"We have been to this restaurant several times now, and have had a very nice experience every time. This time, we had their truffle oil popcorn as an appetizer along with a hummus, baba ganoush and pepper trio. Our main courses ran from pork loin served with watercress and cippolini onion , to spring beef ragu , a duck breast with a lobster crepe, and a Texas Longhorn burger with a quail egg. Our waitress did an excellent job and was very pleasant. The restaurant has moved to the ground floor from it's previous location on the second. It is a bit noisy for conversation, but the excellent chef, beautiful presentation, and excellent service assure we will be back."

"We had been here for late night drinks a few times and chose Mother's Day for our first dinner. Even with our 2-year-old son in tow they were absolutely terrific and the food was delicious, with organic ingredients. Our son loved the truffle butter popcorn among other things. We can't wait to go back."

"The service was unacceptably bad. Took over 30 minutes from time we sat down till time we placed our order. Never saw server again until I had to hunt them down for our check. Not once did anybody ask us how the meal was. Then we were charged incorrectly for our meal and had to wait for a manager to correct the bill. It was Mother's Day, so very crowded, but they seemed plenty staffed and no excuses justify this inattentiveness. At least the food was good, but not great."

"After reviews from Urban Spoon and looking at the menu we made a reservation for Mothers day. The experience was OK. The service was very slow. The food was ok. My husband had a flank steak that was over cooked and cut the wrong way. We won't be back."

"Overall food was quite good, a nice carrot soup to start--and meze trio was quite tasty. Mains included a very good halibut and a duck breast with a duck-egg lobster omelet and pressed potatoes, our friends enjoyed the osso buco for 2. Service was pleasant overall but desserts took a long time to arrive--creme brulee was good, pear tart was disappointing. Note that virtually all seating is at high tables."

"Recently redecorated! Gone is the beautiful, quiet upstairs dining room, which we enjoyed. Everything is now on the first floor, which makes for a very loud, busy environment, with uncomfortable bar table seating - not our cup of tea. Food is good and service very attentive. Won't return."

"Good for drinks. Very nice bartenders with a great menu. The truffled popcorn was delicious. The main entrees were not that impressive. I'd recommend going here for drinks and the popcorn. Then go somewhere else for dinner."

"We were initially disappointed to discover the restaurant had remodeled and removed the quiet upper dining level. The noise level was very high when we arrived at 7:30 on a Friday evening, not surprisingly. The hostess happily moved us to a table at the rear of the restaurant and as the bar crowd left the noise level dropped considerably and we had a very enjoyable evening. The service was fabulous, the food very well priced and delicious. The chef even hand wrote her recipe for Scotch Eggs which my husband had enjoyed on a previous visit. We'll definitely be back to one of our neighborhood favorites."

"Disappointed the menu got scaled back from original. Thought the food was ok but other times we had eaten there in the past had been much better. I would rate them a 7.5 but all the other times a perfect 10!"

"Food and service were excellent. Crispy calamari was delicious. My husband and I chose the Square $20.13 (Square baby greens, roasted halibut wrap, and panna cotta) and $16.82 prix fixe (Soup, braised shortrib sandwich, and cookie)."

"What a fantastic evening we had at Square 1682, the restaurant associated with the Hotel Palomar in Philsdelphia. We were very glad that we had made reservations, because the restaurant is a small gem. My wife, 14-year old niece, and I were seated near the open kitchen and it was wonderful to watch the professional chefs work smoothly and quietly (no yelling here!). Each course was delicious. For appetizers we had the bacon-wrapped stuffed dates based on other Trip Advisor reviews and they were even more sublime than imagined, along with calamari and the truffle-lemon popcorn. For entrees, we tried the duck breast served with a duck egg omelet, the pork tenderloin, and the halibut -- all were truly outstanding in flavor and presentation. Da"

"Our evening started with a small glitch. Our reservation has been confirmed the previous day and upon arriving the evening of our reservation our name wasn't in the system. The GM was more than accommodating and apologetic. The food and service more than made up for the small scheduling glitch. Both the food and service were outstanding and we will 100% return. We had the bacon wrapped dates (courtsey of Square 1682), organic green salad, seafood special, and lamb short ribs. All of which were AMAZING. My husband and I plan to return!"

"Went expecting a completely different experience. Renovations occurred since we were last there and they seem to still be wrapping them up, upon arrival work was still apparently taking place. Hostess sat us at a peculiar table for 5:30 and was not very informative but it did get better from there. David our server was very accommodating and provided excellent service and would be a reason for us to to return there again in addition to the wonderful tastes on the menu. The transformation while still in transition will be well worth the effort in the end. We see ourselves visiting Square 1682 again."

"New seasonal menu and restaurant has been renovated. Now you dine right next to the bar area in a larger room. I personally perferred the separate restuarant upstairs as it was a little quieter. The waiter was attentive and the meals, both the halibut and seafood special, were very good."

"Square 1682 was undergoing renovations but didn't find out until we got there. So the "bar" was a table setup in room. My friend said the worst Martini he ever had luckily I ordered a bottled beer. Dinning room was very loud to the point we couldn't hear the server and almost unable to have a conversation. Extremely limited menu that was missing 5 Apps and 7 Entrees that were on the online menu. We choose Square 1682 because of their online menu!!! Bacon Wrapped Date App was very good and was the only highlight; Calamari and Dipping Trio Apps were very average. The Rib-Eye Steak I had for dinner was tough and super fatty and served over a tasteless risotto. With so many other restaurants in the city, will not be back here."

"Food was tasty (truffle popcorn to start with was AMAZING) but small portions for a hefty price tag. My server was incredible - really friendly and very accommodating of my dietary restrictions and had the kitchen make up something that I could eat. However it was a pretty small portion and if I hadn't filled up on popcorn I would have been dis-satisfied."

"We have gone here a few times before and love the restaurant and it's food. Not sure why the closed the restaurant seating upstairs though, but the food is still fantastically good. However now you just have to be prepared to shout at your dining partners. Granted we were there on St. Paddy's Day but it was not the same atmosphere at all. From a culinary stand point you are still eating/experiencing fine dining, but from an experience stand point you are basically seating at tables in a bar setting. I am not sure why the change. Again, food great....but now not the special romantic dining spot anymore."

"Excellent! Loved the bacon wrapped dates, triple spread (hummus, etc.) and salmon!!! Service was good, the staff very nice and accommodating, but it took time. The longest part was getting the check. It was nice that they didn't interrupt conversation but would have appreciated a little more responsiveness to "queues". Overall, excellent experience and would highly recommend."

"The kale ceasar salad and lamb were very very good and highly recommended. However, while under construction, this is definitely not my first choice. After the renovation, it might be, as the food was great, but the lounge vibe and the wait staff's lack of knowledge about the food and wine made for an odd experience. The food made the rest of it worthwhile, but overall not very impressed. However, the service was prompt and the food was very good."

"The appetizers and main course were very good. We ordered the halibut, shrimp, and hamburger. The fish portions were small and the burger was quite large. The dessert was not worth ordering. We order the apple pie and bread pudding. The apple pie was deconstructed and difficult to eat. The bread pudding was incredibly dry even with the melting ice cream. The restaurant was extrememly quiet and not croweded. I think it was because the downstairs portion of the restaurant is closed for renovations. I am not sure if I would ever return or recommend. There are a lot of great places to eat in Philly."

"Menu reads well but most dishes for our party of six fell short of expectations in one aspect or another. For example, grilled octopus and white beans had nice flavor, but the octopus pieces were scarce and smaller than the beans and the beans were undercooked. There were many examples like this.
Service was fair, but they were out of several dishes, forgot to serve one, then waitress disppeared for 10 minutes and returned after an obvious cigarette break smelling strongly of smoke.
We all left saying meh. Not worth the very high price. Nice space and my cocktail was very good, so I might return for drinks."

"We went here using a travelzoo coupon and to be honest the food would not have been worth it had we paid full price. Even with the coupon I felt like we paid too much. The appetizers were delicious (the bacon-wrapped dates melt in your mouth) but the entrees (we had duck and halibut) were merely "eh" without a lot of wow factor or even flavor!
The service wasn't particularly attentive or fast - we got our entrees past 7 PM when we'd been seated at 5:30. Tables are crowded together so you are forced to listen to your neighbor's conversation. I probably wouldn't go here again for dinner, but I would come back for drinks/apps for a happy hour."

"Another outstanding experience at this fine restaurant. And this time I my pleasure was multiplied by pairing dinner with a fine bottle of Nicolas Feuillate rose Champagne, that, compared to the Veuve Cliquot Yellow Lable, was an absolute bargain. The food was great, the service outstanding. I would say my only complaint is that the tables are a wee bit too close. But that won't stop me from going back or recommending this restaurant highly!"

"Food was great, across the board it was fresh, extremely tasty and inventive without being weird or extreme. Downstairs bar was packed but upstairs was a bit sparse (Friday night). "Overall, we had a very good experience at Square 1682. It weren't seated until 15 minutes or so after our reservation, but when you're second seating it happens. We were heading to a concert after dinner, and the waiter did a great job of taking our order quickly and getting the kitchen got the food out quickly. The food was very well prepared--my duck was perfectly cooked as was my wife's entree. The menu wasn't overly creative, but they executed what they did well. Overall, we'd happily return for another meal."

"Vibrant bar scene. Happy hour specials are reasonable. Restaurant week menu was good, although the actual menu was a fold out, making it feel like a kids' menu, or placemat. Service was very good--courteous, and knowledgeable, without being intrusive. Wine was marked up--a glass of prosecco costs as much as a bottle--but that's to be expected. All in all, I'd come back, if only to try intriguing happy hour specials, like the burger that I didn't order because it would have spoiled my dinner."

"This was our pick for Winter Restaurant Week 2013. The fixe menu was nicely arranged. For appetizers we had the octupus on white beans and the calamari with cherry peppers, and both were perfectly done, not too chewy and very tender. I had the lamb shortribs and the husband had the salmon over spaetzle. The lamb was just a touch salty but it melted in my mouth. The salmon was perfectly cooked. If anything was lacking the desserts were both good but not outstanding."

"Came here for restaurant week. Everything was delicious! Had the dipping trio for an appetizer and tasted my friend's calamari. Both were great. I had the duck over truffled duck egg (which was like a thin egg crepe). It was perfect. Not fatty at all and very flavorful. I had the bread pudding with s'more gelato for dessert and tasted my friend's pear tarte. Although I barely had room to eat it, both were excellent. I will definetely come back for dinner.!"
