"GRAND CRU EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS FOR AN URBAN OFFICE AREA RESTAURANT ON A SUNDAY EVENING. THE FOOD WELL WELL PREPARED AND SERVICE VERY EFFICIENT. THE NUMEROUS SELECTIONS OF THE HOUSE WINE BY THE GLASS FOR $5 WAS GREAT."

"Grand Cru is tucked away in a courtyard, below large office & residential towers, near Ballston. The service is above-average (good). The wines are good to very good. Pricing is Arlington (pricey).
Noise level can be loud if more than half the tables are occupied because it's all tile floors, glass windows and stone walls; no attempt was made by the designer of this place to moderate the very loud level of noise that it gets to inside when even half the tables are occupied.
Has some outdoor seating, and I would opt for that if the weather cooperated.
My second time here; I'd go back."

"We had a wonderful time on Saturday night. Grand Cru had an extensive wine list, we loved the wine tasting option, and the food was delicious. It was the perfect place for a quiet night where you could enjoy a glass of wine and talk."

"WOW! What a find - the food and the service were outstanding! Our Server Melvin - was a delight and very educated on wines - he even helped us select some great wines and great prices - even gave us a taste of a few gems while we enjoyed the fabulous food at this gem of a restaurant - don't be driven away by the fact that it is a little challenging to find as it is in the court yard of a ofice/condo complex...."

"Went here for my boyfriend's birthday before heading to a movie across the street in the Ballston Common Mall. We were disappointed that rain kept us from sitting outside, but the overalls experience was wonderful. The food was delicious and there was an extensive wine selection. We would definitely go back."

"It is a nice place but considering it's a wine bar, didn't have a great selection and the waitress didn't know much about wine. Asked twice for recommendations and she wasn't very knowledgable."

"Once again we had a lovely meal at Grand Cru. It is close to home, cozy and always reliable. The menu always includes interesting and well executed offerings. This time we particularly enjoyed the butterfish. The dessert menu is also pleasing - the pear financier and bread pudding capped off a delicious meal. And of course we love the wine!"

"If you're looking for a place for a quiet dinner, Grad Cru is not it. It was not just that we were seated near an obnoxiously noisy table; the bare, high ceiling reflects all conversations back to the tables. We couldn't even hear our waitress. Other than that, we enjoyed the food and the concept of buying wine at retail store prices is inviting."

"Small, intimate. Make a reservation for sure! Food and service have always been excellent. We go there often. Pick from the featured wine menu or select a bottle from the retail racks. Food is always first rate with good deserts. Parking can be a chore but there is a nearby underground lot open during evening dining hours (IF you can find the hidden entrance.)"

"I've been to Grand Cru many times; it never disappoints. This was the first time for lunch, a different menu to try. The spicy chickpea and potato cake was delicious, with a balsamic onion marmalade that just melted in your mouth, a hot and spicy green sauce, and seasoned toasted pita as accompaniments. One fellow diner had the grilled reuben sandwich, and the other one of the crepes. No one was disappointed. I had a glass of the house shiraz, which rounded out the flavor experience nicely. I highly recommend Grand Cru for lunch, dinner, or just wine exploration. Their wine flights are invariably interesting and reasonably priced. You get a nice-sized sample glass of each of three wine, and can then purchase a bottle of your favorite."

"We enjoyed a quiet, European-like 2 1/2 hour leisurely meal with our Swiss visitor. Reasonably priced and delicious. My only recommendation is that the actual price of the bottled wine is listed on the menu. I assumed that the corking fee mentioned in small print on the menu was for wine brought in from the outside, rather than for their own bottles."

"The service was great - apps came after our entrees, but the server was very apologetic, the food was well worth the wait and my nightcap was comped for the trouble. I loved my white wine flight, it was the perfect amount for the time we spent here. We had the tapas mushroom soup and the Red Wine Braised Beef Sliders. My husband loved the soup and we fought over the last of the 3 sliders; they were flavorful, tender and the brioche was deliciously buttered and slightly crunchy. Do-over for sure. The accompanied dijon was good, but decidedly unnessecary, the braise on the beef was superb. For dinner, we had the Medallion of Venison - cooked medium - and the Diver Scallops. Home run on both. We will be back when they open up their patio!"

"My wife and I recently had dinner at my favorite Bistro, Grand-Cru. The service and food were outstanding. I have been a regular and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, friendly staff and impeccable food offerings. Grand Cru has an extensive wine selction that can take you on a journey - whether your a fan of flight tastings or experience something that is not generally offered in other restuarants, the option is yours to enjoy. Our recent dinner experience was nothing short of superb. Culinary cuisine that is carefully prepared, proportioned perfectly and the chefs attention to detail continue making Grand Cru a step above the rest. With a bistro flair, the atmosphere allows you to relax and enjoy - after all that's what going should be."

"We were really looking forward to Grand Cru because we had read several positive reviews. There was only one other couple in the restaurant area when we arrived. We ordered appetizers which were delicious but our entres were served before we could finish the appetizers. The place was not that busy but we felt rushed. The waitress was not terribly friendly. Won't be going back."

"The small dining area was pleasantly fitting to have conversation, but not to be overheard by diners sitting close. The warm brie and honey with brioche was good. Lump crabcakes were delicious, with a pleasing texture. I had the organic chicken, which was moist, and paired nicely with the sides. Friendly service."

"The food was very good, as was the wine. The service was a bit slow and it took too long for the appetizer and wine to arrive. Still, I was surprised by how nice the restaurant was and will try their $5 wine options in the future."

"We dined here for the first time last night. We found the menu to be diverse and interesting. Our server, Lena, was very helpful and provided great service. We decided to select a bottle of wine from the retail side which provided a great selection of wines with a nominal corking charge. We shared a beet salad, duck and veal entrees which were superb! If you love creme brulee, don't miss the trio for dessert. Generous portions for 2 to share. We look forward to dining at Grand Cru again!"

"Grand Cru is a wine retail outlet that serves great food. You can order many wines by the glass. If you order a bottle of wine, they let you pick the bottle in the retail space and then the charge a minimal corkage fee. It's a great deal if you want to try some nice wines. They have a pretty extensive list of interesting tapas and entrees. I was with a group of 5 people. We split 5 of the tapas and we each had an entree. Our favorite tapa was dates, stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon. They were all very good. We were all happy with out entrees. I had a filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and a fallen blue cheese soufflé for $27. It was a nice, large portion. It was perfectly cooked and delicious."

"Grand Cru was a delight and we very much enjoyed our first visit here last week. Excellent service, good food and great value for money. There's a very good selection of wines, starting under $20 and featuring just a couple of $400 bottles, mostly offered at prices similar to or below what you'd pay in a wine store. Corkage was just a few dollars. The atmosphere was relaxed. Service was friendly but efficient. We shared three small plates and two desserts and enjoyed them all. We'd love to become regulars -- but unfortunately we live 1,500 miles away."
