"Nearly empty at lunchtime on a Friday - granted, I had an 11:30 reservation but it hadn't livened up when I left at about 12:30. Prompt service, food was brought out quickly and accurately, and the meal was good but nothing special. It had a very midwest feel to the place, not exactly sure why - perhaps it's the decor.
This is one of those restaurants where it is difficult to point out anything negative, but there are also no compelling positives to make me recommend it. Thus the 3-star rating."

"We ordered three different early bird entrees. They easily made a special accomodation on the prep on one dish. The staff was friendly and attentive. The chicken with prosciutto was phenomenally tasty. The tri-tip was juicy and delicious. Sadly, we were not thrilled with the overall flavor of the Pork Loin with Apricot Chutney. It lacked flavor - even trying to be sure there was some chutney (which was delicious) with each bite. Could just be us."

"We ate here recently, and ordered their Early Bird Special three-course dinner. While the service was excellent, the food was disappointing. However, it was fresh, and the food portions were large, as well as the size of the glasses of wine and beer. It is possible that ordering from the regular menu would have brought forth some imaginative creations/spicing, but that was not true of the Early Bird. We were there on a week night, and the bar scene was certainly "vibrant." I think they have a happy hour, and people who work near the downtown Sunnyvale area seem to gather at Tarragon. The prices were certainly reasonable. With a little improvement in the kitchen, this could be a "neighborhood gem.""

"Anniversary Spectacular!
We celebrated our 22nd anniversary. We compared the menu with Pasta Moon in Half Moon Bay and were glad we made the choice to go to Tarragon. We saved gas money and had a comparable meal for half the price, using the Early Bird special."

"Food was excellent as always. We were early enough to enjoy the $20 Early Bird Special which is a great deal. Our party had the lamb, pork loin and salmon. All was very tasty and everyone enjoyed their meals including soup or salad and dessert. The $4 glass of wine was very reasonable and just enough for dinner since we had gone early to join in the happy hour."

"We have been to Tarragon a few times before and were satisfied. We re-visited, after a long hiatus, to try out their Early bird Special ($20/person for three course meal). The main entree portions for the early bird special are as a few others have commented - small. A few bites and it is gone. We had three in our part and we ordered the Pork Tenderlion, Grilled Salmon and the Rack of Lamb. All three entrees were prepared well and were good, but nothing special. Of the three entrees, the Salmon was the largest with respect to portion size (what someone may expect as a entree portion). The Pork and Lamb were pretty small portions and we were left feeling like they were appetizers, so just set your expectations appropriately."

"Excellent experience, all around. We showed up early, and had a few drinks at the bar - beautiful bar, nicely set up for socializing, felt "right in the middle of the action". We were seated on time, and proceeded to have a fabulous meal x4 - each of our party thought their meal was excellent, and the ambience is always a big plus here. We never felt rushed, and the service was top-rate. Great time in a New York-style bistro atmosphere - highly recommended for an adult get-away."

"I was meeting a guest for the first time and made reservations through Open Table. I made a note asking for a table suitable for the occasion. The restaurant seated us at the perfect table .. quite and away from the crowd. We both enjoyed the baked brie and mussels, as well as the lamb and rib eye. The main courses were not 5-star, but more than good enough, and yes, I would return. The house wine suggested by the server was a good complement to our meal. Though we lingered for over two hours, we were never made to feel hurried. All in all, a very good dining experience on a Friday night."

"I have been to Tarragon 3 times - Twice for dinner and once for lunch - each time the food has been consistently very good - not amazing, but very good. I have had both salmon and steak, both were cooked to perfection with some interesting flavor combinations. I will continue to use Tarragon as a great local standby."

"The ambiance of the restaurant was good. Services was up to par. My friend ordered grilled salmon and I ordered grilled Tipalia. Both fillets were tasty, but the rice and vegetables came with the dishes were lukewarm. Rice tasted overnight and just microwaved. Really disappointed. Not likely to go again."

"One of our favorite places, always top notch service. Food was prix fixe for Valentine's Day, which is not our favorite format, but the food was all fresh and didn't seem to be made "in bulk".
This is a vastly underrated restaurant right in the heart of the Murphy district in Sunnyvale. Rarely a wait, good seating and ambience, good food, good service. Highly recommend"

"I know we sound old but the early bird dinners even on Saturday with salad or soup, main course and desert for $20 is great. You can add house wine or tap beer for $5 or pick from their good wine list. Cioppino is a little spicy so I really liked it while my wife enjoyed the lamb."

"We were on a tight schedule when we ate there last Sat night. Despite telling our waitress about our time limitation, she was not successful in getting the food out faster. She also took an extremely long time to get our check and receipt while taking dessert orders and serving dessert at the table next to us. The food was delicious so we would go there again when we could take more time."

"The wine we choose was not available and I had also called ahead that day to request a booth but was told it was first come, first serve and then when we got there, two of party had sat before I got in and I saw 3 or 4 booth available and asked to sit in a specific one but was told it was reserved and it sounded like the same older gentlemen I had talked to earlier that day and I did say I thought you couldn't reserve booths, he pretty much stumbled and didn't really give me a reason why. But we ended up with a different booth and a great server. So thumbs down on management but the servers were great!"
