"We had a visitor in from our London office and wanted to take her out, while allowing her to enjoy some fresh air and take in the downtown Chicago scenary. Rivers fit the bill. Everyone loved their dinners and drinks, and it was a perfect night for outdoor dining."

"WIth no time constraint, the slowness of the drink and food ultimately was not an issue at all, but it may have been for someone else without that flexibility. The food was delicious and the chocolate martini for dessert was a hit. Our server was personable and apologetic for the slowness citing staffing shortages as the problem.

We would return without hesitation, but would probably not choose there if we were in a hurry."

"We went for dinner before going to the Lyric Opera. Service was good, but the food took way too long to come out. The food, itself, was disappointing. I ordered the Risotto and it came out luke warm. It was not prepared very well, either. The presentation was also not appetizing.

This is probably a good place to come for drinks and maybe apps, but I would not return for the food."

"I was looking for a nice place for my friend and I to have dinner on a Saturday night. Our reservation was at 7:30 and when we arrived I was shocked at how empty the place was. Not sure why that is, possibly because they are located inside the Mercantile Exchange building. None the less, the outdoor seating is very nice, right on the river. The food and service was very good, no complaints. It was a nice change to go somewhere that was is quiet and we could talk and actually hear each other!"

"The only issue was the steak knives NOT sharp enough. The steaks were very good-however they knives would have made the meal better. Otherwise everyobne else said "fantastic" we had 10 in our group before the play at the Opera! Great Location also!"

"We have been to Rivers three times before the Lyric. The food is consistenly delicious. It is not a location or ambience that I would choose other than going to the Lyric, but I always love the part of the experience! The bonus is...if it's a nice evening you can dine outdoors on the river."

"We return to The Rivers several times a year, usually before attending a Lyric Opera performance. Our request for a quiet table is always honored, the food is excellent, and the service is prompt, discreet, and knowledgeable. We never feel rushed. While the area around the bar is a little noisy, the main eating area is quiet with an attractive decor. It is always a very good dining experience."

"Went before seeing Oklahoma at the Civic Opera House, wait staff was attentive to timing and need to be in and out in a timely manner. Crab cakes tasted of crab and were light, the seafood stew had great pieces of lobster, whole large shrimp and great hot spice. We find Rivers to be reliable for a great meal and inviting atmosphere."

"I brought friends who had not eaten there before (I had) and they all said their food was excellent and would certainly want to come again. The service was friendly and prompt without being intrusive on our conversation, which is very important to me. The menu had such good choices it was difficult to decide but we each thought our own decision was the best one, so everyone was more than satisfied. It had been a few years since I ate at Rivers, and I was hoping it would still be good. It was better than i remembered and I/we will absolutely be coming again. Our train was late arriving and when I called the restaurant to explain, they said that they would mark the reservation, and hold the table for us - excellent!!"

"We were arriving by Park District bus trip and ended running late for our reservation. Called Rivers and told them we would be late - they held the reservation for us, even tho the restaurant was full. Served us quickly. We have time for a. Ice lunch and got to the theater in plenty of time for the play. We were very pleased with the service. We would not hesitate to eat there again."

"First time at this restaurant! The location is awesome the food was very tasty and the service was excellent. Park in the garage after 5pm on Madison and west side of Wacker Drive for free for 2 hours. You will see an attendant that will guide you where to park. Will definitely return."

"My Husband and I are big fish eaters. Halibut, which is one of our favorites, was on the special list for the night, so we ordered it. If memory serves me right, it was layered with diced red potatoes, fresh spinach, finshed with a very light lemon sauce. Outside of the Halibut had a bit of crunch to it, like they had quickly pan seared it. We have eaten good fish at Rivers before, but this was fabulous!

Also, we were 40 minutes late for our reservation, due to traffic, and I called ahead to let them know. The place was full inside and out, they held our table! Service was fast enough to get us to the show we were seeing. Will go back!

Can't beat the 2 hour free parking, when validated by restaurant."

"This is a convenient restaurant to the Opera house and as such is to be lauded for those who like to dine and go to the theatre. That being said , the crowds is overwhelming and one has to shout to be heard over the noise. Getting a seat on the Terrace in fine weather is the solution. The noise would prevent our returning. The location is the reason to return when attending the Lyric."

"We had a Groupon to try Rivers, so we made reservations here for a date night. We hopped the train and walked just a few blocks to Rivers. It's located perfectly between both train stations, so it was a easy trip to the restaurant. We got there 15 min before our reservation, and they were able to seat us immediately. Beer (flight) was small (3 shot glasses worth), but we ended up finding a beer we each wanted a full pint of to drink. The appetizers were GREAT! Shrimp Bruchetta was really nice - different, flavorful, filling. The calamari was a little greasy, but overall good (dipping sauces were tasty). A tad expensive (bill was $60 for 2 flights, 2 pints, 2 appetizers) even with the Groupon. But it made for a fun date night!"

"Delicious scallops, lobster bisque and risotto. Good bread and herb butter. So-so desserts. Up-close view of the Chicago River south branch if you request a river-view table. Likely it's even better after the weather's warmer and the patio is open.

Frustrating handout describing a salad and three entress, but with no prices! The waitress had to check on this, and came back to report that the prices were the same as on the regular menu. What's the point? The Maker's Mark whiskey sour had a puzzling taste---not exactly sweet-sour."

"Very low-key place for dinner on a weekend. It felt like an escape from the big city! Relaxing, classic American standards on the soundtrack, dim lighting, great river view and delicious food. The food isn't inspiring or inventive; it's solid American (Chicago) cuisine. The salmon is delicious, we both ordered it. The bread pudding dessert was also super yummy. Skip the crab cakes, they tasted frozen. Opt instead for the spicy tomato soup."
