"We came here for our anniversary dinner and were very well looked after by all the staff. Even though the restaurant was empty (as we arrived very early), we decided not to sit by the window because of the heat/glare from the sunset; the wonderful picture window could definitely use an awning or shades to alleviate some of this!
Our food was variable; the grilled octopus, seared scallops were good but nothing special; however the poached shrimp salad and the wagyu beef were outstanding.

"Really enjoyed the tasting menu. My cocktail was excellent as well. Would have loved a seat by the window, but still was able to experience the sunset from an inner table. With the condo-like accommodations we stayed at, we actually ended up making a lot of our own meals, so this is what I would suggest as a fancy evening out, perhaps a bit of a splurge. The grounds of the St Regis are beautiful."

"Kauai Grill is a lovely place with a fantastic ocean view. I requested a table by the window. Understandably, we didn't get it because the tables were already occupied, but an acknowledgment of our request would have been nice. The roasted carrot appetizer was delicious! The Mahi Mahi appetizer, however, came with a sauce that, while very good, was barely lukewarm. When I requested to have the sauce heated to a higher temperature the staff was very accommodating and fulfilled my request."

"Wonderful choice for my birthday dinner. Food and service were outstanding. The noise level, however, was almost unbearable. There were two loud large groups which really made a lot of noise. We were not sitting close to them but we almost couldn't carry on a conversation. Other than that, it was a lovely evening."

"We are visiting Princeville and made reservations at the Kauai Grill for a special occasion dinner. The food was (mostly) excellent. Highly recommend the salmon sashimi, the Hamachi sashimi, and the poached egg appetizer. The signature mahi mahi dish was also very good. Dessert was meh.
Had to request a change in table as the first one was LOUD. We're fine with a lively restaurant but it was ridiculous. Decor was almost all hard surfaces, so one or two loud tables made the whole restaurant unpleasant. Staff did an okay job with service - said "happy anniversary" a bunch of times (good), but there were no special touches, comps, etc. (which a nice restaurant will usually do).
Given low value for money I would not eat here again."

"We were very much anticipating dining at the Kauai Grill and were definitely not disappointed. The food was superb ((the wagyu filet was one of the best cuts of beef I've had in awhile.) and Sequoia and his colleagues took very good care of us. Another diner came over and remarked that we had the best seat in the house because we were right in front of the windows facing the ocean and mountains and saw the most incredible sunset we'd ever seen! It was an excellent way to close out our vacation."

"The ambiance is fabulous and we had a rock star table complete with a view of the sunset. Our meals were fabulous, featuring lots of local touches as well some great Pacific Rim flavors. I had the best Old Fashioned I've ever sipped and each of my daughters got specialty sodas to make their beverages special. The staff, generally, was very attentive and most helpful with the menu. My ONLY complaint about the entire experience is that I ordered my tenderloin medium to medium well -- it arrived rare. I ate the edges, hoping the waiter might return. By the time the bus boy came to pick up our plates -- as both of my daughters were through -- it was really too late to send back the tenderloin. That's really quite disappointing."

"Considering this resturant is in the St Regis, the most luxurious hotel on the island, my expectations were quite high. The resturant was very good but did not meet those expectatons, except for the view. The view is simply spectacular. Period. The food was good but not great for this resturant in a 5 star Starwood hotel. By contrast, we had dinner at the Westin Resort Villas (another Starwood hotel) about 2 miles away and I would rate that food as EXCELLENT. Service was good but again not great. Our server was a bit unrefined for this resturant and had some difficulty explaining how a dish was prepared. In summary, go for the view, the food is secondary."

"We requested a table by the window and got it!! We were seated in a private dining area which was spacious, quiet, and had a fabulous view. We realized just as dinner was being served that we forgot to order wine......we asked our server to get us a bottle and he was back with it before we had time to take the first bite!!! The food was fabulous and as described. Nice variety of food items to chose from which is sometimes hard to find in Fish centric HI. Our family said it was the best meal they had eaten in a restaurant in a very long time!!!"

"We celebrated our 40th anniversary at the Kauai Grill and it was just spectacular. We had a fabulous sunset view, our waiter was superb and the food was absolutely incredible. There were so many different tastes to savor and enjoy, something for both of us. We started with appetizers and finished with dessert and one course was better than the next. We were also happy that it wasn't a huge overwhelming amount of food. We both felt really good when we left. I would highly recommend the Kauai Grill to anyone who really wants a very special sensory treat."

"The waygu beef entrees were excellent. The Kauai shrimp appetizer was four tasty, but teeny tiny shrimp. The asparagus side was ridiculously small. Table service was disappointingly slow and inconsistent considering this is such a high end elegant restaurant. We had to ask for the bread/butter. We waited so long for the server to take our dessert order, we changed our mind. Lovely ambiance w/loud noise levels. The noise level made conversation difficult. Disappointing."

"Keeping in mind that it was Valentine's day and we expected that it would be more expensive than a regular day, we were quite shocked at the price of the meal. I should have gone on line and looked at the menu but because we had been to dinner at the hotel when it was Princeville hotel on Valentine's day, i didn't expect the price. Don't get me wrong...the service was great, the restaurant wonderful, the food was very good (altho a small amount). I would expected it to be around $70 per person max.
Because we were married in Kauai on Valentines day in 2008, we like to spend our anniversary there every few years, but we definitely won't be eating at the Kauai grill in the future."

"We went for our 30th wedding anniversary and were seated in a booth facing the ocean where whales were putting on a beautiful show. The service was amazing and the food fantastic. We splurged on the tasting menu and wine pairing, hey you only celebrate 30 years one time! The food and service were fantastic!"

"kauai grill has some of the best food on the island. its a foodies heaven.
the price fix menus is usually outstanding. The excellent wine pairings just take the culinary experience to the next level. service is always very good. unless you are a high roller ... like JLo..... its a special occasion spurge. but its definitely worth the splurge."

"Very good food though very expensive and not as good as other Jean-Georges restaurants. Kauai Grill is really about the view more than anything else so unless you are staying in the St. Regis, it may not be worth the trip if you are going after sunset. One disasspointing part was that my wife is a vegetarian so we went there for the vegetarian menu but as it turned out the actual vegetarian menu is much more limited that what's on the website, which is a bit of a misrepresentation. I ordered the Hamachi Sashimi and Local mahi mahi, which were not great but not outstanding relative to other places in Kauai and Maui."

"Outstanding restaurant with a can't beat view of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai and possibility (weather permitting) of a gorgeous sunset over the Na Pali cliffs. Outstanding in every way but not affordable for most; especially the wine. Ouch!"

"My wife and I enjoyed numerous meals on the island over a 3 week period, Kauai Grill was rumored to be an enjoyable fine dining experience in a relaxed environment. Though we had booked our reservation in advance, we were the only couple seated away from the windows overlooking the water. I inquired about making a substitution to my desired meal and was told without hesitation that the chef had a special interpretation regarding the presentation but that I could leave off the side and for an additional charge, add the other item. We agreed though my wife and I thought that the high prices didn't warrant any additional charges. The lobster I ordered was rather bland and my wife's meal was similarly uninspired. Very disappointed."

"We did the tasting menu. The flavors were layered and great albeit the short rib was a little overdone. Service was VERY personal and not overbearing although it seemed just a touch disorganized at times compared to other 5star restaurants. Overall a great dining experience that I would go back to."
