"Made a reservation for two about five days in advance thinking I would get a great table with a scenic view. Just be aware that there are a few bad tables. When making reservations next time put an emphasis on having a window view. Besides that my experience dinning at Jake's Del Mar was magnificent!"

"We had an 8:15 reservation, but had to wait a bit b/c of the Saturday night Father's Day crowd. Tho we asked for a window table, it would have been longer, so we opted elsewhere. Everything was great! Appetizers- Loved Calamari! except, the egg rolls weren't what we were expecting - a bit odd for our liking. Wouldn't order those again.
My filet was divine, loved the beet salad and everyone else's was just as good.
Best part of course was the Hula Pie!!! All 7 of us shared this and totally satisfied in the end! Will be back - maybe try lunch next time.

"Only valet parking on my arrival. Very noisy and busy. Food was good, but somewhat expensive for small portions. The wait staff looks and acts like they are reality show stars. In my opinion, you can find a much better dining experience, minus the ocean view."

"We dined at Jake's to celebrate a good friend's birthday and had a wonderful time. Thanks to our server, Greg, the evening was perfect, from the first sip of our martinis until the last bite of hula pie. Two of us ordered the halibut special served with a miso wasabi sauce and this was the best halibut I have ever had, moist, tender, and cooked to perfection. The Steak and Lobster ordered by our birthday guest was also excellent. Yes, Jake's is busy and a bit touristy (we had to wait 15 minutes for a window table even with reservations), but the food and service we experienced were both outstanding."

We had wonderful ocean view seating and the view, even on a gray day, was splendid. "Jake's was recommended to us as a restaurant to try while in the San Diego area and it did not disappoint. The location right on the beach in Del Mark is phenomenal. We tried all seafood and loved every bite - from the scallops to the sea bass to the salmon - they were all prepared well and so delicious - as well as the sides they came with. Dessert was a perfect end to the evening with salted caramel creme brulee . . . so good! We had a reservation, but had to wait a few minutes for the table, which we didn't mind. However, the manager made sure that we were well taken care of and as a result we will definitely make this a destination spot when we come back to the area."

"We were very disappointing in our recent lunch at Jakes. The food was mediocre at best and while the waitress was friendly, the service was terrible. My son ordered sea bass and the portion was miniscule. Bread arrived with lunch instead of before. The waitress did not refresh drinks. I finally asked for a refreshed drink. It arrived well after our meal. I live in Del Mar and have enjoyed Jakes for years. I recommend it for tourists who want a great view but don't care about the food."

"One key thing... The place is right on the beach. Came here with my girl for sat afternoon happy hour. I made a reservation though it was not needed the bar area was empty so we told the girl we would sit at the bar. Bar tender was very cool and did not charge anything we ordered till happy hour started (20min) HH calamari is good. Then we moved from the bar to the little tables behind the bar counter and ordered food. Server was okay. Ordered the steak and wedge (hh$11) and a burger(hh$9) steak was good wedge had wrong dressing on it. Not bad but food could have been a little better. I would not eat here during regular time cause its a little pricey. Btw happy hour menu is pretty small so don't be shocked overall 3.5 stars... Location #1"

"The change in menu has not proven positive for me. Previous offerings were more to my taste. Some items removed from the menu make it less flexible. For example, the old menu offered a salad topped with a fish of the day (lighter fare) - no longer. And the traditional caesar salad is long gone. The vegetarian plate was really awful and the table next to our returned their steak to the kitchen. Moreover, prices have substantially increased."

"I go to Jake's whenever I’m in North San Diego County. The scenic location right on the beach is a comfortable backdrop for dinner for business or pleasure and the food is consistently great. "This is one of our go-to places for lunch and we've never had a bad meal here. Our first time since the interior remodel and a few menu changes. I've always though this place was great, now even better. The Chef's Plate appetizer has some new choices and is a much better selection than the old. I had the Seafood Trio, shrimp, scallop, fish, and it was very good, though I must say it was the mango chutney that won my heart. Service was very, very good, You just can't beat the ocean front view and though we lingered for quite some time over wine and coffee, we never felt rushed by staff to clear out table. I love this place."

"Jake's is one of the restaurants in the neighborhood where we often entertain out of town guests or celebrate a special occasion. It has a great selection of excellent menu choices and a superb view of the Pacific Ocean from essentially every table. I have never had a main course at Jake's I didn't enjoy and I am also very fond of trying their "Soup of the Day," which is always delicious.
Service is very good with their main challenge being the inevitable logistics of handling a large crowd of diners, even on very ordinary weekday evenings. Reservations are highly recommended to help reduce wait times. Parking near the coast in Del Mar is always an issue but valet parking is available when nearby public parking slots can't be found."

"If you love a beautiful view (surfing, beautiful beach scene), good food and service and don't mind a little hassle with crowds and noise - this is a great, fun restaurant! Valet park (otherwise parking can be a challenge) and be sure to make reservations. Went for brunch and everyone enjoyed their meals (stuffed French toast, hash, torta)...their breakfast potatoes are amazing! Unfortunately, they ran out of their lemon ricotta pancakes - that'll be for my next visit!"

"How can a restaurant be out of pancakes at 10:40 in the morning when they open at 10am? Not to mention, they only have a few items on the menu!!! I could have gone in the kitchen and whipped up a batch of batter in 10 minutes."

"I requested out on the porch for my 88 year old handicap mother. Jake's made no effort to accommodate us. Don't go on the weekends). They are too busy, service slow and hamburger over cooked."

"The only reason we did not leave after 15 min. of sitting with no attention from anyone was because we were seated by the window with a great view of the beach. My daughter-in-law and I both had to make secondary selections(apparenlty the pancakes and the crab omelette were big hits and the kitchen didn't plan for this). I felt bad that I had picked this restaurant for our delayed "Mother's Day" celebration(I don't get to see my son and daughter-in-law very often so the time I do spend with them I like it to be special)."
