Located in a boutique storefront in Roscoe Village at 2008 West Roscoe Street, the space combines cozy/chic design elements with urban vintage charm. An innovative approach to ordering sets Volo apart making enjoying wine easy, accessible, and un-intimidating… all in a casual neighborhood atmosphere.
New: The restaurant now features a year-round heated retractable enclosure over its outdoor cabana patio (#1 Hidden City Patio - Chicago Magazine) for use on select weekend nights for private events & tasting.
"They have a cabana in the back, but we have yet to be able to sit there. It is always booked. The seating is a little close, but the biggest detraction to Volo is the noise level. It is almost impossible to have a conversation at a normal decibel level. However, we do enjoy the food, the physical appearance, the neighborhood, and the wines on tap."

"The wine bar was wonderful. We sat in the back area, which was very quaint. Food was delicious although portion sizes were a little bit smaller than expected. Wine was excellent. We had a wonderful time and would come again."

"Seated quickly, attended to within a short time. Had a glass of wine pretty quickly but after ordering a couple plates, we didn't see the server for the next 30 minutes. Finally we were told the food would be out shortly but it still took another 10-12 minutes. All we had ordered was the filet and a cheese plate. I can understand a delay on the filet (even though it was a very small appetizer size portion), but the cheese doesn't even require cooking. And it was two pieces. I would skip this place altogether, but if you really want to try it, don't show up hungry, and come with plenty of patience."

"The wine list alone is great. The back porch is not as amazing as the pictures make it seem. The scene is very quiet. The food was really not worthy of the wine list. Even the cheese plate was just alright, not great. They charge you extra for anything other than cheese on the plate (nuts... jams...) that was the most surprising part. The chicken liver is not a pate, but rather fried and shaped similar to a nugget - very unexpected and not good (my table sent ours back because we really didn't care of it at all). Recommendation: Go in the winter, sit at the bar inside, try some of their wine, go somewhere else for dinner."

"Volo never disappoints. The wine flights, the cheese selection and beyond. It's always a pleasure. We dine year round but summer is perhaps the best, due the quaint rear patio. Best kept secret in the city!"

"It took a while before our waitress to get to us, but after that it was fine. We were given the wrong menus, which slowed things a bit. The food was average. The steak tartare was great. I enjoyed the duck as well. The mussels were bland. Cookie and custard dessert was good, though a bit heavy for me. Of the nine courses, those were the only ones which I remembered so the others didn't stand out much. It was a bit expensive, but not unreasonable. They sat us in the middle of the back covered patio. It was awkward when other seats to the side (including the ones under canopies were opened). It was also too cold that evening for that."

"The wine list and service was great, but the food is VERY sub par. Even the bread was too chewy and dry. I would only rexommend this place for wine, but not dinner."

"First time trying Volo and it was a great experience. I was surprised to see a large group seated next to us with many young children as the menu did not seem to have any options for kids and they were a little loud considering. We tried many things on the menu and for the most part everything was really good. I wouldn't recommend the calamari at all, it was oily and not very tasty. Also, the Ahi Tuna appetizer wasn't the best cut of tuna, the fish while flavorful was very chewy. However, I would recommend the tacos, the steak tartare and the black and blue (steak and blue cheese potatoes). The black and blue was by far the star of the night. The wine selection was good. Overall it was a good find and I'll be back."

"The service at Volo has always been fantastic and this time was no exception. The server and hostess?/manager? were very attentive. Every time I am there I always tell the server what kind of wine I like and let them pick one for me and it is always perfect!! Can't wait for the back patio to open. This is the perfect place for a girl's night out or a romantic date night."

"Always a great time (have been here about half-a-dozen times). Great food and wine options, but one can't leave without trying the ahi tataki (our favorite)."

"For some reason the service on Friday night was extremely slow. Our food took way too long to come out. We hadn't had this same experience in the past so I'm not sure what the problem was."

"I went here for Valentine's Day and booked a table rather last minute for 8:30pm. Requested a table away from the door since it was cold out and they put us in the back in a great oversized corner booth which was really romantic. It is a small, cute place with a really nice date vibe. The service was excellent, quick friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding and very reasonably priced. We had a trio of cheeses, mussels (great portion and amazing sauce for bread dipping), ahi tuna and a steak dish that I believe was called black and blue. Everything was cooked to perfection. The wine flights were both delicious and reasonably priced. Overall, we had a great night and only ended up costing $80 or so with tip. Definitely recommend!"
