Maialino is a Roman-inspired trattoria from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, located in Gramercy Park. Maialino captures the warmth and comfort of a true neighborhood trattoria, with a menu that celebrates the restaurant's ongoing relationship with its local family of farmers and suppliers. Executive Chef Nick Anderer draws inspiration from the Roman cooking tradition to create soulful food, reflective of the rich culture of both Rome and New York.
"Went for dinner and decided to have the Sunday Pasta Tasting menu. Pastas were all perfect but portions were incredibly small followed up by that dreadful Torta della Nonna. Thank God for the bread and drinks. And, service was fantastic, as usual. First time I ever left this restaurant hungry, though. Alas, in this great neighborhood, I had my hunger sated in a nearby fabulous tapas place right down the street. I'll be back, but, will avoid that Pasta Menu."

"I can't say enough good things about Maialino. The best spaghetti carbonara I've had since Rome as well as that pig. It's not a cheap meal but also not outrageously expensive, particularly for the quality. My only complaint is that it's too hard to get a table. And our server was especially nice and helpful as we tried to put together our meal."

"Excellent service and food. Didn't have Chianti at the bar but a 2007 montenidoli 'il templare' was recommended and it was wonderful. Had crab appetizer which was delightful. My main course, spagetti vodola was a bit bland - I was disappointed. My husband had the fried artichoke appetizer and suckling pig special which he really enjoyed."

"One of the best restaurants if you are in New York and love Roman food. This is a place which truly serves plates Italian style and you can start with Antipasti and get all the way thru until you end with Grappa and Biscotti. Whenever we are in New York this is a must. Please take note that reservation must be made and usualy they are fully booked weeks in advace. This means something in New York."

"My second time at this restaurant. Wonderful dining experience! Great server, who helped us select samples/splits of various menu items with wine to match. Food is memorable. Ambience is rich and warm, like all Danny Meyer restaurants."

"Slightly dissapointment on other dishes... Not so crazy with appetizers, especially Octopus looks terrible. Pasta dishes were good and Suckling Roasted Pork was delicious. Very friendly and helpful to pick dishes. It was a good experience to try Roman Italian and I go back."

"Maialino gave us the most lovely and unexpected surprise of our trip to NY. They made us feel the warmth of home in such a far away place. I highly recommend Maialino and commend the entire staff for the detailed attention they pay to their customers :)"

"Since its opening, Maialino has been my go-to for meeting friends and colleagues for breakfast. And many of guests have now made it their go to restaurant too.
nice setting on Gramercy Park, Danny Meyer quality service and really nice food make this my favorite. there are very few places in NYC that provide the perfect atmosphere for a breakfast meeting.
have had lunch and dinner here too and recommend it.
all around LOVE for this restaurant."

"Although there was good hospitality, the food service & preparation was well below acceptable. Having just had great experiences at FIG, The Ordinary & HUSK in Charleston, we expected no less from this well frequented Danny Meyer establishment. Unfortunately, our appetizers were not hot when initially served nor when re-done. Not a good thing for the over-salted tripe nor the Polpo. Next was the Rabbit Ragu, also lukewarm but even more salty than the appetizers. Finally, the suckling pig which was very tasty, tender but once again lukewarm and sodium intense. Throughout our server was there to chat and take our order but never once ask about our food nor came to our table after service. We'll pass on Maialino in the future."

"The menu has lost its best dishes, and the remaining dishes are very ordinary, particularly the pastas, which were very ordinary. The pastries are good, but the lack of quality items in the hot food selection makes it unworthy of a revisit. Overall unworthy of this restaurant group."

"This is the fourth time I have dined here and I always have a fantastic experience between the service and the food. They recently launched their new tasting menu for $75/person. I decided to take my mother and aunt here to try it. The tasting menu was personalized for each table. I told the waiter what we liked and disliked and the chef put together a wonderful menu for us. The best part was everything is served family style to share. The waiter was also very knowledgable of the wine selection and picked a great bottle of wine that went well with all the food. We had four courses and three dishes per course. This is one of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan. I definitely recommend it."

"We dined once again at Maialino for brunch and it did not fail to deliver. We are very selective with our dining choices when we come to the city and we find Maialino irresitible. I had the trout with greens and hazelnuts, a perfect lunch for me. It was cooked perfectly, light, perfectly seasoned and just the right serving size. I always love their coffee service. The barista was on top of the perfect cortado."

Place is very comfortable. We left extremely happy. Would definitely recommend for late nite dining no matter where you are coming from or how you are dressed"

"This restaurant is very very good. For Sunday night dinner we had artichokes and crostini (with ricotta cheese and peas). Our main courses were cavatelli and spaghettini with clams. We shared the Tartufo. We shared a Montepulciana d'Abbruzzi. Everything perfect. But the best part of Maialino is the excellent service you get. The staff is welcoming and very knowledgeable on all the food. Any questions are answered thoroughly and enthusiastically. When explaining the evening specials the server always tells you the price for each one. These are well trained and intelligent people who enjoy what they are doing. Reservations are always hard to get buy keep trying. This restaurant is well worth it"

"Breakfast (great egg dishes, the porchetta/egg panini on Ciabatta, the thick peppered bacon and the best PRESS POT coffee in NYC). Lunch, Drinks and Dinner (anything on the menu - I can't write it all out) . From start to finish at any time during the day , with a super wine list with a total regard for price -value, Maialino as it ALL. Regulars know it and, if you've not been there, you must come and become one. The caring (not suffocating) service, no one will ever say 'no' to any request...you''ll be warmly welcomed, you'll be fed well and you will leave very contentedly. After all, it's a Danny Meyer restaurant....would that the rest of the industry made dining out this kind of a total unstuffy and delicious pleasure."

"We have been to Maialino five or six time - always for lunch or weekend brunch, and we just love it. The food is delicious yet simple; the room is perfectly styled to achieve warmth in a classic European style; the atmosphere is just right as far as we're concerned - you feel like you're in a special place without any fuss or pretensions."

"I frequent Maialino quite a bit, as I live very close by. The last meal was quite a bad experience, and so I am writing this review so that management is notified of certain issues.
I made a reservation at 8pm for two, and we were on time. Despite my reservation, my friend and I weren't seated until 8:26pm. I know because I checked my phone when we were finally seated. The hostess was somewhat apologetic, but we experienced a stark difference of treatment: a group of 4 that arrived at 8:10pm and were also waiting for their reservation were served glasses of sparkling wine, while we were ignored.
Once seated, our waiter also ignored us for an additional 12min and finally came with menus at 8:38pm. Bad service in general thereafter."

"I've been to this restaurant 30 times. It is consistently perfect.
The food is gorgeous and presented beautifully, rooted in few ingredients that are all "Farm to Fork" fresh - the cornerstone of truly great Italian food. The menu changes regularly - although some of my favorites remain constants.
The service is casual, attentive and perfect. The staff are always present and never on top of you. They are incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. There wine selection and cocktails are great.
The decor is perfectly executed Tuscan style with perfect lighting and a view on New York's Gramercy Park.
It's fit for foodies, for groups and it is also romantic. Love it!"

"I dine out quite a bit and I feel like I am always looking for a restaurant just like this. It was so comfortable...down to the ambience, menu, and the service. I felt so welcome and had a hard time choosing what I wanted to eat...always a great sign. The wine list was thorough with some of my favorite Italian selections and at a decent price. Now if they would just have another location in my home city, Nashville, I would be so happy!"

"There are plenty of good places for brunch in NYC. What I liked about Mailino was its relatively calm, quiet atmosphere and location. Unlike some places, I didn't feel crowded.
The food was good, definitely lots of options to choose from. Although they don't start serving alcohol before 12 on Sundays, the virgin Bloody Mary was very good. Tangy and spicy, and hit the spot. Good wait staff."

"Over the years i have gone to many Danny Meyer restaurants and I have never had a bad experience. I wouldn't say that this one was bad; perhaps surprising is a better word to describe my experience. I have always believed that the one thing you could always count on at DM restaurants was excellent service. Not this time. We asked the hostess to change our table and she did so, but her demeanor suggested that she was being put out by out by our request The waiter was okay. He was enthusiastic, but seemed inexperienced. I asked the person who brought our breakfast pastry basket to inform the waiter that we wanted a carafe of French Press coffee. It never came until a second request was made to the person who brought our entrees Meh service"

"Service was very slow, to the point the toast we ordered with our eggs came 20mins late when we had pretty much finished. If it was busy I may have understood but it wasn't, it was actually quite empty. The redeeming point is that the manager was very apologetic and took steps to help address our disappointment in the meal. Her efforts were much appreciated and for that reason alone I would consider the possibility of giving it another shot. However truth is the food was just ok, under seasoned and unmemorable, not sure if it would be worth it."

"The food we had was outstanding. we basically had pork three ways: pate di campagna, tagliatelle with pork ragu and suckling pig (maialino). all three dishes were outstanding. the portions were fine for the pate and pasta but the maialino (suckling pig) was definitely on the smallish side for $38. however, since it was delicious, it's a small thing. service was great, pace of the meal was slow but that fine with us and cocktails and wine were perfectly made and served. It was a fun meal and a new great find!"
