"The hostesses were terrible -- my friend came and gave them my name but was seated separately and it took us 20 min to discover each other. The waiter (Mostafa) was extremely good and recommended a good dish (the ravioli in white cream sauce). Gets a little loud at 8PM, but what New York restaurant isn't."

"I think this restaurant is good value and good quality food. Salads were very good. The filet of sole, delicious. Some dishes better than others, but it was a comfortable atmosphere and overall very enjoyable. If you go early for dinner it is nice and quiet, but prime time can be noisy"

"We were drawn to this place after seeing the Executive Chef on "Chopped". His food looked incredible. Well he has since moved on, but the menu still reflects his influence and will not disappoint. It has become one of our favorites and in this city, that says a lot."

"Arte Cafe is convenient to me and the food is good (or better) but the service was really off. Our server was enthusiastic and pleasant. But after 45 minutes, we noticed folks coming in well affter us were receiving their orders. We learned our order had not even been placed, somehow forgotten by our server. It took well over an hour for a simple brunch to be served. I want to like the place but it was hot in the dining room and the sound levels were deafening too. I could barely hear my companion seated across the table. I think it'll be a long time before I head back."

"We came early & the hostess was very accommodating. We were seated right away, but it was downhill from there. Our waiter took forever. He finally took my cocktail order plus our dinner order. I asked to keep the wine list since we'd be having something later. My drink was delivered in about 10 minutes. Immediately after, our salads came. No time to enjoy my drink. The Caesar Salad was good, but a little heavy on the dressing. The fried zucchini was scrumptious. I looked for our waiter to order some wine with no luck. Our pasta came & went before we saw him again. Once the wine was ordered, it never came. I had to have a busboy get our waiter. Even the check was wrong (dbl charge for the salad). Next time I'll eat at the bar."

"Located in the basement level of an Upper West Side brownstone, the Arte Cafe is the kind of restaurant you want in your own neighborhood. The fried calamari was the best we've ever tasted, the two pasta entrees (ravioli and orecchiette) were wonderfully prepared and the lemon creme brulee ensured happy dreams that night! I thought the service was a little slow considering that it really wasn't busy at all until we were on dessert. If you're staying in New York, make the trip to the Upper West Side and try this place!"

"There were 5 of us at this establishment. I read some of the reviews which were average. My orchietta pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage was a bit dry. I also didn't expect it in a red sauce. Would have been better with garlic and oil. The salad and baked clams were great as an appetizer. Besides that, the rest of my group had pizzas which they said were good. The waiter never asked if we needed anything nor did he ask how our food was. He was quite unfriendly and had nothing to say to us at all. The service seems to be the biggest complaint. Overall the price is right for the neighborhood, food is good and atmosphere is quite nice. There's a possibility of me going back, but not anytime in the near future."

"This was our third time here. Haven't been in a while, and i remembered why after this dinner. I Ordered the Ceaser Salad, the romaine had lots of brown on it. While the waiter was nice, he did not offer any fresh pepper after delivering the salad, and when we realized we wanted some we could not find the waiter anywhere! Another person in our party ordered the fried calamari, sadly it was overcooked or just not good, it was rubbery."

"Place has a very festive air -- brick wall, crowded but tables aren't jammed together, nice lighting, good buzz but not unpleasantly noisy. "We arrived just before 5:30 reservation for 8 and had to wait for a table. While the quality of the food was good and price was average, the portions were a bit small. The service was mediocre given that the restaurant was not busy when we arrived. We ordered 4 salads and each was better than the next. However, we had to flag down the waiter to ask for salad plates and lemon for a dish that was advertised as lemon brazino that had no lemon in it; the stuffed chicken was tasteless. While the waiter was polite, he seemed somewhat distracted and uninterested. It would not be our first pick next time."

"Absolutely one of the worst dining experiences of the last ten years. Service was abominable. Food was atrocious. They literally threw the dried-out bread on the tale before we sat down. The crab salad was gooey and tasteless, and served on a bed of sliced strawberries and orange slices. Yuck! The pasta was cold, the mussels overcooked. The scallops were marinated in something that made them bitter to the taste, and they were served on a bed of chocolate. That's right, chocolate with scallops. Arrrggghh! And the dessert, which was supposed to be "tiramisu," or "pick-me-up" was dreadful. Someone should send them the recipe for tiramisu. To top it all off, one of the waiters, standing nearby, started screaming out loud about his "lousy tip.""

"I went to ArteCafe for the New Year's Eve.I'm italian and i thought it could be a good idea to eat a traditional meal for the last day of the year.Well, it wasn't.We chose the prix fix menu for 60$,which included4courses.The lobster bisque was disappointing.It was too salted and too cold.The2nd course was even worst.The"Spaghetti with shrimps"were really cold and not good,they were overcooked and I found a total of TWO shrimps.My boyfriend chose the"Ravioli with cotechino"and I thought they were kidding him.They served him THREE almost invisible ravioli.3rd course, "capesante with porcini".Nothing special.And the dessert wasn't special either.It should have been"tiramisu alle fragole"but it wasn't a tiramisu at all..Really a bad experience."

"This was our second visit to Arte Cafe, and it was even better than the first. The minestrone soup, a special off the menu this evening, was a delicious and hearty starter. "Hadn't been to Arte Cafe for quite a while, but was very pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was very accomodating and helpful even while we had little kids with us. No kids menu but they split an order of pasta for us. My short ribs were delicious and tender and the pasta was great. Prices have gone up a bit but this is still an affordable neighborhood restaurant."

"Arte is a solid dependable. The maitre'D, a young lady named Lilian was cheerful amusing and got things off to a very nice start. While there are too few wait staff, and he was rather dour. You can rely on the kitchen to produce a good dinner quickly. We were there prior to a concert and from past experience know that food will be prompt without needing to ask. The atmosphere is open and spacious. Other than being bid "adieu" on our way out by Lilian the above mentioned Maitre'D, our interaction with the staff was minimal. A solid dependable that presents good value with a smile on the way in and out."

"I was disappointed with our experience. Our server was apathetic at best. I received the wrong salad and had to wait 5 more minutes for a new one with no apology or explanantion. Our appetizer of fried calamari was just terrible - tough with breading that was actually hard. Our salad and appetizer plates sat and sat until our entrees arrived, then the runner who delivered our entress seemed annoyed at us that they hadn't been cleared! The pasta in our entrees was tasty but the chicken was tough in my companion's. We opted against dessert just to get out of there. The restaurant was quite noisy, which is fine for a family meal but it would not suit a couple looking for a quiet meal."

"Thanksgiving is always well-served at Arte Cafe. The food was imaginative and tasted wonderful. The room is beautiful decorated in Roman/Tuscan style with photos from Roman Holiday hung on the walls. The service on Thanksgiving was also spectacular. "I went there for thankgiving dinner, and it was absolutly amazing! The food was really really good, the service was great, the prices were great, and the wine specials was also very reasonable. I really have never had turkey that tasted so good! The first course was a soup or salad, the second was a really tasty lasagna, the third plate was turkey, stuffing, mashed potatos, gravey, and cranberry sauce on the side. At this point I was stuffedd, and they told me that I could also have a complimentary seond plate! Unfortunatly I had absolutly no room left so I had to decline. After all that food we each also got a tiramisu which was again amazing! If you are planning to go somewhere that is serving great, top of the line food.. go to Arte Cafe"

"I've been coming to this neighborhood restaurant for many years and it is consistently getting worse. Although the food is relatively good, the kitchen cannot handle busy nights resulting in often hour-long waits for food, the service is fair at best, and the noise level is extremely unpleasant. Do not come here on a Saturday night, as you won't be able to hear your guests or your servers, much less carry on a conversation. The wood-burning brick oven that used to be near the bar is also gone, replaced with more tables and less ambience. I won't go back anytime soon, even though I've been a very loyal customer of this establishment for years."

"I went on a preset Thanksgiving dinner and they were not nice at all. I do understand that it was a holiday and most would not want to be working but do not ruin mine. Me and my three guests were hurried through dinner and basically thrown our "4 course" meal.
