"I have been to Alexander's steakhouse a few times already. In fact, I make it a habit to go there every time I visit the bay area. It's quite pricey, service may be somewhat slow, and the place is noisy, but all that does not really matter since the food is out this world! It is simply outstanding. Each and every item on the menu is well thought out, prepared to perfection, and beautifully presented. Don't forego the first courses, and grab one of their streaks for your main course. You won't refer it!"

"The tomahawk chop was superb. The steaks are tender and cooked perfectly to instruction. It lives up to its 1-star rating. The hamachi shooter is a great starter. If there is room to improve, I would like to see some variety in the appetizer list with a bit more seasonal styled selections. The wine list is superb. Thank you for a great time."

"We decided to try the most expensive ($140 for 3oz) Wagyu steaks, and they literally melted in our mouths. Great food and decent service. The hamachi shots weren't the freshest (a little fishy, compared to the best Japanese restaurants) though."

"I took my 86 year old mother and 2 of my daughters to an early Mother's Day treat. We were greeted by friendly staff. When our server asked us what we were celebrating, he responded by giving us complimentary sparkling wine. We were then told all about the meats, which was quite interesting, but my 86 year old mother was just ready to eat some prime rib. We were happy with the way they divided up the soups to those of us who didn't order any. we were surprised with the cotton candy that accompanied our dessert. Topping off our cappuccino with a frothy heart. What a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Mom loved it so much, she was telling her friends the meal cost $100 more than it really did. Oh mom!"

"I wanted to eat here for some time. When I checked the menu online one specific item caught my attention - the tomahawk. The first time I had a tomahawk was the last year the day after Christmas. Before my favorite cut of steak was the porterhouse but when I ate tomahawk it became my favorite cut of steak. The tomahawk was how I imagined it has - extremely favorable and tender. Normally I have my steak rare but steaks that are bone-in, such as t-bone, porterhouse, or tomahawk, I order them medium rare. This phrase is overused but it definitely applies to the tomahawk at Alexander's: "this tasted like butter." I was so stuffed at Alexander's that I wasn't able to finish it. As Adam Richman stated on Man vs. Food, "This time food won.""

"I couldn't have reserved a better table for my two year anniversary. The service was great, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was romantic, yet vibrant at the same time. A must for any special occasion! This was my second visit, and will be back again for another great evening. I recommend the Tomahawk Chop, Idaho baked potato, wedge salad, and 24 Karats for dessert."

"Alexander's Steakhouse exceeded our expectations in every way. The decor was elegant, the service was impeccable, and the food was amazingly good. We both had steaks. I chose a rib eye, and he chose one of the more expensive 3 ounce gourmet steaks, and we were both very happy. The creamed spinach and the asparagus were perfectly done. Every dish had something special about it, be it minced mushrooms, crab, or their amazing steak sauce, and we definitely enjoyed it. Dessert was also remarkable, special dishes that we never see elsewhere, or at least, not in such a wonderful presentation. I think you'll find this restaurant to be a good value for the money you spend, and the service will leave you feeling totally pampered."

"We had heard that Alexander's was a top of the line place catering to the expense-account crowd and wanted to try it. On arrival we noticed that a large majority of the staff and customers both were Asian, something that seemed odd only because I expected a more diverse cast and crew.
The food was okay but not great and certainly not what we expected. My t-bone was a little under-done in places, overdone in others, and not worth $50+. The seating was a little uncomfortable and it was quite noisy. The little goofy palate-cleansers just seemed pretentious. Great spinach and asparagus, however. We were not impressed with the wine or my wife's "new-fashioned.""

"We had never been here before, but several family members & friends had dined here for years and raved about the great food and service. They also advised that it was a bit pricey because of their extended steak menu. So we planned our 45th anniversary dinner here hoping that it would be as enjoyable as our people had said it would be. Alexanders did not disappoint--in fact my wife and I agreed that it was the best dinner either of us remembered having. And not just the food, which was supurb, but the attentive service also. The service people were so nice too, taking time to answer any questions we had and making excellent suggestions when we needed help making up our minds. Already planning a return trip with our adult grandaughter."

"We have been to Alexander's SV for several special occasions. Our experience has always been special.
On two of our visits, we had an issue with an entree. Each time, the staff and manager handled the situation with aplomb and grace, fixing the problem and making a great impression. Kudos to Alexander's staff for making our experience great each time.
The food was very, very good. The ambiance was perfect, and we could chat intimately over our long meal. Our two year-old was treated as a special diner, and it was obvious that the staff has been trained in handling families with small children.
We felt special, had a very long and very enjoyable experience, and headed home, looking forward to our next visit. What more could you want?"

"My wife and I came here for the first time last Saturday after hearing rave reviews by many friends and family. We both ordered the aged strip steak. I ordered medium rare and my wife ordered medium well. They delivered the steaks and seemed to make sure the right steak went to the right person. Mine was cooked than I requested. I didn't want to complain and ruin my experience. It turns out my wife did the same as she choked down a steak that was even more rare than medium rare. In short, we got the wrong steaks and they were not even prepared to our requests even if we would have been given the correct dishes. I told the waiter at the end of the night and he sort of feigned concern and did nothing. Not the best experience."

"Thought the waiter did a great job explaining the menu with recommendations and also was aware we were on a time crunch due to flight reservations and acted accordingly. Bread service was sporadic, had to request a waiter to send some over and then again when we wanted more ended up having to request. Expected this to be automatic and even conveyed to the bread server to keep us in mind as we would be expecting more.

Had the 10oz fillet, with side dishes of crimini mushrooms (excellent), and quinoa pilaf.
The meat was absolutely outstanding quality - I've tasted better steaks (ie. this was not the perfect flavour), but the freshness and texture was unsurpassable.
Dessert was a butterscotch crème brûlée, with brioche crostini & cashew butter, and a tiny slice of fig... tasty but not memorable.

"Had high expectations for this place as everyone that I talked to spoke highly of this restaurant. My medium well porterhouse was unevenly cooked (very well done outside and rare towards center and same with the wife's ribeye. Price and portions were fairly good considering it is a michelin rated restaurant. If you enjoy frequently eating great tasting steak and don't care about ambience, going out, etc, then just order a Weber genesis grill, buy some NY or ribeye steaks at your local supermarket, marinate it using a popular steak marinade online (that include a little bit of soy sauce, ketchup, worchester sauce) and I guarantee much better tasting steak (regardless of price). What I am saying is I'm no chef, but I can cook better steak."

"The food is very good however, based on the reviews and prices, I have to admit I expected a little more. We were directed to the waiting area when we arrived 10 minutes before our reservation. We sat at a large table near the fireplace where a couple was being waited on. The server didn't even acknowledge us or the other couple waiting as he walked by us to/from the bar. Once seated it took a very long time to get our food after we ordered. The waiter was very apologetic however, and brought us some soup. They have a very extensive wine list but, of course, the Chilean bottle of wine I selected was no longer offered (I had the one wine list they forgot to replace.)The Sommelier's suggested alternative was excellent albeit more expensive."

"I was disappointed by the level of difficulty I had in getting a waiter's attention when there were so many of them walking all over the restaurant. I raised my hand repeatedly and called out for many of them (they brought out the bone marrow but we had no bread to eat it with) yet it took about 4 minutes and 6 or 7 attempts at signaling attention until we finally flagged someone down and I was LITERALLY waving my arm and almost yelling "excuse me!" I suppose I could have gotten up to find someone, but there were so many people walking by us constantly that I didn't think that would be necessary.
I will say however that out waiter was great--he was just absent for a bit and in that span of time we had major difficulty getting help."

"The place looks fantastic, but the food was not consistently good. Service was very slow initially, but the workers are very attentive otherwise. I had by far the best steak I have ever had in my life, but the side dishes were very, very disappointing. The mac and cheese was too greasy so the flavor was just fatty rather than creamy. The spinach was not good, maybe had a little too much going on. The Wagyu beef is highly highly highly recommended. The other steaks are just good, not particularly outstanding (although anything would pale in comparison to the Wagyu). The appetizers, soup and salad were delicious, so I would recommend getting more of those than any side dishes. But for $350, it was a let down for the two of us."

"My husband and I went to Alexanders for the first time, thinking that the steaks would be outstanding since the prices are very high. We were very disappointed. The rib-eye was very tough and no taste to it. It came with no vegetables or potato or anything...just meat for almost 60.00! The prime rib was very overcooked and again came with nothing on the plate but the meat... For the prices they charge, vegetables and rice or potato of some sort should come with the meal... The only nice thing about Alexanders are the servers and atmosphere... I would suggest to the management of this fine dining restaurant to first... not charge $10.00 valet parking when you arrive (that should be complimentary)& serve side orders with the steak."

"I usually love going to Alexander's Steakhouse but this was the worst experience I had this time. I brought my sister their for her birthday and she asked the waiter Lamp Chops or Prime Rib. He said Prime Rib was the best. She asked for Medium Rare and they gave her Medium well. They over cooked their Prime Rib that day. I went their for lunch because I can't afford their dinner menu. The waiter was pushing for dinner meal which cost double. I was embarrassed not to order the dinner menu. I told the waiter I would save half my meal for my husband because I am saving my appetite for dessert. I am upset because I realize the next day that he threw away my Prawn that I asked for left overs to be taken home that I paid $80.00."

"Super attentive and informative staff. Our waiter in particular, Josh, was professional but also very personable without being imposing. That's hard to come by. Food was delicious; some classics with a unique spin (ie white truffle fries) and some brand new flavors and textures that were really fun to experience! Im not a huge seafood fan so some of the fancy starters weren't my favorite, but still interesting to try. Also, Im now won over to medium cooked meat. I had my filet mignon cooked medium well but had a bite of my husband's medium cooked Kobe beef, and WOW! Night and day difference! Now don't get me,started on the desserts! Those deserve a page all to themselves! Absolute perfection all around!"

"As always, Alexanders offers something for everyone. While we saw families with small children, there were also tables of generational families, as well as the young 'good looking' set. Alas, we were of the romantic persuasion ourselves. My husband has Alzheimers and we usually spend our wedding anniversary at Alexanders, Table 5 to be exact, so this is especially memorable, as who knows how many are left.
Service is Spot On and extremely knowledgable, a MUST for someone like me! Hats off to you all . Loooove the tenderness of the filet, and where did you get that hugh prawn for the Surf ' Turf. Succulent! Thsnk you, Freddie-Jo Soto"

It was my father's birthday and they brought out a great dessert for him. The only issue I have is that it is really expensive. "Going to eat at Alwxander's Steakhouse was an amazing experience.
The hostess were very energetic right when we step through the door to greet and seat us. The servers and waiters were very attentive and nice. Couldn't ask for better service. Actually great to talk to and the waiter, John/Johnny, sounds like he knows what he's talking about when it comes to Alexander's foods. He was great.
The food was amazing. I ordered a Filet Mignon and it was one of the beat I have ever tasted. It was a good amount as well.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who knows how to eat a steak and knows good service!"

"The food was a mix of amazing and ho hum. The bone marrow was amazing - perfect blend of flavors. The Caeser salad looked interesting, but tasted ok. The hamachi shooters were delicious. The rib eye steak was also delicious, but the lamb was nothing special. The creamed spinach was perfect, as were the truffle fries. The carrot cake was deconstructed (not expected) and not good.
Service was excellent. You could be pretentious if you wanted, or joke around with the staff and have a good time, which we did. The bartender comped my champagne at the bar when he found out it was my birthday, a pleasant surprise. The extensive wine list has some amazing values, if you know what to look for. The staff made our evening memorable."

"We had higher expectations. The starter hamachi shooters were nice but lacked salt and acid - 3, which is weak given the A+ ingredient. Salad was fresh and a 4. Viniagrette was again shy of salt. Main course - sable fish for my friend and tbone for me - were a shame, given the fine ingredients. The fish skin was soggy and the meat under seasoned. The steak was not seared so the nonspecific sauce rendered the dish a bit soggy. Again a 3, which is criminal with a $56 price tag. Sommelier was nice and knowledgable as to the brunello we had. The waiter was horrible and did not appear to have any awareness of or ability to control his affect or complete lack of a sense of humor."

"The entire process and experience at this restaurant was seamless and amazing! Booking the appointment on OpenTable was highly convenient, on site parking was a breeze and warmly greeted and seated promptly was great! We were delighted to get Kitty as our server and could not recommend her enough for anyone attending this establishment. She was almost more than 50% of the experience and most definitely left a lasting impression on us. She was personable, warm and exuded passion for what she does. The only neg I can recall is the Bread server not looking as enthused. The food we had was great! The filet mignon and split-bone ribeye were cooked to our liking. Very flavorful and tender! Most definitely on our top list of steaks that we've had."

"had a 7:45 reservation and arrived at 7:00 to get a drink at the bar. the bar was packed like sardines with diners. took us 15 minutes to get someone to take our drink order, by which time, we had decided to just be seated early. then of course, we were drinking coctails with our apps and had to make up for some lost time. once seated, every aspect of the food and service was excellent.
in my opinion, bars are for drinking. if alexanders wants to patronize walk-ins, then designate one of the many rooms, or just a portion of the bar, for walk-ins. i like to have a relaxed drink before sitting down and there isn't another place nearby if dining at this venue (versus going out in palo alto, or similar)."

"Came here to celebrate my Father's 80th Birthday. On my open table reservation, I asked them to take note and do something special in recognition of this milestone. They presented us with a glass of complementary rose champagne. Also, before dessert they brought out a plate with Happy Birthday written on it along with a candle in a pastry. So I was pleased with all of that. Excellent food with adequate description. Portions are also appropriate, not on either end of the spectrum."

"We had a really lovely birthday dinner this past weekend. The food was beautifully prepared and presented and the service was attentive, hospitable and helpful, without being overbearing. This was an expensive dinner, but well worth it. Other high-end steak houses in Silicon Valley sometimes fall into a rushed, assembly line kind of service--but that has never been the case for us at Alexander's. I can't wait for the next special occasion to make our next visit."
