"I took my son and his wife there for his 30th birthday. I requested menus with no price listings knowing that it would be expensive and not wanting prices to influence our choices. The dinner was wonderful, a meal to be remembered. I would highly recommend the Alexander Experience. You can't go wrong with any of the steaks, but the sample of three would be my suggestion. I knew going into the evening that it was going to be expensive and it was. This was by far the most expensive meal I have ever had, or probably ever will again. I consoled myself with the thought "would I rather have the money in the bank when I die, or having spent it on my son's 30th birthday." It was a night none of us will forget... or repeat."

"My boyfriend and I and the couple celebrating their anniversary next to us all agreed that we had all had the hands-down best meal of our lives. Excellent food all the way around. The mashed potatoes where to die for as was the mac and cheese with truffle oil. Spring mix vegetable medley was prepared to perfection. Our server's name was Cathleen Z. She was very friendly and put us at ease and explained everything without being condescending. All of the wait staff were very friendly and you could tell they were passionate about the food and what they do. We had a fantastic evening and agreed thoroughly that it was well worth the price. We were actually surprised at how low our check was for what we had experienced!"

"The food was beautiful. We enjoyed their lovely cheese selection and the amuse bouche and intermezzo were delightful. Some items, like the shrimp, were very over-salted, while my steak was under-seasoned. The steaks were cooked very nicely though. Service was brilliant and the wine list is very good. Dessert was not a strong point. The profiteroles were soggy/stale and the chocolate was not as intense as the menu suggested. We would have been better just sticking with the cotton candy."

"Alexander's is our go to place for beef, however on this visit I have to comment on some of the accompaniments. One of my favorite appetizers is the roasted fois gras; no matter how the chef prepares it, it is always excellent. This time it was perfectly highlighted by a golden raisin concoction. Soups are always excellent regardless of whether they are a special menu creation by the chef or the soup of the day by one of his staff. My husband had a big smile on his face as he consumed the soup of the day, tomato blue cheese. I normally prefer asparagus simply prepared but the kitchen astounded me with a marvelous crab meat and hollandaise sauce."

"Service for entrees (prime rib and steaks) was extremely slow. A fairly simple meal for 3 persons took 3 hours. Cauliflower soup was imaginative but cool, not hot. Kobe beef was over priced. Filet mignon had gristle."

"The food was amazing, as usual, but I was extremely disappointed with the service. My drink didn't come until just before our meals arrived (we had ordered 5 appetizers and 2 salads so there was plenty of time to bring my drink). The server never checked back to see how the food was. She failed to preset the silverware for our steaks as well as our desserts. It took about 20 minutes for her to come by so we could order dessert. We waited over a half hour for our check before we got up to ask another server for it. Someone other than our server ran our credit card. I expected better service, especially since we spent $1300 on dinner for 4 people."

"First time at Alexander's and we were told ahead of time that it was expensive...final damage was $275 for two people including cocktails. The hamachi shots were the highlight of the meal and I highly recommend you try it. I had the short rib, which was fantastic, and my husband had the filet + lobster. The filet was overdone and the lobster was cooked with a rice mixture that overpowered the lobster. The side dishes were mediocre. The wait staff puts in the effort but they are young and inexperienced so it came off as insecure and uncomfortable. They need to relax just a bit as it seemed impersonal. All in all it was nice but not $275 nice."

"This last was my second time at Alexander's. The food was excellent and the service was okay without being great for a couple of reasons:

- They are almost too attentive. It might be a cultural thing but I am not used to being interrupted every minute with "is everything okay?" type of questions. You might be having a deep conversation and when you are interrupted every minute for everything this becomes extremely annoying.

- I invited my parents and brother for dinner and my brother brought one $60 bottle of wine that has characteristics of a $100 one. Apparently this was a reason for making fun of us as my dad noticed that our waiter and another one looked at the empty bottle and smiled in a way that showed that we were being made f"

"I have never had such a great service at a restaurant before. First was the greeter. She knew exactly where we need to go when I told her that I had a reservation at 8:30pm. Then comes our server Cathleen. Very professional and generous. She gave us enough time to look at the menu, willingly explained everything on the menu when we told her it was our first time dining at the restaurant.

Because I noted that I will be proposing, Cathleen and her crew actually made it really special for us. She actually gave asked me what to write on this special dish. I told her that I wanted to have " I 'heart' you " written. And she made that happen. She left the important words for me to say =).

Food were the best i've ever tasted. A+++"

"It was my 2nd time at this restaurant.They've changed the menu from last time(6mos ago) and alot of the goodies were gone but was replaces with some good ones,will be nice to have the seared scallop on the menu again.Rack lamb we ordered was excellent (abt to get 2nd),however the 2 steaks was abit over cooked (we ordered the 2lbs ribeyes & 10ozs filet mignon).We let our server know and they immediatly prepare a replacement filet mignon (Perfect!)and ask if they can offer us the prime rib instead of the ribeye (ribeye takes 45mins),so we took it n it was perfect.The dinner was wonderful and the manager picked up the tab of the 2 steaks + dessert. Was kinda surprised but really apprecaite the wonderful service they provide.Sure will be back!!"

"This restaurant is pricey, but it makes for a wonderful treat every now and then (more often if you can afford it). The food is superb (the french fries are amazing) and the setting is great. They're very formal about the overall dining experience, but no formal dress is required to dine here. I definitely recommend Alexander's to anyone looking for a nice restaurant for a special occasion, or just a little splurge."

"Alexander's does a great job with steaks and the service is top notch. It is not La Pappion good, but it is very good.

The wine list is out of touch with more $500 bottles of wine than $70 bottles. Similar are the $150 steaks. Really there is still a major recession in the Silicon Valley."

"We went to Alexander's with a gift card given to my husband. This was the first beef we've eaten in several years. We ordered the hamachi shots which we tasty and great for an opener. We also shared the wedge salad, which was tasty - the blue cheese dressing was a bit thick and rich. My small prime rib was delicious, but I cut off a lot of fat. My husband ordered the NY steak with the brandy peppercorn sauce. We also had the side of green beans which were tasty and perfectly cooked with bacon.
All in all, the food tasted very good and our dinner was a special treat. We are used to eating 'healthy heart' meals, and don't use much salt at all and avoid saturated fats, so we were overwhelmed by the saltiness and the fat content."

"Ate at Alexander's on Fri, Feb 12. The date is of note because they were in the midst of perhaps their busiest weekend of the year. They had brought in rented tables to increase capacity for Valentine's Weekend, so a word to the wise - the usual awesome ambiance is taken down a couple of notches on this weekend. Everything else was terrific, as usual, and it was nice to see the Uni Fried Rice has made it on to the regular menu."

"They have a few signature items that are worth trying:

1) Begin at the bar with their Huckleberry Mojito. I know that they have a name for this, but it is a tart and minty drink that is really a nice way to get started...
2) I think their Hamachi shots are the best of their starters. Order a 6-pack and enjoy the combination of flavors;
3) This place does beef better than anybody else in the Bay Area. I am a huge fan of their prime rib. I think it is fantastic. If you don't like prime rib, every other steak I have tried there is amazing. The filet mignon topped with seared foie gras is delicious.

Lastly, I think there is a nice treat at the end when they bring out cotton candy. They rotate flavors, but it is a nice treat.

"My husband and I went to Alexander's for our Valentine's Day dinner. It was our first time there and we were thoroughly pleased. Everyone was very friendly from the moment we walked in. "Hamachi shots were excellent as usual; however had a bit more ponzu sauce than usual. The prime rib was suberb--terrific marbeling, wonderful melt in your mouth flavor and taste. The creamy horse-radish was a nice blend of creamy and pungent contrast; however was not as strong as I prefer. The waiter had some freshly grated and brought to the table along with a prepared version of horse-radish. The brussel sprouts were tasty witht he gnochi, though slightly salty. Shinto peppers were very good. The sugar and spice pot de creme was tasty, creamy, aromatic ending to a wonderful meal."

"Service was impeccable and the food was excellent. The dry aged new york strip and pan seared hamachi had our taste buds dancing. The popcorn crab appetizer was a very delicious and a generous portion. The ginger panna cotta for dessert was fantastic! Our head waiter was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with our food and wine selection. The evironment was a bit sterile and cold so it was not the most romantic. The ambiance was not that welcoming either. However, our head waiter and the rest of the staff made up for that. We loved the banana cotton candy that closed up our night. Great meal and experience!"

"We've been to Alexander's plenty of times and each time was a pleasant dinning experiences. The food always tastes great, especially the steaks. Hand’s down, Alexander’s has the best in town, better than Morton’s and Forbe’s combined. And also, the servers were polite and never judgmental of our appearances. However, the restaurant hostess weren't as hospitable as we would like them to be but the amazing steak is what brings us back for more…"

"I loved my experience here. I was a bit ambivalent upon arrival, given the seemingly stuffy atmosphere. However, our server perked right up and became quite personable as the night progressed. It's all about the small touches at Alexander's Steakhouse- the cotton candy, the food explanations, the cookie goody bags, the birthday plates. It's really a wonderful experience, and I hope to return soon. They also make excellent drinks (complete with a resident mixologist). My only disappointment came with the sides (truffle mac and cheese, brussel sprouts). The mac and cheese was a bit too gooey and oily for my taste. It could have used some breadcrumbs and less oil. But, even this didn't break the experience. The ribeye is phenomenal."

"Service was great in the beginning. Our waiter was very attentive and our appetizers came out very quick. However, between our appetizers and main course we waited a very long time. On top of that, when we did get our food, it was warm, luke warm. Putting a dent in your wallet for a warm steak isn't what I had planned for. All in all, I was pretty disappointed. Had our food come on time and had our food been HOT it would have been a totally different experience."

"Decided to take my date here for a very special weekend evening, The first thing you notice upon entering the premises are all of the wine storage assemblies, and then the different cuts of meat (especially the Japanese regional meats) - a very impressive display of inventory. Our server was very informative, creative and energetic. Of course we tipped her well after the dinner for her exceptional service and attention. The food was fantastic, from the soups to the entree and the samplers in-between (we have not had a restaurant offer such interesting culinary experiments in-between courses!). The conclusion came with the irresistible o2 chocolate lover's dream and the mouth-watering cotton candy. Definitely an experience to remember!"

"Alexander's is my favorite restaurant in the south bay. Because of their great food and even better service, we tend to lose track of time. We've been here twice in the last few months with two sets of really good friends and had our dining experience last 3-4 hours. The servers pace our meal very well and provide very helpful advice about the meal, proportions and suggestions.

We live in the east bay and dine out often but there are few restaurants that can compare with the food, ambiance and wait staff. This is not an inexpensive restaurant but we always find it well worth it. We highly recommend this restaurant."

"We really liked the place. Food was awesome. I don't usually order beef but figured "when in Rome". Server took very good care of us - she explained the menu well. Truffled foie gras appetizer was decadent and I really liked my trio of filet, shortrib & carpaccio. Husband's NY steak was great. Restaurant is definitely pricey but portions are large for the most part - you know you're getting a 28-oz steak because it says so on the menu. The only things that kept this from being a perfect evening were the small children whose parents let them run loose, and the shriekming infant. Parents, please mind your children or leave them at home! It spoils the night for guests who want a fine dining experience, not a freakin' nursery."

"Both the food and service at Alexander's was 5 star. At the time of the reservation they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and commented on it when we checked in. They also provided a complimentary glass of champagne and special anniversary dessert to commemorate the occasion. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the wine list was one of the most extensive I had seen. The one area for improvement was the mark up on the wine. I completely understand the 100% - 200% mark up on the wines, but in many cases I noticed a 400% mark up on the wines. Our wine bill nearly doubled the food bill, but it was still an experience we will not soon forget."

"I had a great time with my bf in there, the food is really fantastic. Especially, the Hamachi shot, you really need to put all the stuff everything in your mouth at the same time. Taste little bit spicy and very fresh. On the other hand, we order the seal scallop with truffle sauce. Taste sweet..and delicious. Also, we order the Filer Mignon, the Filer Mignon is really tender. Besides, the interior design is really outstanding there. And I really love the O2 dessert. This O'2 mixed with 5 different chocolates...with raspberry sauce and malted ice-cream. It's really Awesome,I think this is an art form! Beside,it was my bf birthday, they gave us a small chocolate cake and cotton candy. I felt happy that to celebrated my bf birthday in there."

"If you want the best steak, head for Alexander's in Cupertino. This is one of the finest steakhouses in the world, and I have to say that the 2 lb bone-in ribeye was the best I ever had. All the other food, seared scallops, oysters, truffle oil french fries, were consistent with the quality of the steak, with original presentations and flavors. Even the chocolate sphere dessert was a delight. But I would prefer the traditional horseradish and red sauce to accompany the oysters. The service is impeccable. The restaurant is just wonderful if you love to eat steak. But it's expensive. But you get what you pay for! The only thing I would eliminate from the restaurant is the silly cotton candy. Leave cotton candy for amusement parks!"

"My husband took my daughter and i there for me Birthday Celebration.
They went out of their way in a very tasteful manner to help me celebrate. (No-one sang, thank you very much)
They started with a wonderful Champagne for all of us. They brought a beuatiful little dessert with a personal brithday wish written on the plate.
What topped it for us was one of the partners came over and introduced himself and then took us on a tour of his kitchen. We were able to compliment the head chef and other partner personally and receive an education on aged beef and the digfferent types they served. WONDERFUL experience. Too pricy for us to go every week, but deffinitly a couple times a year."

"One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Our Reservation was for 7 pm. We arrived a little early and had to wait until 7 to be seated right on time. My Slow cooked Prime Rib was prepared to perfection. Service was outstanding but without being over done. Price was decent for a high end Steak House. As this was our first time, and a special occasion they did a little extra that enhanced our dining experience. I will be back."

"Another spectacular experience at Alexander's. The meal began with the usual delicious bread basket, clarified butter and chives. Also, a glass of Azalea Springs. It was followed by the wedge salad with blue cheese and candied bacon (whoa, why don't they sell those morsels like that at the store!). The Garrotxa cheese with Pineapple Chutney was next (they were out of the Lamb Chooper!), but this is an amazing cheese too! After this came our main course. I had the Dry Aged T-Bone (delicious) and my wife had the Prime Rib (also medium rare). Wow! This was the best Prime Rib I've ever had! We also had the Crimini mushrooms (always a hit) and the risotto (better the next day). Overall. SPLENDID. My only problem was the server."

"Excellent experience. The appetizers, wine list, and service were all top notch! Ironically, the steak was the disappointment of the night. The steak wasn't bad, but it wasn't as outstanding as everything else. In fact, for being a dry-aged porterhouse, it wasn't as flavorful as I would expect. The sauces used to pair with the steak were good, but was not sufficient to make up for the meat's deficiency. Huge generous portion of the roasted foie gras!!!"

"We love Alexander's Steakhouse. The steaks are phenomenal. Melt in your mouth. The Mac & Cheese is to die for. I'm normally not a mac & cheese kind of person, but it's So Good! We also had the spinach side, and that was yummy as well. The Popcorn Crab was yummy. Came with a Sriracha aioli which made the dish! The menu said tempura battered, but I don't think it was. Nonetheless, we enjoyed it. Delicious amuse bouche! For dessert, we had the O2, which was okay. Nothing great. Coffee was good. Service was wonderful. We went to dinner for my husband's birthday, and they treated us great. Our waitress brought us champagne and French pink lemonade (husband wasn't drinking), and also a piece of birthday cake."

What we had: cream broccoli soup, lobster dumplings, foi gras terrine, 10oz filet, short ribs, prime rib, mashed taters, green beans

Pros: good food, steaks cooked perfectly, special dessert congratulating us on pregnancy

Cons: very dated decor, inconsistent service, very loud, long wait between courses, short ribs were overly fatty, overly expensive

Overall, it was a good experience, but there are much better places in the area for fine dining. If you do come to Alexander's, focus on the steaks, as that is what they are good at."

"Alexanders a is Royal Gift for common Folk. Service was impeccable, but the food took center stage. If you have never tried Japanese Beef, you have got to do it once in your life and this is where to do it. We were spoiled from the first coarse to The Cotton Candy Finale. If you want to make an impression on your important other half, this is the place."

"The food and the ambience was great. Although it was a romantic restaurant, we were there because it was my wife's birthday. I notified them ahead of time of the occasion, and we were treated to complimentary glasses of champagne and cake. The waiter was very nice and there was no pressure when we declined dessert (the 1 lb potato did me in)."

"My friends and I thought the steak was phenomenal but the side dishes (for that price) were below average. Also one of my friends (from Boston) had the Lobster and she didn't enjoy it at all. "The atmosphere is outstanding. It differs from other steakhouses as the diners and staff are not pretentious and stuck-up. OuR waiter, Sean (?) was extremely friendly and funny. He took the time to explain various items on the menu and was very excited to do so as well! Excellent! The roasted Foie Gra was THE BEST- rich and creamy; simply the best. The Mac-n-cheese w/ truffle aioli was good- a little too oily and buttery for me, but definitely can taste the truffle oil. We got the porterhouse- excellent (nothing can top the Foie Gras though!). The Apricot Souffle- TOO SWEET- there were still cruncy sugar bits in the souffle that did not melt through. I would not recommend it. OVERALL WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE, DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK!!!"

"service was attentive but uneven. we were seated and waited 10 minutes before menus were brought to the table. we had not dined at Alexanders before and let the server know this when she asked, but she did not tell us we were ordering too much food (we couldn't finish the sides of crimini mushrooms and creamed spinach and could have left those off the order had we known.). at the end of our meal rather than being asked if we would like a desert menu, we were presented with cotton candy and the check. Can't recall the last time a restaurant has done that. Overall the food was very good and we will be back. Hopefully things will be a bit smoother next time."

"I was disappointed with Alexander's Steakhouse. We are big steakhouse frequenters and found Alexander's to be pricey, but not great. We don't mind paying a lot of money for great food, but this was just average. We ordered Ribeyes which were huge and flavorful, but very fatty. My husband ordered a Porterhouse which was also quite large, though not very tender. The service was excellent though and the ambiance is lovely."

"One of the top Steak houses in the South Bay. Excellent Wine and Cigar List. One of the few places where you get a great selection of Kobe(Wagyu) Beef.

Recommend reservations. We were seated immediately when the whole party arrived. Since I was holding a drink, they asked to transfer the bar tab over. I said yes, but I had to remind them again at the end of meal that I had an open tab at the bar. For appetizer, we ordered the Hamachi shots and Japanese Kobe beef Strip ($185)- Excellent for both. I had Rib-Eye with bone-in, two others ordered Prime Rib and the fourth- NY Strip. My Rib-Eye was great(rare), but too much sauce. Service substract a star as we sat at 8:30 and was served our steak at 10pm. What a wait. Meal Total:$700"

"My wife and I celebrated our 6 year anniv.
We started with lamb ribs in honey & lavender glaze - absolutely delicious; the meat fell off the bone, the flavour was incredible. Followed it with fillet steak in red onion jam, crushed potatoes, and maple glazed squash, which my wife described as "this isn't a vegetable, it's a dessert!!". We ended with a panne cotta and honey sabayon dessert - also excellent. Between each course, our extremely good waitress offered tasters. All in all, an excellent meal experience. The only thing that could have improved was that there was an extremely loud party in a room next door, and frequently the patrons or service staff left that door open so the extreme raucousness leaked into the main dining area."

"Alexander's continues to serve great steaks with interesting preparations, starters and salads, but service has become inconsistent. They appear to require a mandatory 10-minute wait in the lounge before you are seated (meaning we've always had to wait, even when there are plenty of tables), but on 12/15/2009 we were ignored by the bartender for that whole period. Our server took a long time to appear to take orders, and main courses arrived long after those of two other parties who had arrived after us. There were a number of large groups in the house that night, and I'm guessing that parties of two suffer when the kitchen gets slammed by a dozen orders from a group table."

"This was our first time here after living just down the street. We were celebrating my husband's birthday that night and were very pleasantly surprised by Alexander's. First and foremost I must say how great Francois, our waiter, is. Highly knowledgable in the food they serve there. He educated us on the preparations of the menu items and gave us suggestions. He really made the experience just wonderful. i ordered the dry aged ny and when it came out it was huge and cooked to med rare perfection! I am a dry aged lover now. The souffle we ordered was also higher than I thought it would be when it came out. So to conclude our night it was more than what we expected. Absolutly the best service in town. Thank you so much Francois!"

"WOW, is all I can say. I have been here before, but this was a just plain old a great steak. I had the bone-in New York. My wife said it was the best steak she had ever had (note: she has had far fewer great steaks than I). She had the filet. They had a risotto side which was to die for. I started with an oxtail mushroom soup. Yum! We skipped desert because nothing more would fit. Expensive, but fabulous. Well worth it. Everyone kept asking us if we were going for a special occasion. Now I understand why they asked. We just went because we wanted to. We will go again and again. My wife wanted to go back next weekend, but then we could not buy any Christmas gifts! Maybe it is worth disapointing the kids."

"We came here for my husband's birthday, we did have to wait a little to be seated even though we had a reservation, the waiting room was nice and cozy.
we were seated and greeted by the waitress (by the way was wonderful), the food was fantastic!!! the steak was made perfectly.... everything was excellent. They even surprised my husband with a decorated cake and candle :) overall it was perfect, a night to remember."

"My Steak was over cooked and had no flavor, and this is there specialty. We were seated next to the prep kitchen, too loud. Our server had an Asian accent and most of my party couldn’t understand a word she said. The only thing that was good was the side dishes. The overall whole experience was a major let down for the cost. I won’t be returning, too many restaurants in the Bay Area to return to one that can't cook a steak properly."

"I took my 9-year old son to celebrate a couple big events (including his upcoming birthday this week), and we had a splendid evening. Our waiter paid special attention to my son which made the experience even more enjoyable. The pacing of the service was perfect, as we never felt rushed from one course to the next. Each entree came out at the right temperature.The birthday dessert was simply a masterpiece! Thanks for making a special celebration exactly that - special!!"

"Alexander's steaks are awesome. I have never been disappointed with their food. What's even great is their service. The dinner was for my birthday, and they gave us (me and my friend) nice glasses of champagne and brought us a really cute birthday cake, which had melted chocolate letters "Happy birthday". It was so sweet. Our waitress was amazing. She was so kind and took great care of us. I have to say their service is one of the best among the restaurants in the Bay."

"The food was excellent and the service top-notch. Our server was professional, yet very approacheable. The steaks were large, and very well cooked. I look forward to having a meal here again, although it will certainly be coupled w/ a speacial occasion. For the money, we left feeling very satisfied."

"Without a doubt this was my last trip to Alexander's after many excellent customer dinners and special occasion celebrations over the past several years. We have noticed the quality of the food has declined and our server ruined our experience for the second time in a row (the same waiter on both occasions). We arrived at 6pm and we were essentially abandoned by our waiter with long intermissions between appetizers, entrées and desert. The patrons next to us with a different server arrived almost an hour later and were served their meal and long departed before we could manage to locate our waiter for the check which included a glass of wine we did not order."

"I felt that Alexanders was a bit overrated, my third time here and was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but found it still fell short. I felt rushed after every meal where they were trying to take my plate away. They were to box my left overs but they did not give them to me in the end so I had left without them. Knowledge of their food was exceptional but I felt the lighting of the dining area was too dark where I couldn't see my food an was forced to spit out the fatty pieces of my steak. Overall I don't think I will be coming back since it was my third time over the past two years and nothing has seemed to change."

"Great menu! Had drinks and appetizers, no huge steaks! The house margarita was wonderful! The appetizers were amazing. Wonderful place for a special occasion or not. You can't miss with the menu. Would definitely come here again. The pink cotton candy that was gifted to us at the end of the meal was an unexpected, sweet treat! It seemed a bit out of place, but we enjoyed it."

"Food was very good and not too costly. But you could easily drop a ton of money on some of their specialty entrees. Excellent wine list but generally pricey. A little noisy - like a mid-western place - but did not bother us.
