Negril Village
Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, Negril Village promises to entertain your soul as well as your palette in a hip & classy environment. The latest installment in the Negril chain specializes in Nu Caribbean cuisine or what is dubbed “New York Savvy Caribbean cuisine”. The menu embraces the cooking styles and techniques of destinations such as Trinidad (i.e. Chicken Roti), Puerto Rico (i.e. Island Paella), and of course Jamaica (i.e. Jerk Chicken and Ackee). Set on two levels, the restaurants décor can be described as contemporary yet natural. The spacious dining room, on the upper level, boasts bamboo floors and seashell lined walls; while the Rhum lounge, on the lower level, warms you with its raisin interior, red lacquer floors, and in-house DJ. Live Reggae, Calypso, and Latin bands will further enchant you as you sip one of Negril Village’s many tropical drinks.

"I am of Jamaican descent and usually I stay away from "gourmet" carribean eateries because usually they have no clue on how to make authentic island food. Negril defies all of that. They know how to make an authentic Jamaican meal. From the curry goat, oxtail, jerk chicken or shrimp, it is all good!"

"upon arrival there were plenty of seats so I requested a particular 1 other than where i was being seated and was told the area was for 5 ppl not 4 > only to watch them seat 4 ppl there. The food is always delicious but the customer service takes away from the experience. waiter was inattentive and the greeting staff prove to careless about making customers comfortable but automatically program there computer to take a 17% gratuity. What proves worst is that the owner himself was present and i felt that he could have done more to address my concerns on Mother's day but he minimized the issue and disregarded us even after I asked to speak to him personally.. TRULY SADDENED BY HOW HE HANDLED IT ALL."

"My wife and I have tried to get a table in this spot for years. Every time we come to NYC, it has been booked so we were never able to sample this restaurant. Although that was frustrating, we took it as a good sign. The place has a nice vibe. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is good. What more could you want? And lest I forget, the drinks are great!"

"This is my second time dining at Negril Village and I must say this experience was totally different from my first. I was somewhat disappointed with the service I received. Although I had reservations I waited approximately 54 minutes to be seated, it was like the reservation was null and void! It all begin when I checked I asked the seater if it was possible for my party and I to be seated in the lower level. I also advised her that if there was no seating down there I would gladly be seated in the dining area. Well, somehow due to my request and them running behind I got bumped all the way to the end of the list. This was unacceptable! And their nonchalant attitudes just intensified my dissatisfaction. Get it together Negril!"

"The girls and I came here Friday to celebrate my birthday and we had a wonderful time. The food was great and the drinks were good (the rum punch is no joke). "I went here last week to celebrate by 30th birthday with some family and friends. We had a good experience.
Pros:
My entire group enjoyed their food and drinks! Beware, the drinks are a bit strong.
Lively spot great for all ages, the music was good. A bit loud.
Cons:
They will not seat you until your entire group has arrived. Make a reservation and lie to your friends about timing.
We waited a long time for our entrees to come out. I am guessing because it was so packed. Try to go earlier on a Friday or Saturday night.
Even if you eat upstairs they will charge you to go to their lounge in the basement. If you eat there the lounge should be free.
I would definitely go back again!"

"I took my mum there for her 78th birthday. I've eaten at Negril Village before and thought it would be a nice place to celebrate my mum's birthday. Our server was Miguel and he was spot on with his charm. Along with my party was my sister and my nephew. They all rave about the food and the atmosphere where we enjoyed our dining experience. Price was not an object. Just good service and celebrating my mum's first experience there. No less, Negril Village will see us yet again and hopefully we get Miguel again. I'm glad you investigated my reservation here on Open Table and that I fulfilled the reservation on date stetted. I guess since it's such a popular restaurant, during the confusion, one can make an error that I honour my reservation."

"I really enjoyed myself. I had a group of 9 people and we all sat comfortably. The food, music and the atmosphere was the best. I would definitely recommend this place to others. The only downside is that they will not sit the party until everyone is there so definitely come on time!"

"Our reservations were for 12:30 party of 10, we arrived @ 1205 and were told they were setting up- no prob we waited and toured the basement lounge. Nice atmosphere- Although the gentleman at the door's attitude left much to be desired. He had a rudeness about him that didn't transcend throughout the place-thank goodness. Anyway- live steel band player was a nice added touch to our Easter brunch. The food was remarkable- great traditional Jamaican flavor and portions were right on point.Being of caribbean descent this was a great plus! We even had our free d rink voucher honored. "We enjoyed Negril. I have been a fan since they were located on 23rd Street, so it's great to see they have not lost their mojo.
It was packed, thank goodness we had a reservation. We had the codfish fritters, escoviche fish, my fav - the oxtails, jamaican coffee and the kids chicken fingers. Excellent!

"I went to Negril on Saturday 3/23/13 with a group of friends for my birthday and really really enjoyed myself. The place is beautiful the ambiance and setting is great, there was definitely a great vibe. I had a reservation and only waited ten minutes to be seated. The service was great! He was right on point with everything and timely. I had the curry shrimp, which was amazing and the sauce was to die for. The bill was just over $200 with five of us! Drinks were amazing as well! Would definitely recommend it and look forward to doing it again."

"I had a pretty nice birthday dinner here this past weekend. Although the space is tight, it really helped that we made a reservation. We were seated in a cozy corner where we had privacy and could talk freely without feeling too crammed. After dinner, we went down to the lounge for a bit. It's small, but attracts a fun crowd. It's a great spot because with the lounge you get dinner with an after party. The food was really good. I had the chicken roti with a side of peas and rice. Everything tasted pretty great. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. The service was just okay. Gratuity was included."

"I had a great time at Negril's! The food was excellent, and the waiter Gabriele was very attentive. I've already made reservations to go back next month. It was a bit noisy, but that's to be expected. I would prefer a booth seat next time, being that the tables are a little close."

"I took my family for Sunday Brunch, we were a group of seven. The waiter seemed to behave as he earned his tip from the beginning of the service. We were the second group in the restaurant to order and had to wait over 40 minutes for our food. It was especially annoying to see others come after us, to have ordered and received their food. Insult to injury our waiter never came over to update us on our order. When the food did arrive, my order was wrong and had to be sent back TWICE, still no waiter. Even getting the check was another 15 min wait, in an empty restaurant. Poor service and medicore food was not a good dining experience."

"The food was fantastic and truly authentic Jamaican cooking like how my mom makes it. Sunday brunch has free flowing mamosas which a group of girls next to us were clearly taking advantage of and as a result making a ruckus. The waiter was very accommodating, however, and moved us to a quiter location instantly. It was I overall a great experience and I would highly recommend it.
p.s. the curry roti is BOMB"
