"Dining under the awning on the Plouf patio reminded me of similar experiences in France. The metal patio furniture was a bit awkward at first (subtracted a star from ambience), but we settled in and had a great time. The waiter made excellent wine suggestions. The baguette was a little chewy but as soon as we commented, the waiter had it heated to crisp perfection. I started with the Poulette Mussels, and the serving size was easily large enough for a full meal. Then I had the duck breast with cabbage and potatoes, which was fabulous. My mousse was decadently delicious. Plouf is a must for any fan of French bistro food."

"Searched the internet for a business lunch location in the Bush & Montgomery area and found several restaurants in the alley of Belden Place off Bush Street. Plouf proved to be the right choice for us. Slightly more upscale decor relative to it's neighboring restaurants. I found the area to be fun and will definitely go back. We sat inside for a more business-like experience. Superb service. Formal, attentive but not overwhelming and lots of personality. The whole staff made us feel like it was their pleasure to serve us. I felt like a welcomed guest. Food was good too."

"Plouf is my favorite French restaurant in San Francisco. I always bring people here. The Pate was superb. The orange roughy in a light orange essence sauce was so light and truly heavenly. I finished it off with chocolate mousse. Thank goodness we were walking."

"The mussels were fabulous, as was the salmon. My only complaint was how long it took to get our food. We were there for more than an hour and half - not because we were lingering but because it took so long for the food to come. There was a very long wait to get our appetizers and an equally long wait after the appetizers to get our main courses. Given that there are so many business people having lunch there, I would have thought the timing would be more tailored to a business lunch crowd."

"We love this place. The area where it is, is like being back in Europe on a nice spring evening. We especially enjoy the Moules with a side of Frittes and of course bread to dip with too. Enjoy a nice bottle of Pinot from France and you could be in a small French village. Have eaten there many times, but would particularly recommend the above."

"Stay with the mussels. Pasta was ok. Thin house made fettucine, tiny portion and extremely oily. More of an appetizer portion than entree. The top portion was tasty but the mid and lower section of the pasta had a thick oily consistency and lacked seasoning. It was not appetizing towards the end but I couldn't leave it at $22 for the entree. Also, seeing the oil left on plate, ugh."

"Plouf is one of my standbys and it is always just fine, although never as good as it should be. This time, the salad was way overdressed (and I like dressing) and the fries were broken up and a little soggy. The mussels always are the star of the meal and the Provençal were rich with tomato and crisp garlic, plus more garlic in the broth. You will feel as though you are in France, especially if you sit outside, and that alone is worth the (relatively high) price to me. The serving sizes are large and Plouf no longer lets you take leftover mussels home (apparently a tourist ate them after they had been sitting in their hotel room and sued? this is one of several stories I have been told by wait staff over the past few months!)"

"Have been to Plouf many times and each time I visit, whether for lunch, dinner or drinks, I appreciate how the restaurant has maintained its level of friendly, helpful service and wonderful food through all these years. On a cool evening we sat outside under heaters and slurped down appetizers then, mussels in a heavenly marinere broth with frites and wine for our main course. Yum!"

"We had an unpleasant time at plouf - beginning with the greeter who despite our being timely for our reservation and tables indoors being available, refused to seat us for ten minutes. We ordered mussels and nealy one-quarter of the mussels would not open. When this was raised with our waiter, he refused to rectify the situation and instead stated it was to be expected that some would not open and that is why they give one a large portion! The mussels were only satisfactory in taste (when they were opened). In addition, service was rushed so that our table could be made available within an hour of our arrival. All in all, a most unsatisfactory experience."

"I have often dined at Plouf, when in the mood for great mussels and frites. Although, their other seafood is also great. Located in Beldon Place, it is like a little bit of Europe tucked away in the financial district."

"My friend and I went there for her birthday dinner and had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks. It was very warm that Friday night and we sat outside without coats on. Everyone who sat around us was lots of fun also. I had the whole crab which is in season so it was excellent. The desserts were wonderful also."

"The food was very good BUT, perhaps because it was Valentines day, the service was terribly slow. I had made reservations yet there was no table for us and we had to wait 15 or 20 minutes. The waitstaff and the management were unapologetic. I ws expecting a romantic Valentines dinner and it was anything but romantic. I doubt that I will be enthusiastic about returning.The one plus was when I called needing to change my reservations from 7:30 to 8:00, they did so with ease. I thyank them for that"

"Plouf is one of our SF favorites that we hit every visit. Great outdoor dining in a street cafe setting. I cant comment on anything but the mess els, because that is all we get. Great for an afternoon meal or sharing with a cocktail. After hitting SF's fine dining several nights, this is a great, casual spot."

"During our Saturday night dinner we enjoyed oysters, tuna tartare and artichokes for appetizers. Our main courses were the Salmon and Sea Bass and the Crepe for dessert. Love Belden Place and the atmosphere - a little loud but very happening. The food was very good but our waiter was continuously trying to upsell which upset a member of our party. He was quite inisistent that the wine we ordered was not good (you've got to ask why it was on the menu then?) and was really not happy when two of our party wanted to split the Sea Bass (which after the appetizers worked out perfectly for them). Overall, the waiter turned what could have been a good or outstanding meal into a low fair."

"Dinner was great, service started great but dropped off dramatically. Our server left us waiting for 1/2 hour waiting for our check (completely cleared table). I tried to flag her down several times but she either ignored me or is blind."
