Rio Grill, located in the Crossroads in Carmel, has been the place to meet friends, enjoy tasty, flavorful food and relax with a refreshing cocktail or glass of wine for over 28 Years.
Chef Yontz’ creative American dishes are some of the most flavorful, colorful and vibrant on the Monterey Peninsula and celebrate flavor in every mouthwatering bite!
In addition to the main dining room, Rio Grill has a comfortable lounge and full bar serving refreshing libations including the restaurant’s famous "Rio Rita.” The bar is lined with colorful caricatures of local faces and celebrities. Rio Grill's award-winning wine list features more than 160 labels featuring a ton of local wineries and an extensive selection available by the glass.

"The moment we were seated, we really enjoyed our dinner experience at Rio Grill. It was Father's day but the service and food were fantastic! The Heirloom tomato salad was a real winner, great fresh taste. The Rib eye special was excellent and so was the braised short rib. The sides were awesome, everything just went together perfectly. All of the servers and the hostess were always there when needed, never felt neglected at all, in fact felt very special. Definitely a "go to" dining experience in Carmel. Looking forward to our next visit!"

"This is the second time I have visited Rio Grill mainly because the first visit was so great. And again the food and service was excellent. However there was one problem. When I made reservations (on line) I informed Rio Grill that there would be 5 couples in my group and that we would like to have seperate checks for each couuple. It took them approximately 25 minutes to figure out the bills and then mine was done incorrectly. Noticed on their website it was mentioned they would be happy to split any bill evenely 4 ways. Now that may be OK for Rio Grill but I think customers deserve to have their own bill covering what they consumed. Is that too much to ask in this day of computers?"

"I have eaten at Rio dozen times since it opened in the mid eighty's, and every time has been as good as I remember. The romaine stuffed salad we had this time was as good a dish as I've eaten in a long time. This restaurant has stood the test of time and deserves to be among my very favorites."

"Don't the the fact that the restaurant is located in a shopping center scare you away. The food was terrific, the service knowledgable and attentive, and the wine and beer lists extensive enough to satisfy any palate.
My boyfriend, who is a chef, said his pork chop with polena and wax and green beans was probably the most perfect pork chop plate he has ever had in his life. (Actually, he can't stop talking about it!) I had penne pasta with a bison bolognaise, which was terrific as well.
We highly recommend this place, and we hope we have the occasion to return there when we come back to CA."

"After finishing up a tour of Carmel and fun on the beach we were starved. Open table was a quick way to book a reservation and find a location. We were seated quickly and the service was excellent and the food was very good! Definitely on the list to return to!"

"It was so refreshing to find a restaurant that has quality, unique food without the ridiculous price tag and stuck up servers. The General Manager worked side by side of his employees which we found admirable and the sign of a fantastic manager. It was my husband's bday and they made sure to make him feel special. Everyone from the hostess to manager stopped by and wished him a happy birthday. The food was delicious. My husband is a "pig" enthusiast :) but the jolly rancheros were the best pork belly item we have ever had! The cheddar biscuits amazing as well as our entrees ribs and sea bass. We also had the chocolate mousse desert at it was spectacular! I recommend EVERYONE check this place out."

"We were staying in Carmel Highlands rather than in the village and looked for something casual nearby. This spot in a small shopping center turned out to be ideal. The decor set the tone as a cool place right away. The bar area walls are hand painted with fun colorful portraits of local residents and celebrities and other famous folks. Very well done - makes a short wait enjoyable. The artwork around the rest of the restaurant is also interesting and appealing, making for a great atmosphere. Luckily, the food didn't disappoint. Salads and entrees were very good and a good value at the price. Check out Rio Grill if you are in the area and want something different than typical Carmel-by -the Sea atmosphere and prices."

"Went for a special occasion - got seated at a very nice table and enjoyed a fantastic meal. Despite the restaurant being very full, the staff was very attentive. My dish was a little less flavorful than it has been on previous occasions but the food was still very good. It is most likely this slight drop in flavor was merely a blip on the radar as my partner's dish was delicious as were the drinks and appetizers.
The surprise was when I arrived home and had received a call from the restaurant apologizing for not taking special notice of my anniversary posted on the reservation. Very nice!"

"Went to Rio Grill based on the recommnedation of one of the members of our party who had been there 20 years ago when in the area. They had liked it then, thus 12 of us headed out there after making a reservation on OpenTable. The food was great, and our server very attentive. We had a great experience for our rather large group - you never know if this will be the case when trying to feed so many people at one time."

"Have been a fan of Rio Grill and their sister restaurants for many years, so I was looking forward to a delicious and enjoyable evening with family. We waited a very long time to be seated and hostess was gracious enough to keep us informed of progress in setting up our table but really, it was a long and crowded 20 minutes in a bar area too busy to find seating for a pre-dinner cocktail. Our waitress was delightful and attentive but the food quality was far below our expectations. Salads were not freshly tossed and my caesar salad was full of bread crumbs instead of croutons. The dressing was bland and the temperature was way too warm. Cocktails were inventive and delicious.
Not so sure I want to go back to a formerly fave restaurant!"

"This was our second visit to Rio Grill and it will definitely be on our list to visit again when we are in the Carmel area. All restaurant staff were extremely friendly and provided outstanding customer service making us feel welcomed and appreciated. Our server was knowledgeable of menu items and offered good suggestions based on our questions. She also paid attention to the minor details making for a more pleasurable dining experience for us. Though not located in the touristy section of Carmel, it is definitely worth the short drive to experience this restaurant."

"Sat at the bar, our table wasn't ready yet. Mary was our bartender. Very nice young lady. Answered questions about the menu, her favorites etc... Becky was another great person. I had asked about their bottles of Tequila shaped as a skull, she had called her liqueur buyer and got the info for me. Then there was Keith.
Nice young man, great server.. So great, we bought him a glass of wine.
My Duck was amazing!
A very nice dining experience all around.
Oh, and Mary.... We were in Cannery Row and could not find that Beef jerky store you inquired about!
Will go back to the Rio Grill for sure!

"Hamburger was delicious as well as salmon but ribs were not easy to chew.
Last time we dined at Rio Grill it was Saturday and the noise disturbed all my senses.This time it was very pleasant and relaxing and I could have a conversation with my friends without having to yell. So, I suppose we will be coming during the week in the future."

"because I had reserved through open table ,(they knew who we were) when we arrived we were seated first in the bar, i said no, then she seated us (an empty room, mind you,) and put us next to the swinging door to the kitchen, I said no, then she said sit anywhere (since that whole space was empty) so I picked a table and sat...we were given menus, waitress was pleasant, but we were not given a "specials menu" and they had an ipad cocktail, wine and beer. and after we ordered a cocktail she took it away. and came back quickly to get our order and get us out quickly. (so we felt)another couple sat next to us and the waitress was all gussie over them and handed them the specials menu and went over with them. we had to ask for the i pad back"

"We have frequented Rio Grill for 27 years. We find that they go through periods when the food is not consistent. This is one of those periods. We had a very disappointing meal where the skirt steak was fine but the sweet potato gratin wasn't cooked through. The petrale sole special was too salty and the fresh tomato topping was nearly non-existent. Very mediocre meal. They just do not do fish dishes very well and never have. No one ever asks if there is a problem with the meal when they remove the plates with more than half the food remaining. They don't seem to care."

"What a pleasant surprise....the food is the best we have experienced in all of Carmel...and then some. Creative, reasonable, tasty.
