Fred's at Barney's New York is a modern day bistro. The brainchild of Fred Pressman, son of Barneys New York founder Barney Pressman, Fred's has something on the menu for everyone. We offer only the best ingredients and use local farm healthy foods. Whether it's lobster bisque, robiola with truffle oil pizza, fresh pastas, Baltimore crab cakes or the nationally famous Mark's Madison Avenue salad, our guest’s appetite for taste and luxury are always satisfied. "I was there for business, sat on the deck. Had a fun time - staff very friendly and entertaining. They had a problem with the door into the building. The staff kept getting stuck outside because of a door that would not open."

"My ownly complaint is the volume of the music. We went to an early dinner, we were the only inside table occupied, and the music was piped in at a level at which we could not carry on a conversation. I asked for the music to be turned down, but it was still loud. I did not bother to ask again, since it was obvious the staff was playing it for themselves, and not for the patrons."

"I did not think that a retailer would have such a nice place overlooking the city. The selection was great. Outstanding wine list. It was hard to pick what to eat. The food was excellent. I would love to go back next time in Chicago and just have a salad. As we ate our lunch a lot of customers were having salads. I almost wanted one to go they were so big. Next time. We will be back."

"I've been to Fred's before and always received good service and food. On this particular visit the food was average and our waiter was busy watching the hockey game most of the night. "I love it when we get great service but I leave not knowing the server''s name. I like to be left to my own conversation with the people I came to dine with. The seared octopus appetizer is worth another trip for sure. Also they cured the salmon in my appetizer on site and it was to die for. The wine list was shorter than I was used to and I loved it because they were affordable but someone had really culled the list and I was happy with both the red and white we ordered. Terrific desserts also. Valet service was a dream!"

"Whilst shopping at Barney's, I stopped up at Fred's for lunch on the recommendation of the sales associate. A little hesitant wondering how a restaurant in a clothing store compared to the many other options in the area, I gave it a shot. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza was delicious and the chicken milanese was excellent. The service was also what you would expect coming from Barney's. I think I'll have to try dinner at Fred's soon."

"Fred's at Bazrney's in Chicago is a great place to do the whole "see and be seen" scene - and a number of tables have great views of the lake and/or the Chicago skyline.
I am, however, increasignly disappointed in the level of service. For the level of food - which is good - and for the level of the cliientele, I find the service distracted at best. The prices, while in line for Barney's, are a bit higher than they should be for the level of the food.

"Had a very nice 3 Course lunch during Chicago Chefs week. We enjoyed each course well prepared and presented, fresh and tasty. My dessert was not so great the Itallian potato flour cake with mixed berries . The cake was really dry and tasteless and the mixed berries consisted of ONE strawberry cut up and 6 blueberries!!! However, other than the disappointing dessert it was an overall good dining experience."

"This is a "hot spot" at lunchtime, but if you are looking for a quiet, elegant, restaurant for dinner, don't overlook Fred's. My wife and I new to the city and recently dined here for the second time. Both visits exceeded our expectations. The food is quite good. We've had the pizza, pastas, salads, and desserts. The service is outstanding. Couldn't have been more pleased."

"I was in Chicago for a weekend with my daughter and had read positive reviews online. It was disappointing.Our appetizers were very good but the mains were merely mediocre. My daughter ordered a pizza and it was so cheesey that she ended up pulling off the cheese and just eating the crust.I always ask for ice on the side when I order a glass of white wine - I had to ask 4 times before I received it.The waitress was very nice but she asked if we wanted dessert about 6 times.I told her that we were just going to sit while I enjoyed my wine and my daughter and I were in deep conversation, yet despite that she interrupted constantly. The ambience is lovely but the overall experience was probably a 6 or 7 out of 10. I won't be returning."

"I thought the beet salad & pizza were good. But, my friends did not like their entrees; specifically, they thought the Steak was overlooked & flavorless and the Caesar Salad was small & lacked special touches like fresh shaved Parmesan.
It was not crowded at all for lunch either, which was shocking. Maybe a menu freshening?"

"The thing some restaurants don't get is that you can have the best food, but if your service is terrible people won't come back. The management at Fred's gets this. The food is great, but it's the exceptional service that keeps us coming back."

"The restaurant is consistently great...starting with the friendly reception when you first walk in to the very well-trained service staff and well-prepared dishes from their very nice selection of menu items and full wine selections; they make a mean martini.
