Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. And when we say large, we mean large. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. If you are in the market for better than average family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

"Seating was ok with a reservation - was warned of large portion size and advised to share one meal for a couple - found this was not really true as we left hungry after sharing an appetizer and one meal and we are not big eaters. Also price was very high for what we ordered - I will not go there again."

"Great Food selection
Great tasting food
Drinks were fantastic
I did feel rushed by the waiters,, the waiters were too anxious to take the plates and bring the next course, we had to ask for water and butter for the bread, If I didn't make room for the plates they would have just been pushed on the table. The waiter had a bit of a attitude. his quote was " Do you want to hear the specials or not!".
He couldnt wait to get the food on the table and leave..
other than him , everything was great."

"Food was good. Similar to a Bucca's if you know what that is. If you reserve a table here and you want to people watch request a table upstairs since that dining room is off the Tropicana's Casino/live entertainment area. The downstairs is very quiet and a bit boring for a fun might out."

"We ran a little late and Carmine's cancelled our reservation without reaching out to us, even thought we were asked to provide a reach number. Not sure why they take the number is they are not going to use it. When we reached Carmines unknown to use the reservation was cancelled, the hostess was extremely rude and unhelpful, boarding on belligerent. They would not seat us and told us the wait was at least 60 minutes. We walked next store to Red Square and had a fantastic meal with outstanding service!"

"This was our first experience eating at Carmines and having family style dining in an Italian Restaurant. The waitress was very friendly and explained how it works and made accurate decisions on how many different plates or selections we would need for the 4 of us to be happy but not be overstuffed. We had the perfect amount of time between selections to enjoy everything and not feel like we were being rushed from course to course. The salad was fabulous and was served to us to start since we probably looked overwhelmed with its massive size. We did enjoy it! I like how they replace the plates for every course too. We enjoyed our main dinner of course and finished everything! It was my birthday so staff sang w/dessert-fabulous!"

"Had a great time at Carmine's. We were even running late due to traffic and our reservations were for 8:00 and we didn't get there until almost 8:30 and it was not a problem, they sat us right away. "Carmine's AC during this past weekend was packed. Advanced reservation was needed to secure seating at optimum times. "Couldn't ask for more! We made reservation for a party of 7 and ended up with 11 guests. It was an event filled weekend and the hotels were full to capacity yet we were able to be seated on time. "The food was excellent and the service was a bit slow but ok. The only thing that was almost unbearable was the noise level. We sat downstairs and there was a table of 16 guys celebrating and another table of 12 women celebrating and it was REALLY loud, so we couldn't even hear each other talk. Of course the food was so good that we put up with it. We have eaten there before and it is always very noise, so don't go there if you expect to have meaningful conversation, but do go there if you just want a good meal."

"Not good in every way. Could have just been a bad night because I have been to NYC locations numerous times, however the service was terrible, waitress took forever to come to the table and get a drink order. We ordered appetizers first so we can eat while we decide and they forgot appetizer and then finally brought it two minutes before our meal came out. All of the food was extremely salty. I wouldn't go back to this location."

"Our party of 9 had 730 pm reservations on 2/27/10. We were seated promptly. The restaurant was ridiculously loud and made any conversation nearly impossible. It seemed more sports bar than restaurant.

Service was extremely slow. Our drink order took nearly 25 minutes to come out, and a specialty salad took 40 minutes.

Our dinner order took over an hour to be brought out and some of the dishes were lukewarm. The table wasn't properly cleared before the entrees were served. I felt that the portion size of the veal dish I ordered was very small; certainly not enough to feed 4-6 people family style as advertised. A seafood pasta dish could have used more seafood.

Dessert was okay although the coffee was lukewarm also.

"My family (party of 10) went to Carmine's to celebrate my mother's birthday. Our group consisted of 3 highchairs and 7 adults. All of us were new to the family style dining experience. "Valentine's weekend in AC with my wife...I'm glad we made reservations at Carmine's.

The dimly lit area where we dined was romantic. Our waiter Mark was extremely pleasant. Even though we had been there previously, he took his time to explain the family style menu. He even recommended a great bottle of affordable wine to compliment our meal.

We ordered the seafood combo plate with red sauce and it was absolutely incredible. All the seafood was cooked perfectly to mesh with the al dente linguine. The only problem was we didn't leave any room for dessert.

As a repeat customer to Carmine's I definitely recommend going to eat with at least 2-3 couples so you could enjoy more than 1 family style entree."

"The waiter staff is very experienced and friendly: they know how to make your visit special. "The food was amazing! We got seated right away, which was great! The only thing that wasn't too great was our server. I am not sure why but he made comments as we ordering our food. For example we were a group of 6 females, and we ordered a big salad and calamari for app's then order a pasta. When we orderd the pasta he said wow that should really be enough ni a tone that applied we ate alot! He also took a very long time to come check on us to see if we were enjoyin the meal. Even though he was not the a good waiter, the group of girls would go back for the food and atmosphere."

"We went to Carmines on Feb 18, 2010 at 7pm. We were celebrating our 5th anniversary. I requested a more private, quite table and was given a perfect table for 2 in a corner and in a smaller room off the main dining room. The server was very friendly and attentive, always refilling drinks and asking if we needed anything. The food, as always, was amazing! And portion huge! There were alot of families with smaller children there but I think that was due to early hour we dined."

"I took my girlfriend and three of her friends to Carmines for her 21st birthday and we had a great time. We did not have any wine but they did have a wine list but we did use the full bar that they have. We ordered rigattoni and broccoli with the white sauce.I dont know exactly what they put in it but it was a very good dish. We also had the chicken parmesan and that was very good as well.I would reccomend this to anyone."

"Carmine's was just okay. It's not a special location, given that it's connected to a Casino and among a group of other very commercialized restaurants, which really detracts from the ambience. The food was okay, but quite greasy. The service was excellent. If you don't want to look for the really nice restaurants in AC and would like to stick near a major casino hub, then I suppose Carmine's would be a decent choice of a restaurant. The portion sizes are huge here. Even a lunch portion size could be split between two people -- seriously, don't make the mistake of ordering even two "lunch" dishes for two people. I can't even imagine how big the "family style" dish meant to serve two people must be. The service was very good."

"Good food served family style. Lots of food provide a good amount of leftovers. Pans in one of our two doggie bags fell through the bag bottom about 10 steps outside the restaurant (somehow it must have been wet when they brought it out to us as nothing in the bag had leaked).
Service courteous but not great as they never refilled water glasses.
Was only given a choice of 2:30, 3:30, or 8:30 on a winter Sunday for OpenTable reservations but the restaurant was only half full later on at 4:30-5:00. What's up with that?"

"Our party of four shared the Carmine's salad and the prime rib special. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, spinich, and an out of this world mushroom (wine) gravy. "We've been to this same restaurant before and found the food fantastic and the portions very generous. This last experience was extremely disappointing. "We were a party of 5. Food was very good, service was very good/very friendly, drinks were good but very expensive ($13 for martini), but the noise level was too much....we had a very hard time talking/hearing one another. I guess the hardwood floors, open space, etc contributed to that. We also were seated by the kitchen doors, so the atmosphere was not desirable. If we go back, I will DEFINITELY request the front of the restaurant....otherwise, it's not worth the time or money!!!"

"We are frequent vistors of Carmines in AC. About 3-4 times a year with mostly family members. Unfortunately after having dinner my youngest son got food posioning and had to be rush to Shore Mermorial Hospital at around 12:00am and stayed to around 2:30am were they gave him pain medicine to control the stomach pains. We beleive it may have been a bad clam. The next day my wife called Carmines to politely inform them what had happen and for them to note that if anyone else has called them that they should be aware what had happen. My wife talked Carlos and informed him what had happen. Carlos suggested that it could not be food posining because in his words food posioning takes 12 hours. He needs to look on internet which states 30 minutes"

"my husband and I made last minute reservations for the New Year! The place was very busy but the staff at Carmine's were very efficient and had us seated within 10 minutes of checking in. The Food was excellant. We had the nightly special the Clam Bake - 2 lobsters, muscles, clams roasted veggies all for $55 dollars. a real bargain for a family style restaurant! Ordering the sides gets expensive when there are only 2 diners. We had a table with a view of the street below and had a wonderful evening! I would definitely recommend!"

"I am a fan of Carmine's in Atlantic City and New York City, never had a problem and always enjoyed the food. This year on New Year's Eve I was disappointed. First, I made my reservation several weeks in advance and expected to get good seating. They put us downstairs, which is a little less formal next to a door I didn't like that. Second, we sat at our table for 17 minutes before anyone came over to take our drink order, we had to get a manager to get things rolling. Our waitress never told us the specials, we overheard a waiter telling his table next to us. The food was excellent as usual and there was plenty of it. I will probably go back, in fact I have reservations in NYC in February. I hope the service in NYC hasn't declined"

"Let me first say that my husband and are Italian/Amerian's and we know good italian food.

Ok then:

While the service and the ambiance was wonderful,the hot antipasto was the worse we ever had and the main veal dish was just fair. The Carmines in A/C is a far, far cry from the Carmines in New York. Quite frankly, the food in the A/C location was no better than what you would get in a local pizzeria. We were very, very disappointed. We would never recommend this restuarant to anyone who asked. In fact my husband even told me that he is going to call the Carmines in New York and tell them how the Carmines in New Jersey is really ruining its New York longstanding reputation as a premiere restuarant.

"The food at Carmine's was very good and plentiful. I feel that the only one negative regarding the experience was the fact that they chrge an additional $12.50 for pasta with a parmesan dish. I realize that that has enough for 2 people, but I feel that is trather high for pasta. Otherwise the cost of the actual meal is very reasonable considering the portion size."

"I thought the food was OK. We ordered shrimp cocktail which had a funny taste and they were extremely large shrimp, too meaty for shrimp. The chicken parm was good but not moist and there was not enough gravy on the chicken or penne. I also think that it was pricy for the quality. Maybe we will give it another try when we return. I like to try all of Trop's restaurants but I don't know if I will give it another shot."

"We enjoyed our dinner very much. Portions are too big for one person - so a couple would have to share the same meal - which is good if you can both decide on the same thing. I think if smaller plates were offered, in addition to family style, that would be better for couples. Also the menu is painted on the wall - which is fine - unless you don't have perfect vision - we were finally given a hand-held menu - but had to ask. I suggest asking people as they are seated if the hand-held menu would be better for them. The food, ambiance and service was very good."

"This is a really great place. A little hard to get into, but for a reason. The food is served "family style", so it is better for larger (3 or more) groups. "Abundance of delicious food! We ordered the hot antipasto and were delighted to have been able to taste a variety of foods. We were just two people and couldn't even finish it. "Our family of four read the recommendations about Carmines in AC and the overabundance of food. We made a reservation for Christmas Eve and were called to our table about 5-10 minutes late of our reservation. The restaurant was full with patrons. The holiday decorations made the restaurant look especially pretty. The waiter told us the menu was posted on the walls of the restaurant, but our view was far from the wall so it was difficult to read (you should look at the menu online ahead of time to know what you want to order). We were recommended that one entree and one pasta would easily serve four, so that is what we did. The chicken parmasiagne was delicious but not filling nor enough for four. Overall, very good!"

"We had a reservation;however, we did show up a little earlier. They seated us, but the table was under the menu which hangs on the wall. It was difficult to read without standing up and being in the way of the waiters and other passing customers. The eggplant was delicious but could have been heated much more. "The food at Carmines is always fanatastic. They had a lunch menu which offered great choice as well as their standard menu. Eveything we had was great! However, the service was not as expected. The waiter was preoccupied. He took a long time in between checking on us. Then he disappeared all together without a word. Another person took over. Said something about he will be our new waiter to bring us the check.??? Very strange. We also ordered some food to go. The original waiter never put the order in. When we went to pay the check the "New" waiter said the order was never put in. We were very disappointed to say the least. I have always had a great experience at Carmines but the dining expereince this time was disappointing."

"Atmosphere and food were wonderful. They serve family style, so It's not really a good choice a couple. The portions are enormous, each order can feed 4-6 people and are expensive. Not overly expensive, but priced for a serving of 4-6 people not a serving of 1 or 2. So we had a great dinner, and had a lot of leftovers to take home. I would definitely go there again, but only with a larger group of people."

"Our server Jason was very attentive and pleasant. We didn't have to go out of our way to reach him if we needed something as he was always present. Our hot appetizer sampler was very tasty and the rigatoni bolognese was cooked to perfection. Our main dish the Porterhouse Pizziola was cooked as requested med-well. There was so much food to take home as there were only 3 of us. My lunch guests took home enough food for at least one meal for the both of them. No room for dessert, just espresso. Overall, family-style portions are a good value for the wallet."
