Welcome to "Friend Of A Farmer"...made of warmth & wood. Carrie and Terry built, designed and carefully put together this cozy, country cafe. They wanted to bring back that warm country feeling, reminiscent of Terry's upbringing in a small farming town in upstate New York. The warm fireplaces, homey atmosphere, as well as all the home cooked, fresh food creates a wonderful blend. Breads, muffins, pastries & pies are baked in our own kitchen, using the freshest fruits & vegetables of the season. Please enjoy Breakfest, Brunch, Lunch & Dinner.
"A lovely place in a lovely neighborhood. Rustic and cute old house with a upstairs, downstairs and outdoor seating. They start you off with a big square of corn bread with homemade apple sauce. We had a piping hot chicken pot pie with a lattice top and a chicken club sandwich on thick fresh baked honey wheat bread. We also had an all crab crab cake - delicious! We were stuffed and relaxed!"

"This is a nice comfortable restaurant, but the food should be more consistent. Some of our dishes were quite good, others not--the fried chicken was overcooked, with a flavor of burnt oil. And I don't get the cornbread smothered in chunky apple butter sweet enough to be dessert served instead of bread. The staff is great, and very accommodating, but the kitchen needs some work."

"This was my first visit to Friend of a Farmer. I was hosting a business lunch and was a bit disappointed overall. The concept and the food are fantastic. However, the tables upstairs are close together making it difficult to have a business discussion. Our server was more attentive to conversations with her co-workers than to servicing our table. Last, while I appreciate the "farm home" furniture, our chairs were uncomfortable and wobbly. I would go back but not to host a business lunch."

"This restaurant for MANY years has consistently been wonderful. Fresh foods, great specials and one of the few places that does all meals perfectly. The homey atmosphere is a throwback and it is comforting to be in an established neighbor spot."

"service very slow, food arrived all at once, first and second course within moments, and not even hot. grits congealed. won't go back. a shame, as location is great and so is the physical feel of the space."

"My friend and I were blown away by the food right up to dessert. Everything we ordered, simple though it was, was divine! My mouth is still savoring the ricotta butternut squash bruschetta. The cocktails weren't as exceptional especially for the price but I still enjoyed them very much. We were also tended to by our server on a timely basis. The reason I gave this a 4 is because we were seated by a rather large, loud group of girls and it was disruptive to our evening. I know the restaurant can't totally be held accountable butttt I felt it was worth mentioning."

"We enjoyed our food very much. They serve comfort food such as the delicious mushroom barley soup. Also the salmon sliders and chicken wrap were quite tasty. The portions were good and we enjoyed the nice atmosphere."

"This restaurant was recommended by my son who was there a few weeks ago with some co workers. We had a group of 8 also co workers and the food was amazing. Great comfort food, great surroundings and a wonderful staff! Have already recommended it to other coworkers and look forward to going back!"

"Friend of a Farmer is good but not special enough. Comfort food, including chicken pot pie, shepards pie, and roast turkey was well composed but should have been more special at the price paid - $25 for roast turkey and all the fixin's did not include a veg. A specials price - steak and crab cake - was not disclosed and at $45 it was close to twice the price of the regular entrees. A cheese plate appetizer was delicious but the portion was tiny for the $15 price - only 2 little wedges. The room was warm but packing crates piled in a corner were not pleasant to view. The servers did their job well."

"I did not even get to go! They should make a note on open table that they do not take reservations for outside. Didn't even seem to have my reservation when I arrived. Really frustrating since I booked specifically so I would not have a problem getting a seat at lunch time. Lack of understanding from the staff made me never want to go back."

"we all had salads - they were ok - fairly small - but fresh. the service was really poor - the waiter would not accomodate special requests (which we have done here before) and then hovered over us waiting for us to pay our check.....i'm not sure if i would go back."

"Disappointed. Won't go back. I thought it would be higher quality with more vegetarian options. It was noisy, not very fresh tasting and just okay. I did like the coffee press serving though. That and the cornbread were notable exceptions to an otherwise blah meal."

"Comfort food at its best. Romantic evening destination with a casual, low-lit atmosphere. Service is top drawer. Reasonably priced for the location. Hint: Request an upstairs table when making your reservation."

"Delicious food, fresh and tasty. Lots of options and great specials. Dessert list was killer - they have so many types of pies in addition to other non-pie options. Service was very good. The ambiance is sort of rustic and homey - upstairs it can be a little bit tight in terms of space, but you didn't feel crammed in at all and the noise level was reasonable."

"Food was delicious and very fresh, definitely cooked to order. The restaurant was very, very loud and crowded, and our group of 5 was squished into a very tight corner at a round table that barely fit us (and it was a Tuesday!) We went for dinner, but I hear brunch is the real winner. Best parts of the meal were the cornbread and the apple pie, which was large enough for the 5 of us to share."

"When we arrived, the hostess said we didn't have a reservation. We were led to one of the only tables on the lowe floor near the drafty door and when I asked if we could sit upstairs the hostess snapped "even if you have a reservation doesn't mean you get to sit where you want." It turned out that the last person from out party had already arrived and was seated upstairs, although nobody told us. I love their food and will definitely return for their chicken pot pie but that hostess needs to take a permanent vacation."

"We had a reservation and the hostess did not seem happy about seating us. She ignored us for awhile and then finally took us to our table. The waiter took a long time to show up. We over heard another waiter sharing the specials, we never heard them. And the waiter never showed up during the meal.
Aside from the service, everything else was great!"

"The organic food movement is huge in NYC and friend of a farmer fits right in. The menu is very simple and rustic. My husband had fried chicken, which was pretty good. I wouldnt say the best fried chicken in NYC, but it was pretty up there. I had the chicken pot pie which was delicious and I highly recommend the pie!! We sat by the fireplace and it was very cozy; and since it was off to the side of the restaurant, very quiet and private. Service was excellent. I would recommend it!"

"From a frequent restaurant patron, I was thoroughly impressed with Friend of a Farmer. Some of the best food I've tasted in a long time. I can't stop talking about it. Try the Parmesan garlic shrimp."
