheese risotto, which was creamy but not too heavy (and such a very fun purple!). Almost as delicious as my standard "juicy lucy" vegetable sandwich. The guys had burgers- one a traditional, and one with bison. Both raved about them!"
