Firestone's
Firestone's Culinary Tavern, opened in 1999, is located in downtown Frederick's picturesque Historic District. It is housed in a 1921 building that was initially the home of Shipley's Department Store. The restaurant combines outstanding cuisine with the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood tavern. The Washington Post says, "the atmosphere is prime...the food is, too!".

"This was our first time dining in Frederick and Firestone came highly recommended. We were not disappointed! The service was impeccable, the food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was energizing. The Pear Salad was sweet and satisfying, the Halibut was warm and comforting and Bread Pudding was outstanding! We will be back"

"We went to Firestone's in May of 2013.
The food was incredible! We ordered appetizers, a salad to split, and then our entrees. He got the hanger steak which is kinda a Firestone's staple, and super delicious. I ordered the pork chops. They turned out to be one of the best things I've ever eaten.
The service was great as well. Clearly the servers take their jobs seriously, but are so good they still have time to stop and laugh or discuss the menu.
Only negative thing- sitting on the top level closest to the railing can be a little loud because of the bar. But if you're anything like me, it's the perfect people watching place. Birds eye view of the rest of the restaurant makes it special, new, and above all memorable!"

"After we got used to the noise, which made conversation difficult, we enjoyed our meal, until the entrees came. The waiter brought the wrong item for one diner, and my entree was a huge disappointment. For a $31 menu price I think three scallops on a dollop of rissoto is ridiculous. I'd gladly have done without the silly little spoon of pate or whatever it was, and the sorbet (you're not running the banquet room at Buckingham Palace, after all) was unnecessary. But THREE scallops for $31--unbelievable. It's a good thing there was a bread basket, otherwise we'd have gone hungry.
But we did appreciate the chocolate birthday surprise you provided my granddaughter.
I won't come back again for dinner. Lunch, maybe."

"Went to Firestone's for my mom's birthday on 5/01. Had an early dinner, sat next to the window upstairs--those are the best seats, get them if you can. Had the crab dip for starters, which was the evening's special. It was served with awesome, baby-sized toasted baugettes and big flat chips of fresh carrot and zucchini. I had the scallops for the main (had them before and, as always, they are INCREDIBLE), and my mom had the tuna steak that was also on special, I think? I'm not big on tuna, but she loved it. Finished with creme brulee, which is seriously just heaven in a dish. Leslie was amazinng, she's a fantastic server and super friendly/helpful."

"Service was great. Atmosphere was great. Wine was great. Dinner was great. The only issue was that I ordered the ceasar salad and broiled scallops for our dinner. The salad and dinner were delicious however the portions were rather meager for the pricing - only three scallops on a large plate!"

"We were most impressed by the wonderful menu choices. The divine food that arrived at our table was heavenly. The lamb sausage was spiced to perfection. The pork chop was moist and juicy. The trout vanished as quickly as it came to the table. And I am still dreaming about the duck. It was clear that great time and care went into preparing these dishes. The creativity in the food plateing was impressive. To my great suprise, I was delighted to see that you serve Illy coffee!

"Very vibrant scene. Mostly tables for 2, so our party of 4 waited awhile after our reservation time for a table. Bar and table service were excellent. Menu was small, but fresh. Food arrangement was artistic. Food quality was medium. Cowboy steak was of medium quality meat, but very tasty and cooked perfect. Lamb dish was dry. Appetizers were very tasty. The noise level was high due to the fact that the bar was very lively on Sunday PM. Prices on the high side for Frederick. Overall, good experience. Would return."

"As usual we were not disappointed. Everything was top notch, service food, selection, atmosphere. Tried a new dessert called a dreamsicle. It was made with hazelnut cake, marsacopone and blood orange sorbet with a blood orange jellied candy on the side. A refreshing change. The manager really knows his food pairings and we let him pick the wine. It was the best cabernet that I have had in a long while. It even had a "real" cork. If you try this place you will not be disappointed."

"I love Firestone's and consider it my favorite Frederick restaurant. However, our last two trips to Firestone's have been disappointing. On this visit, the Salmon and the Pork Chop were both over cooked and quite dry. On our prior visit, the Cowboy Steak was poorly cooked (ordered medium rare), over done on one side - but OK on the other, and the cut of meat itself was inferior. Very stringy. For the price, I expect better."

"We have never had a bad experience at Firestone's. The treatment was exceptional by all staff members. I had noted on my reservation that I was bringing my sister here for the first time and they made a note of that and talked to us about Frederick and a little about the history of the restaurant and other places in Frederick. "We were seated at 2:58 pm for our 2:30 reservation. After taking our drink orders, the waitress quickly told us that the "kitchen closes at 3. Needless to say, we felt a lot of pressure to get our order in. My wife ordered a quiche which, when served, was dry. Although she kept that fact to herself since she wanted to enjoy her family, she acknowledged later that her meal was not good. Ironically, she left a $40 tip because she loves her family."

"We had a lovely lunch and we were not in a hurry at all, but we noticed that the service was rather slow. We arrived early - 11:45 AM and met friends. The restaurant was not crowded.
This is not to complain about the Firestone, it is a lovely restaurant and I would recommend it to my friends."

"We have been to Firestone's in the past, and have always enjoyed it. However, we had not been there for awhile. We celebrated my husband's birthday with friends and found the experience there competely satisfying. The menu had sufficient variety, all of the food we ordered was delicious and came as per our specific requests (e.g., gluten free for one diner) and I was especially pleased with my Cosmo---many times I have found that when restaurants don't have a specific drink on their menu, they cannot make a standard drink well. I had also asked in advance for my husband's dessert to be brought at the end of the meal with a candle, and Firestone's followed through very well on that. I would highly recommend them."

"We (two couples) had a great time at Firestone's. Starting with the waiter who did an excellent job giving advice on wine, pacing the meal, no rushing through appetizers/salads to get main course on the table, which is more common than not these days and was very knowledgeable about the offerings and did a great job answering our questions.
The food was outstanding. I had the roasted beets and duck prosciutto as an appetizer-heavenly! Between the four of us we had the sausage, steak, Rockfish and scallops. All were excellent and each were deliciously unique in preparation and presentation. The cheesecake for dessert was devoured with smiles.

"One of the most consistently good restaurants in the Baltomore/Wash area. By far the best Ceasar salad around. They make it the way it should be made with fresh Romaine, hard boiled egg, crispy croutons, white anchovy and quality Pamesan dressed nicely with lemon and olive oil. Seared scallops wrapped in bacon over risotto with porcini and grilled cauliflower was outstanding! Combined with excellent service and chef Jack Walker's continued creativity in the kitchen, Firestones easily hangs with the big guys."

"Of all of the Frederick Restaurant Week restaurant we went to, this was the best. The service was excellent, very attentive, knowledgeable, passaionate, and not obtrusive. The charcuterie plate, duck proscuitto and lamb carpaccio kicked off our very tasty culinary adventure. We were treated to chef's complimentary and sublime squash soup and pineapple sorbet in between courses. For our entres, the Diver scallops were perfectly done and very tasty, the goat cheese gnocchi dish was divine, and the hangar steak was fantastic. We felt we were having a prime foodie experience. Though we were a party of three, this would be a romantic place for a couple. The only negative is the noise level (it was Fri nite). Kudos to restaurant and staff!"

"Had another amazingly delicious meal at Firestone’s! When we got there, the hostess said they did have a table available, but if we wanted to wait a few minutes they were just clearing one off in the upstairs window—score! Had a glass of a nice, red blend at the bar and enjoyed the ambiance until all was ready.
How was it? Our table was awesome, the bread was awesome, the tiny cup of soup was awesome, the appetizers… well, you get the idea. I enjoyed my hanger steak—rare, and they mean it!—immensely, but not as much as the veggies and potato it was served upon; those were heavenly. It’s true that Firestone’s is pricey, but they always seem to deliver."

"My husband and I love the menu here - always something new and exciting on it alongside some ever-present favorites (like the Cowboy Steak, yum!). The upstairs seating is wonderful with views of the streets of Frederick and the bar below. The chef sends out fun little samples of non-menu items in between courses which we always look forward to (last trip was an amazing potato leek soup and last summer we had a surprisingly good watermelon soup). Servers are excellent. We love the variety of beers (many local) and wine available."

"For the first time in the many years we've been going to Firestone's! We were disappointed with the food. The clam chowder was far too salty, almost too salty to eat, and the rock fish was so-so. However, our waitress was very good and properly attentive. As usual, the restaurant was very noisy. I want to emphasize that this was an anomaly compared to previous experience."

Food was delicious, although it seemed a little long from the time when we ordered at 5:15 pm to when the food arrived at 6:15 pm. "This was the second time I have come to Firestone's and everything was simply amazing - especially the service, and the food. This last time we went on a Saturday night and it became a little noisy downstairs at the bar but we really didn't notice until we went to leave and had to walk through the bar. I would definately recommend sitting upstairs, especially if you have late night reservations on the weekend. Overall Firestone's has become one of our favorite resteraunts in the area!"

"The food was delicious but a little expensive. I was expecting at least $5 or so less per entree. For those on a budget (and who isn't these days with this economy) I would think this would be a bit much to pay. Very cool atmosphere. We choose Firestone to meet some friends we haven't seen in several years. It was very loud and the bar was loaded...it was 9:30 when we left the restaurant. Definitely a place i'd hang if i was into the bar scene. Overall a great place."

"My sister and I met at Firestone's for lunch to celebrate our birthdays. We had a table by the window, as I requested, and a delightful server who was friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and when we ordered dessert, each arrived with a birthday candle. When the check was presented, we were told our desserts were "on the house." Altogether, a lovely experience. Highly recommend!"
