"Zama is an experience that I will not soon forget. As a sushi lover from CA I've struggled to find incredible quality in Philadelphia, but Zama ranks at the top of my list. Out of everything we ordered, I highly recommend the tempura appetizer and the Bibou roll. Both complimented the meal and provided flavors that were unique and enjoyable. The ambiance and service were also too notch."

"While the fish was fresh, we felt like it was extremely high-priced for the portions. In addition, the waiter was pretentious and a little full of himself. Not what we expect of a nice evening out."

"The sushi was good. I like the small size bite sushi which reminds me of Japan. Our waitress was super friendly but super slow. It shockingly took 1 hour and 45 mins. to get our main course."

"Zama and Morimoto are our two favorite sushi spots in the city. Neither will disappoint. Zama always has interesting specials and a great sashimi platter. My only complaint is they keep marking up the bottle prices of their sake. They need a reasonably priced bottle on their sake list."

"Zama was very disappointing. The food was good, but the service was very slow and inattentive. The tables were situated too close together and it was difficult to hear my eating partner over the roar and the conversations taking place right next to us. For the price I expected so much more."

"Delicious as usual. I enjoyed the crudo, multiple rolls including the bronzizzle and the crispy black cod(yum!). I also love the lychee fizz cocktail while my fiancee had his usual sake. We'll be back of course:)"

"Went here for a 'girls date night' with a friend & it was a good pick! Indulged in fun drinks - cucumber and pear-ginger saketinis are delish! - and in some of the night's specials. Food was great - especially loved the Hamachi Ponzu (yellowtail sashimi with soy pickled jalapeno and ponzu sauce) and tuna oro sushi. Everything was yummy and tasted really fresh. Would definitely recommend."

"Though we have dined at Zama many times, we continue to delight in, and respect, the same strengths: the imaginative menu, with its regular offerings, specials, and experiments; the exceptional quality of the ingredients and preparation; the presentation; and hardly least of all, the attentive and intelligent service. There is an offering for every palate and mood. The interior, with its bold Japanizing fish motif and natural materials, gives as much aesthetic pleasure as it relaxes. Any overall hubbub is usually just convivial sound if you're in a booth, useful for the hearing impaired. Kudos for constancy, imagination, and hospitality."

"We enjoyed a lovely meal at Zama this past weekend. The menu provided nice selections in various price points for both sushi as well as hot items from the kitchen. We tried the pork dumplings (pan seared) which were delicious, as well as the short ribs. Our sushi selections were delicious as well."

"Morimoto's doesn't hold a candle to Zama. The hardest thing was trying to pick our favorite dish after we were done. Everything we had was great. The short ribs appetizer was my favorite. Each roll we had was better then the next. If you are looking for Japanese food of the highest quality come here. The food was worth every penny. And Craig our waiter was full of information and suggestions. Ask for Craig if you want a great experience."

"Very good service and food. I was surprised that in the reservation I wrote that it was my fiance's birthday and they brought out the dessert with candle without me having to remind them. Very nice touch. Thank you"

"Since Haru closed, I have been looking for a great Sushi restaurant in Philly other than Morimoto and Zama certainly fits the bill. Its awesome! from the food right through to the service. I little on the pricey side although not as expensive as Morimoto and just as good.
I highly recommend one of the charity rolls inspired by great Philadelphia chefs. Please try the Vetri roll!"

"Our server was amazing I wish I remembered his name, one of our group has a gluten alergy & he was so knowledgable and whatever he was unsure about he went back & asked the chef, he was very helpful in recommending dishes since it was the first time we were there. The food was excellent we would definitly go back there again."

"My sushi and sashimi were excellent, and I had an interesting and tasty special kale salad. My husband's salad and tempura we also good. The cod bites were delicious. Our server was very nice but we think she forgot to put some things in or the kitchen forgot to put them out because the edamame we ordered when we sat down came at the very end after we mentioned we hadn't gotten it. The same happened with my husband's rice which he would have liked to have with the meal and not for dessert. Overall, though, it was good as the food was very good."

"I would only recommend Zama to individuals who have a lot of time. Service was very slow during a working lunch, this was my second, and last visit, for work day lunch meetings. However, the food was outstanding and I would return for an evening dinner."

"Amazing sushi. Some of the best I have had not just in the city, but ever. Kind of pricey for what you get but a lot of places charge that and don't give you anything special. This place did. Everything was fresh and tasty."

"Visiting the Rittenhouse Square area, we decided to try Zama and were 100% impressed with every aspect of the restaurant. The food and presentation were exquisite and the service very efficient and friendly. We enjoyed the Chef's Special (Sushi tartar roll) immensely and would highly recommend it. The flavors & textures were fantastic. We are regular weekly sushi diners in Harrisburg and have a sushi restaurant that we consider to be excellent and Zama simply blew us away!!"

"The service is very good as is the preparation of the food. The dishes are small though. In my opinion, smaller than those served in gourmet restaurants. The sushi is good, not oustanding just good and the size is abouth half of the pieces served in restaurants with a similar price range in New York, except that for that price in New York the sushi would be excellent. I went with my son and each one of us had a glass of wine, one or two small dishes and some sushi, no dessert or coffee. The bill before the tip was $180. I feel that for that price we could have had a better dining experience. I am not coming back."

"We had a little trouble getting the food we ordered, they brought one wrong dish for dinner and then again made a mistake for dessert. The waiter was quick to make it up to us by dropping a couple of charges off the bill. The food was good though!"

"For foodies, I imagine this would be excellent. First, I'll say the service was perfect and the place is very nice inside. (Me not being a foodie), I left a bit disappointed because I was looking forward to eating lots of yummy sushi, and of course, the portion sizes are small with a focus on what is supposed to be top-notch ingredients. I'll blame my undeveloped palate, but I couldn't taste that the ingredients were better. The sushi to me was less flavorful than most others I've had. I left feeling still hungry and a bit bamboozled on the price/food ratio."

"last night zama rocked. the 8-course tasting was off the hook amazing and overseen by chef zama himself.every dish was at the height of excellance. then 3-of the finest rolls that i have ever tried at a japanese restaurant. they were the vertri roll, bibou roll, and the zahav roll. each roll in there own right was dynomite. when tell you that the fish is so super fresh. plus the otoro tuna was spectacular-the super fresh fish combined with chef zama- pure perfection. once again chef zama rules in the japanese culiary world in the city of phila. this is without a doubt the finest japanese restaurant weahter you are looking for sushi or the high end japanses cooking this the chef to rock your world!!!!"

"Zama had excellent Asian and sushi cuisine. The menu was original and the food was well made. The restaurant itself is a little tight, with barely passing room between tables. It isn't a problem, but it was very 'cozy'.
Overall an excellent restaurant."
