An intimate urban pub in Belltown. Plates to share. Cocktails to entice.
Chefs Brian McCracken and Dana Tough opened Spur in Seattle’s Belltown in 2008 and already it’s been recognized by Food & Wine magazine as one of the country’s top restaurants. Acknowledged for turning out some of the best dishes and cocktails in town by local media, the Chefs were selected as "Rising Star Chefs" nationally by the industry insider magazine StarChefs. In addition to earning the attention of Wine & Spirits magazine, their cocktails have made Spur one of Seattle’s top 10 bars.
The Chefs’ collaboration dates back to their time in the kitchen at Maria Hines’ Earth and Ocean restaurant, together on Hines’ traveling team at the 2005 James Beard Dinner in New York, and today creating their menus at Spur.
"Although the food is the star here, the service and the wine list provide a strong accompaniment that takes the total dining experience to the next level."

"Third time at this restaurant and once again it did not disappoint. A real "foody" place and the specialty drinks are great. Server (Dylan) is more than a server. He makes you feel at home and is most helpful in suggestions which adds to the fun."

"Food was amazing. Service fantastic. Cocktails almost perfect. Only complaint is that as a middle-aged, increasingly out of shape guy, the bar stool seating grew more and more uncomfortable as the evening wore on."

"The food tasted good, but we left hungry. Small plates seem to be the new fad in Seattle, but these were not small plate prices - these were normal entree prices. Also, we were told a few of the food selections were normal entree sizes - that would be true if you normally only take 4 bites. The house cocktails were delicious and probably saved the experience. Definitely won't go back."

"The food was very good. The burger just might be the beat in Seattle. Seriously. The menu required some explanation but our server was so knowledgeable and helpful that it became a fun adventure rather than intimidating or confusing. We were extremely impressed with the extent of her knowledge; from wine to food there wasn't a question she couldn't answer, and she did it all in a friendly and enthusiastic, yet unobtrusive way. On her advice We shared a few "starters" (roughly the top half of the left column of the menu, and then a couple of entrees. We got to experience variety without overdoing it (which we certainly would have had we gone it alone). Overall a great place and ask questions!"

"Some of the most amazing food I have ever eaten. Coming to Spur is an experience everyone needs to enjoy before try die. I promise you will not be disappointed in the food. Just know you might not be "full" by the end of the meal but that is not the reason you go to Spur. I you feel you need more quantity while dining order their shoe string French fries, that should do the trick."

"Our second time there and the service and food was fantastic once again. We ordered a variety of dishes between the four of us and the black cod was the only one we probably wouldn't order again. Salmon crostini, gnudi and guinea fowl was off the chart good! Love this little restaurant."

"This was one of the best meals I have eaten in all of Seattle. We ordered the smaller of the two tasting menus - and after our first course we were so glad we did, since we knew we were going to have 4 more delicious courses coming. I love SPUR!"

"In general the food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the Salmon crutinis, Pork Cheeks and the Guiena Fowl. I would pass on the Hamachi and Sausage. Kind of unimpressed, for the price and prestige of the restaurant, that we had to wait 25 minutes after our reservation time to be seated."

"Traveling from Vancouver, Canada. First time trying the restaurant and everyone was very pleased with their food! We had the smoked Hamachi, beet salad and a plate of fries to share (YUM!) and I had the black cod myself which i cleaned the plate!! I couldn't believe we had room for desert!! Cant' remember the name of it but was very popular among our table for sure. Must try their cocktails also!! Was delicious!!!!"

"I went on a Saturday with a friend. We started with cocktails. The waitress was very knowledgeable and helped us pick out something she thought we'd like, and she was spot-on! The brioche was brioche, but the gnudi was heaven on a plate - we agreed we could have eaten a bowl of that alone. I had the tagliatelle and it was one of the best things I've had in my life, except the sous-vide duck egg that I broke over the top. The yolk was divine. The white was snotlike and unappetizing. Sous-vide is really trendy right now, and I almost felt like the technique was an afterthought. The dish was perfect; I would've been happy with a normal over-easy egg! My friend had the burger and loved it, but RAVED about the fries - "world's best", she said!"

"Not sure what happened. We have been to Spur before and previously the food was great. On our most recent outing, however, something was off. There just wasn't the attention to detail that we expect. Perhaps there's a new chef?"

"Excellent quality food with creative combinations of ingredients -- very tasty. The problems were 1) portion sizes were extremely small and 2) tables were too close together, making private conversation impossible."

"I made a reservation here for me and my boyfriend on Valentines day. All five courses were amazing! I think my favorite was the truffled gnudi and his favorite was the smoked hamachi with lemon. The cocktails were also fantastic and I regret not getting the cocktail pairing. We had a great time. The only thing that was unfortunate was that not all the other diners that night cleaned their plates! It was such good food I was taken aback to see plates with half the meal still on it going back in preparation for the next course. Overall we had a wonderful time and would come back for Valentines day or just a Tuesday."

"My Spur experience was top notch from the moment I made the reservation on Open Table until we left after dinner!
We arrived a couple of minutes early and were greeted and seated immediately. The tables are close but the energy in the room is great. We were able to consult our neighbors on both sides to get great recommendations. Coincidentally, our table neighbors were some of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet too!
We ordered 6 small plates for the two of us and the food and service were absolutely perfect. We asked for a specific order for the first 3 lighter dishes and received them exactly as ordered. Our waiter was completely on top of it, and I know how hard he was working as it was a very busy Saturday night."

"It was a flawless meal. From the smoked salmon and mascarpone amuse bouche to the stout-flavored ice cream. The slices of avocado stuffed with smoked hamachi was amazing. The veal sweetbreads were not only perfectly cooked, but were paired with a butternut squash puree and the combination was paradigm-shifting. And just when you thought it couldn't get better, the roasted cod came out, bathed in the most subtle mushroom broth. It was, at once, ethereal and decadent, delicate and delectable. And Ken, the bartender, and the kitchen staff very kindly threw in an extra dessert. My first meal this trip and a wonderful welcome to the Pacific Northwest."

"Really fun, great food, and when we finally got a server he was outstanding!!! My husband and I did the eight course chefs menu. It was awesome. We watched as some of the burgErs came out to other tables and almost thought we should have gone that direction. Thankfully the taster menu was so amazing. We agreed we would make a point of going back to actually eat one of their burgers with what appeared to be hand cut shoestring French fried potatoes. They looked like pure decadence!"

"Our experience here are FANTASTIC! I wish I could remember our server's name. She was OUTSTANDING!! The Food was amazing! The salmon appetizer with the home made mascarpone cheese left me speechless. If i could i would hook myself up to an IV of that, the pork cheeks, the passion fruit sorbet and the grapefruit foam from my drink."

"Hip and elegant, Spur has artfully delicious food served by friendly and attentive staff in an energetic atmosphere. It's on the loud side, which adds to the feeling of energy and gives it an upscale hip vibe. I chose the pre-fixe wine pairing dinner While the pairings were good, I wasn't wowed. A cabernet served with delicate black cod dish shared earthy flavors, for instance, but the tannins slightly overpowered the fish. The goat cheese gnudi was to die for - I almost wish I'd ordered just that. All in all, a wonderful meal. Prices were what you'd expect for the quality and artistry and downtown location. Recommended."

"For the price, I would not recommend Spur. Maybe I'm used to getting a little more bang for my buck, but the food, while good, was not spectacular enough to merit a $140 bill. The best thing about my meal was my cocktail. And I'm not usually a fan of anything done "micro"- micro carrots are just a total disappointment. If you are asking me to pay $14-$30 for a small plate, then please make sure the food is phenomenal. It seemed like the chefs were more interested in how trendy their cooking methods were than the flavor- almost everything as so bland and had no flavor depth. The best dish we had, the sausage with chickpeas, wasn't even on the tasting menu we ordered. And the tasting menu is more expensive than buying the dishes individually."

"While the drinks are outstanding, it seems that the lone bartender was a little overwhelmed, even though when we walked in around 6pm it wasn't very full. Waiting for at least 15 minutes each time you order a martini seems a bit excessive though. Even when the waiter tells you "it's coming really soon" it's still 5 minutes away..."

"The food is delicious. It is all small plates for sharing amongst your group. It may seem a bit expensive, but once you take a bite, you will know what you paid for. It is a small place, so I would highly suggest making reservations."

"Overall pretty solid. Salmon crostini and wagyu dish were pretty on point. The cod could have used a bit more flavor but the fish was cooked perfectly.
Pork belly was a bit over-rated (had a side of it not the slider). Dessert (cake with ice cream) was underwhelming."

"Wow! I'm blown away by the service my husband and I received at Spur. We made a reservation here as part of our Christmas gift to each other, as we'd both heard great things. We arrived about 20 minutes early for our reservation, but were promptly seated. Our server, Jarad, took our drink orders right away and answered our questions about the way the menu was structured without making us feel silly for having to ask. Our appetizers were served right away and were absolutely stunning, we shared the taglitelle & chicory salad. When our mains failed to materialize within 40 min. of our appetizers, they comped an additional app. and both of our entrees without prompting on our part. Way to turn this experience around-we'll definitely be back!"
