"I can't remember the last time I was so impressed with traditional Mexican cuisine. However, the menu offers some unique selections, like the goat cheese tamales, that you really must try. I can see how some people might think it's overrated, but I say those people have no clue what they're supposed to be getting. We can't wait to go back!"

"Went to Red O the night before Cinco De Mayo with my boyfriend to enjoy some of Rick Bayless' famous food. My boyfriend is Mexican and has always loved how Bayless has honored many of the traditional dishes as well as added some fun, modern touches. We got some drinks at the bar while waiting for our table (arrived a bit early so we could do so) and when we sat down, we were happy to sit in the same spot we had been in a year or so ago for our anniversary.
The drinks were incredible, tasty as well as doing their job, and the food was incredibly tasty and filling. We had the ceviche trio - a must! - and I tried out the short rib enchiladas while my boyfriend tried a slow-cooked pork dish. All in all a great meal!!"

"I was really looking forward to dining here and chose to do so for my birthday; perhaps my expectations were too high. Our meal took a very long time coming to us; after a long wait our waiter came over to let us know things were backed up due to a couple of large parties. To the restaurant's credit they gave us more chips and guacamole on the house, that was something at least. We ordered 4 entrees, two of which were way too salty to finish, and I'm not sure about the other two; I wondered if the kitchen was in such a hurry that they way over-seasoned. We ordered dessert - the churros were excellent, the Mexican chocolate torta was fine and the accompanying ice cream was great, the flan lacked flavor. Overall, I was pretty disappointed."

"Great service. Food and drinks designed for a very specific palate in mind, not very authentic. I was actually expecting cheese on my queso fundido. Despite this, the Woodland Mushroom cazuela was very tasty. I guess this is an interpretation of the concept of a quesadilla in DF. The trio ceviche sampling was also good. The Alacrán margarita was not as hot as advertised.
A failed attempt to combine a street food menu in a high scale restaurant. This helps to explain the high price for the pollo en mole poblano. Great menu conception, just not the proper execution."

"When Red O first opened it was great with intensly flavored Mexican inspired dishes. Unfortunately, the quality is out the window. The food was bland requiring good amounts of salt and pouring over salsa wherever we could find it. Perhaps the chef has changed. Food service staff was excellent but management not. The open to the sky patio room was uncomfortable cold and breezy at 7:30. We were told that they would close the roof but when they didn't they said that the owner was about to come and he likes the roof open!!!
The policy of bringing your own wine (corcage $25)of allowing 2 bottles per table is OK for small tables but not for tables of any size! Too expensive for what it is."

"As other reviewers have said, this restaurant is expensive for mexican food. The food, however, is generally very good, our service was great and the atmosphere is fun, especially for out of town guests or groups. the mole is only okay, and we enjoyed the enchiladas with the verde sauce more. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, and the tuna ceviches were delicious. The desserts, especially the apple crumble, were excellent as well. Finally, the spicy margaritas are worth gong to Red O on there own."

"Went to Sunday brunch with my siblings to celebrate a birthday. It was our first time there. The ambience and decor is excellent. Service was first rate. Waiters and staff are young, professional, and down to earth. We did not tell the waitress it was my sister's birthday but she picked up on it and brought dessert out with a candle. Food was fresh but nothing spectacular. It is Mexican and we are in LA so of course there's better for much less."

"We have been to Frontera Grill in Chicago, and could not wait to visit Red O. I am happy to say that we had a perfect experience. Every person we encountered was attentive, helpful, and courteous. We arrived about 10 minutes prior to our 6pm reservation, hoping to sit early due to the 8pm show we had scheduled at the Pantages. We waited at the bar and began to sample the tasty drinks; our favorite was the La Dama, with pomegranate. We were seated as soon as the restaurant opened by the excellent server. The food was delicious and well presented. My only suggestion is to lighten up on the Chipotle. I can only take so much, yet it was in 3 of the 4 dishes we ordered."

"The decor is like being on an exquisite tropical island: two-story ceiling with creamy long shear drapes and beautiful patio furniture. The food is every bit as great as the decor. Amazing Mexican gourmet food. Can accommodate vegans. Wonderful service. They have a hallway with lighted glass containing liquor bottles that leads to their lively bar. I dined there twice last week and was happy both times."

"Good service, nice scene. Only let down was the food! For being a 'celebrity chef restaurant', you think that the food would be a little more creative ...and better seasoned. Flavorless guacamole (I prefer my own version better!), bland chicken tacos, and boring margaritas. The margaritas sound nice, but we tried two -- they tasted the same, and I'd prefer the cheap ones from a local dive bar better! $100 lunch ...food flavor not worth the price!"

"Our first impression was very favorable as the ambience was very inviting and fun. The margarita selection was amazing. We tried the Market, Dama, and Topolo. The Market was the best with a refreshing vibe. As for the food, I have a very mixed review. So, what was good/amazing: the trio cheviche, the sweet tamale, and the desserts (churros and chocolate torta); What was OK: queso fundido and the casuela of short rib; what was bad: the asada steak (very dry and tasteless). Overall, it was a very fun experience with OK/good food. Next time I would probably just go for drinks and appetizers/tapas."

"Best in Los Angeles for high end Mexican cuisine. Rick Bayliss started slow with Red O, it just wasn't great in the beginning. NOW, however, one of the best restaurants in L.A.
Try the yellowtail ceviche, tinga or carnitas, and the goat cheese cheesecake is incredible.

"Red O is delicious upscale Mexican by Top Chef alum, Rick Baylass. His salsas are amazing. I love the insanely spicy habonaro salsa. The mole sauce is rich and spicy. So good! Their spicy margarita, the Alcaran is fantastic too!"

"I was overall very disappointed in the meal. I dine out frequently and enjoy experiences that are unique. The food was okay but not worth the additional cost for an enchilada or taco. The guacamole could be made anywhere. There was no aha moment to the experience which I expect for $100.00 per person. We would rather go to the great hole in wall Mexican restaurants that offer the same experience for 3/4 of the price all over LA."
