Situated in Old Montreal and steps away from the Old Port, this French restaurant established in 1932 makes you feel like you’re at sea savoring the most delicious treasures of the blue waters of the river and ocean. Specializing in fish and seafood, Chez Delmo serves a delicious meal with fresh ingredients. At Chez Delmo, you can choose from a large variety of fish: Dover sole, salmon, cod, sea-bass, halibut, and many more prepared the French way. This means being served in delicious sauces and delicate spices that bring out the fish’s natural flavors without masking them. You may also opt for scallops, shrimp and lobster. Chez Delmo also offers an à la carte dinner and lunch menu. The restaurant's is large and open-aired with a granite bar, the color of which perfectly matches the off-white walls. The mood is very bright thanks to large windows which bathe the high-ceilings of the dining room with light and which offer a beautiful view of the charming Old Montreal atmosphere.

"We have been Delmo customers since the late 1960’s
The new owners have kept most of items that were on the menu at the old Delmo.
The entree of Oysters was a very good choice. The salmon was cooked to perfection; the fries are still as good as ever. Desert also very good, although I miss the Pelat Genevois .

"I had the snow crab salad and it was delicious. We were a group and decided to share entrees. The grilled octopus was a little bit chewy (disappointed with that one) but the salmon carpacio was delicious. Service was very good. It was a quiet night. Can't wait for the summer to go back and enjoy the oysters in season. One of my favourite seafood restaurants in town. Can't beat the freshness!!"

"I recently took some colleagues to dinner at Chez Delmo.
The food was excellent - perfectly prepared.
Our waiter was very helpful and attentive when the restaurant was pretty empty. Unfortunately, we were forgotten once the majority of tables were filled.
Regardless, the waiter was extremely nice, and that one small glitch in a wonderful evening would not stop me from returning.
If you like fresh fish and seafood perfectly prepared, this is the place to come."

"Lives up to its famous reputation. My time at this restaurant will be unforgettable.
Even though the restaurant was full, the service was very professional, relaxed and helpful. The greatest thing about the evening was the excellent meal: fresh seafood cooked to perfection.
We finished the night at the bar where a few regulars were watching the hockey game with the owners.
A beautiful experience all around.

"Fresh seafood, doesn't come cheap but when prepared right is unbeatable and this restaurant serves it perfectly. We tried the halibut and the walleye and both were terrific, I thought the wine was reasonably priced so overall a very good value. Also the mural is stunning."

"The food was pretty good (seafood), but the service completely destroyed the experience. That and the fact that the main dishes are apparently just served with "fries, rice or mash". I had to ask for vegetables."

"I decided to write about Delmo's again, because the staff made me feel at home even though i am not one of their many regular customers who have been going there of decades. They remembered me and made me feel great. The staff is terrific and very welcoming. This time we tried the halibut - flown in fresh from Norway, top quality and impeccably done- and lobter newburg -over 2.5 pounds!- For starters salmon tartare and grilled octopus, both perfect. Truly a wonderful restaurant, and i am becoming a fan."

"The food was very mediocre at best. The grilled octopus was terrible and tasteless. The halibut was ok but not to the quality of the price charged. The service way very good at first but disappeared once we complained about the grilled octopus. The owner/manager was very accommodating as we left to remove the item from our bill. I would not go back or recommend this restaurant."

"This is my favorite seafood restaurant in Montreal. Great seafood and excellent service. This place is great for travellers because whenever i am in Montreal i can sit at the bar at Chez Delmo and always have someone to talk to if i want, with Chris the bartender or one of the regulars. i had octopus and seafood pasta, both were delicious. "I was there for St Valentines day, and the food was really good. We went with the regular menu, so I can't say how was the St Valentines menu but from the regular menu the fried octopus entree and sole main course plate were very delicious. Keep some space for that mille-feuille cake because it hits the spot, not too creamy and not too sugary. I highly suggest it."

"Great food, excellent service. The place is packed with regulars who sit at the bar and talk to the owner. I was impressed with all the attention to details (they have dental floss distributors in the washrooms!) I tried octopus for starters and halibut provencale for main, perfectly done. This is not a cheap place but is worth every penny if you know your food. I will definitely go back and recommend."

"It was my second time in 4 months at Delmo and everything was fabulous. The one greivance I would say is the deserts are somewhat overpriced we did not get a menu for them and ordered anyways. "Simply marvellous. We went on Valentines Day with another couple. The prepared table d'hôte was delightful and designed not to be too heavy. Despite being very busy, the staff were remarkably efficient and were able to get to everyone without a wait. I ended up going with the seafood salad to start with a perfect dover sole as a main. I would argue that this is the best seafood in Montreal."

"Went to Chez Delmo for Valentine on a whim. They found a nice table for me, even though i booked late. I waited at the bar 5 minutes so i decided to try the famous cocktails. Delicious and fun. I looked around, the place was completely full yet the service very efficient.
They had an optional valentine menu and a la carte. We tried both. My husband tried the lobster bisque (absolutely amazing) and grilled cod. I had the special menu (lobster wellington). Everything was perfect. The fish is fresh and everything is top quality. Will go back and highly recommend this great restaurant!"

"Took 10 minutes to get our table, hanging around the bar not so bad. Had my eye on Chilean Sea Bass but alas the waiter advised that I had just missed out... at 8:30PM already out!!! Not a happy camper. Had the salmon tartare which was passable but not outstanding. Overall disappointed in the experience. Not sure there will be a next time...."

"The Valentine's day menu was very great.
I ate oister's soup and lobster (both were delicious).
My girlfriend took Bayonne ham (not very tasty but I use to ate it at Bayonne and I don't think the one I use to eat is exported).

"i have lived in Old Montreal for over 25 years, and i have been going to Delmo's for that long. I can honestly say that this current version of Delmo is the best by far. Service, value, decor..everything is there. i read some comment on the price of the cheese plate, and i am thinking let's compare other Old Montreal spots : at Le Local, the cheese is $5 for 30g. At Bocata, the cheese is $12 for 60g. At Delmo's, a cheese plate is $11.75 for 90g. Who is ridiculous? We love you Delmo, keep up the great work! You are the best seafood restaurant on Montreal, and we love your generous portions of food."

"Great service , friendly atmosphere. Nice ambiance, for those who do not appreciate music blaring at the guests, this place is just perfect. The food is outstanding! very fresh and perfectly done. Highly recommend. We started with cocktails at the bar (thanks Chris!) and then sat at a lovely window table"

"We were three women on a girls weekend, just looking for a good restaurant in Old Montreal area. Chez Delmo was perfect. The ambiance was quiet and comfortable, although it was not very busy. The food was delicious, we all had fish or seafood and our waiter was attentive."
