Aperto sets aside certain tables for walk-ins, if you do not see an available time for your reservation, please call the restaurant directly. Aperto is a small neighborhood Italian restaurant right in the heart of San Francisco's Potrero Hill. We are dedicated to serving the best seasonal, local and organic products that we can find and we feature Fulton Valley Poultry, organic pork & lamb, local and wild caught fish. We take great pride in our food our service and our wines. Our menu changes with the season and we also offer great daily specials on our blackboard. We offer over 16 wines by the glass, as well as full and half bottle selections of domestic and Italian varietals. During the warmer times of the year we have an outside seating area where you can soak up the sun and take in the beautiful views of the city.
"As always, the meal was wonderful. I usually get the fish special when I go there, this time was no exception. The chef here really knows how to put out a good piece of fish. Than being said, my dinner partner had the chicken,.....as did many others that night as I looked around the restaurant === must admit, that will be my next choice!"

"Nothing pretentious;what you see is what you get. Just a very good local spot where you can find good Italian standards as well as some unusual specials like delicious soft shell crabs. The standard Caesar salad was especially good although wine section was quite limited and the 'pour' was very small."

"Although there was a problem with our OpenTable reservation, Aperto was very accommodating and was able to get us a table in little time. Everyone at Aperto is nice and the food was excellent. We had the gulf scampi for starters with the featured wine. Followed with the lamb sausage Conchiglie and the Salmon special. Everything came out fresh, hot, and delicious. I will definitely be coming back."

"We love Aperto, but haven't been there for a few years. Went for dinner early on a Friday night. Salmon special was good to very good. Side of vegetables ragu not varied, legume top heavy and the mussels were tough, mixed with clams that were tiny and tasteless. Broth was too heavy and too spicy overwhelming what taste there was with the shell fish.
It's noisy and charming, need more salad selections and we'll go again, of course."

"Happy that we got a reservation on a Saturday night. They called ahead to remind me the booking. Grandma, baby, and I arrived just on time, while husband went out for parking. We waited as the host told us that we cannot be seated until entire party arrived. Finally sitting down, she asked if we want tap or sparkling, but only followed with another server asking the same. We ordered a small starter(best out of all, but salty), snow pea side, special beef (dry), wild mushroom pasta (no fresh herb), and duck. It felt disorganized that three different servers came by. Not sure if it's intentional, at the end of the night, the waiter/bus boy just slam the plastic bill container on top of the table as if he is doubling down..."

"As a local, this is one of our favourite restaurants...it's not as much of a secret anymore though! With delicious food that is reliably good from visit to visit, and a nice seasonal menu, Aperto is a good restaurant to know about. Service can be a bit spotty, and it's sometimes hard to catch the eye of a server if you need water or coffee, but the place is made to sit and chill out, have a good meal, hang with friends, or look across the table at the one you love. A favourite of ours for Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve; it's just lucky for us we don't need to find parking, as the area has exploded in popularity due to the dot.com influx (which is not a improvement to the area)."

"We have been customers of Aperto for many years and had always look forward to enjoying lunches, brunches, and dinners here. However, we had the worst experience when we lunched there yesterday. Although the wait person did her job of correctly taking our order and bringing us our food, she seem bored with her job, was distant, and performed her duties mechanically. The food was a disappointment. I had the smoked salmon panini - it was on the bland side, something I could have put together at home myself, overpriced. My husband had the tagliolini repati. Although the flavor was fine, the pasta was drowned in its sauce. We had the apple tart for dessert - the crust was hard and the apples were bland. No plans to return anytime soon."

"The staff were friendly enough, but they seemed really put out when we asked to be moved because there was a wind directly blowing on us from the open door and fan combined. There was just no way we could have sat through that and enjoyed our dinner. And isn't that the important thing? Lots of frowns after that from the staff. The food was pretty good, however, the Ceasar salad is one of those "lazy salads" as my son likes to say, where you get the leaves whole and have to slice them yourself."

"Wonderful as always. Fava bean bruschetta so yummy! House specialty tagliattini superb. Fettucine great. Shared a desert. Staff always knowledgable about the food and the wine and very attentive without hovering. One of our favorite places! It's tiny though so reservations are a good idea altho' there is a window bar that is usually available for walk-ins/singles. There was a slight entree difficulty at the table next to us that was handled quickly and graciously, so that table was very pleased."

"Aperto has been my favorite restaurant since the early 1990s. Gotta get my tagliolini peppati! I reserved the whole place for a graduation party in 1996 and friends still remember it."

"I don't think I've ever had a more stressful dinner. Part of it was the table, right in front of the door. People came in and stood in front of us; they were seated and, because the door doesn't shut, the wind howled through. The waiters kept bumping the back of my chair as they passed. The dark haired hostess raced around, almost running, around the place. You could hear everything said at the next table; the people are almost in your laps. To top it off, 3 really annoying children--clearly from the neighborhood, since they left their scooters outside--ran in and out repeatedly, waving big green sticks. I know you can't blame a restaurant for the guests' actions, but all of it together...aaaaaaa. go somewhere else."

"I have been to the restaurant many times for dinner and love alot of their dishes especially the Tagiolini pepati, but never for brunch. So after many reviews I decided to try it. We ordered the duck hash, the frittata and the pancake. My duck was dry without much favor, the pancake was nothing special, and the frittata was best out of the lot and that was so-so. I really wanted to like it, but it just didn't happen. We came out of there feeling so unsatisified and actually kind of queasy. Also the waitress who was serving us was substandard. She didn't tell us there were specials and we didn't see it until 10 minutes after we ordered so it was too late. She also took forever clearing our table. We sat for over 15 minutes waiting."

"The pasta was DELICIOUS. But everything else that we got - the lamb, the appetizers, the chocolate souffle, were bland and overcooked. And the wine was not good, at all. At their prices, I expected much more."

"I think that this is a good neighborhood restaurant that is trying to do good food. All of our dishes were off the mark just a touch. Caesar salad was good and not overdressed. Pea sformata was rather bland and tasteless. I think the chef was relying on the cheese to add the punch and some salt to the dish but it was still flat. The arctic char was adequately prepared but just average. The pastas were good but again, the flavors were rather bland and dull. Berry crumble was flavorful but the chocolate crumble was lost in the tart sweetness of the mixed berries. Again, a good idea that just did not come together. Fresh ingredients and friendly waitstaff but am not sure that we will return again."

"We needed a a Portero Hill area restaurant and of course the well established Aperto popped up. After many years of not eating there, that essential ingredient of a neighborhood gem is to have a warm, friendly atmosphere that shines the second you step through the door; oh yeah, it was still there! Service is very personable and professional. Straight onto the food; We opened with the Polenta Sformato, Wild Mushroom Ragu, recieved 5 stars from all of us at the table. Clearly their Tagliolini ‘Pepati‘, Garlic, Smoked Bacon, Jalapeno, and, Grana Cheeses is a highlight. As we shared bites, we all wanted to go back to the tagliolini."

"We have been Aperto fans for over 20 years. It has been a "neighborhood gem" in the past. The last visit was deeply disappointing. We can only assume it has changed ownership or something else has happened to so significantly change the experience we had. The menu is the same but the staff has changed, and seems unpolished. The food is still mostly "good," but some of the former finesse is missing.
Most absent was the former welcome and geniality. We were interrupted, multiple times, with a prompt to order, though we were clearly still considering the menu. The pouring of wine/change of plates/cutlery was done from one position(and w/in easy biting distance as the reach spanned across the table). Etc. It's dropped the gem."

"Food is good, not terribly creative. Service was not great.Waitperson kept forgetting things and seemed impatient with us, even though we were ready to order long before she got back to us. I've been to dinner here many times, but this was the first brunch. I'm not in a hurry to go back. Brunch needs some updating."

"Sweet spot for a brunch, though space is quite small and tables crammed together. I had the Enchilada special which was delicious. My friend had the beef rib egg entree which was not as impressive. Great flavors, just too skimpy on the meat. Mini muffins served when we sat down was a nice gesture but they were cold and served w/o butter. Presentation may have been better. All things considered, I'm glad I had the chance to try this restaurant on a Groupon.
Service was Fantastic!"

"A favourite neighborhood spot for us; we've been many times. I particularly like the chicken livers; smooth, delicious, and a hearty serving for two. Dinner was the roasted chicken and the tagiliatelle pasta; love the way they roast the chicken with lemon, and the perfect companion to it was the small roasted potatoes. A good selection of wines, but the Lambrusco recommended by the waiter was a bad choice, which didn't enhance the meal. Attentive and nice service go a long way here, as the kitchen sometimes gets backed up a bit since it's small."

"We like this place because they keep the menu small and spend time getting the food right.
The service on the other hand can be hit or miss. We've had some great service in the past but this past experience it seemed like the entire staff was stretched thin."
