Bidwell Street Bistro is a bistro in the true sense of the word. It has neither stark informality of a cafe, nor the luxurious appointments of fine dining, but maintains the intimate and unassuming ambiance of the first bistro's in Paris. You will feel welcomed by the staff, whether you order a bowl of soup and a glass of wine at the bar, or a three course meal and a great bottle of wine.

"While the food was quite good the poor service made for a disappointing dining experience. No bread or water to the table until I asked after 5 minutes. Table not cleared until almost 10 minutes after we finished eating. Drink glasses empty almost 5 minutes and having to flag down another server. Server spent more time chatting to guests at the bar than covering the needs of her table.
I have been here for happy hour and really enjoyed both the food and the service. Not impressed with the table service at dinner."

"We have been going to Bidwell Street Bistro right from the month it opened, and have rarely been disappointed. We haven't been there for a while -- they've expanded since our last visit -- but returned this year for a Mother's Day brunch. It was a buffet, with pretty standard fare -- smoked salmon, tri-tip, baked salmon, ham, penne bolognese, various salads -- as well as "bottomless" mimosas and/or champagne. The food was quite good, although not spectacular, and the service was a little spotty. (I suspect the more senior staff was serving food at the buffet table.) All in all, it was a pleasant experience. The cheesecake, by the way, was excellent."

"I have enjoyed eating here in the past but the last few times I have gone the food has been disappointing. This time I ordered the seafood pasta. I mentioned to the waiter that I did not care for mussels and he said no problem I will request additional prawns and cod. The pasta arrived with 4 overcooked prawns and tasteless cod. Primarily pasta.
My friend however enjoyed the steak frittes. The wine was delicious the service nothing to write home about."

"Six of us went for a birthday celebration. When asked if we were there for a special occasion we shared this with our waitress. That was the end of it - no free drink for the Birthday Gal, no attempt to add to our evening. The food was enjoyed by all but the service wasn't quick and was delivered in a conveyor belt delivery rather than with any passion. The absolute minimum courtesy was provided. This compared strongly with previous occasions at the same restaurant when service had been engaging and thoughtful. Also, the restaurant was half empty and nearly completely empty by 9PM."

"We eat at Bidwell fairly often (about once a month). We recommend it to friends. We brought friends with us when we made this reservation. They all said the food was excellent, the wine was good, the server could have been a little more attentive while we waited for our food but all in all it was very good experience. We'll be back and continue to recommend the place."

"My dinner (pork chop with soft polenta and a reduction balsamic sauce with figs) was wonderful. My husband had "Mary's" chicken breast, which was too dry and tough for his taste. My wine selection, which our waiter helped me choose, was perfect and my dessert (coconut cream cake with a mango creme anglaise) was excellent.
Our waiter was really helpful and didn't blink when we asked him to turn down the music that was too loud overhead. He was totally responsive and had a great sense of humor."

"Our server Marilyn M was fantastic. The food was outstanding. We like a leisurely meal....this place is very leisurely, i.e. don't go there if you need to eat in a hurry. Great menu. "A lovely meal with great service, as usual. We so enjoy everything on the menu here at Bidwell Street Bistro, and the Spring Vegetable Soup was outstanding. Such a nice surprise, with asparagus, mushrooms and other vegetables.
And our server is always so cheerful and responsive. We never have to search for her or think that we will not see her again until our meal is over. She is a gem.
Every lunch here is a special occasion. We so enjoy this restaurant!"

"After receiving bread and water from the busser, we proceeded to wait nearly 15 minutes before we were greated by a server, who wandered over to see if we were "doing alright." Uh.... No?!? Explained that no one had come to the table (despite the place being less than half full)- she quickly, and apologetically, took our order and we got under way. Ordered the White Linen cocktail, but was left underwhelmed by it- way too much gin and not enough St. Germain. The Calamari was bland and under seasoned, as was one of its sauces. However, the Duck Confit was fantastic, as was the Short Rib Entree. When I made the reservation- I noted that it was my husbands birthday, but received no mention of it from the staff. Left slightly irritated..."

"While the food was delicious the wait to receive our dinner was rediculous. With our reservations we were seated promptly but after that it all stopped. 20 minutes before bread was put on our table, 50 minutes before our soup course arrived, and an hour and 20 minutes before our entrees came to the table. During all this time our waitress was off in another room and unavailable (or not wanting)to explain what was going on, pour us another glass of wine, or even make sure that our bread didn't run out. Even though we enjoyed the food I can't see returning."

"We ordered a salad with apples, pecans, and blue cheese. When we received the salads one had about 2 bites of chicken. Upon further discovery neither salad had apples. We notified our server and she apologized and came back with all of the ingredients. It was a good salad once we had all of the ingredients.
Went twice because of Groupons I had. Probably won't go back unless in the area. First time had sandwiches and they were nothing special."
