A La Turka, an Upper East Side restaurant that opened 17 years ago and is now booked every night, thanks to its great food, lively atmosphere and media attention. The restaurant has been featured on Channel 4, showing how to grill kebabs on the roof of Rockefeller Center, as well as how to make salt baked fish and on Fox5 where Dave Price has showcased its Saturday Night kebab buffet, belly dancers and live music. A La Turka offers along with 20 different kebabs like a kebab factory, including chicken, lamb and beef, also Mediterranean fish selections, as Branzini, in a cozy atmosphere that you and your family feels like having an authentic and remarkable dinner in Bosporus, Istanbul.
"I had to ask for water twice before it was brought to me. We were not offered drinks/coffee with dessert, which I believe is substandard. Waited a long time for the check..."

"Went to A La Turka for a late afternoon Saturday lunch. The food was wonderful - whole fish - nicely grilled.
Only problem was that the menu was not clearly marked. While there is a Lunch menu presented it is only for M-F. We thought we were ordering from the Lunch menu, but were told when we recieved the bill that the Lunch menu is only in effect M-F."

"Had the Orata this time instead of the Branzini, think I liked it better! My daughter swears by the Swordfish kebab and the Shepherd salad is wonderful especially with a side of Cacik. Go and try this place - you will not be disappointed - unless it's an "off service" night, once in a while the service is really slow but I keep going back because the food is so good."

"The location, the ambiance, the waitstaff was superb but the food is the real gem at A La Turka. Though Mediterranean food can tend towards greasy when it is not expertly prepared, the food at this restaurant was light, fresh, and savory. I'd recommend the appetizer sampler--great to share--and the salt baked fish. The presentation alone is worth a visit!"

"We live in the neighborhood, and have been here numerous times without of town guests. Very friendly staff, delicious menu and a comfortable ambience. Cigar appetizers are a must and Kabob dishes are all excellent choices. Moderate prices makes for great value dining, especially with groups."

"I came from Philadelphia to eat at this establishment and I was very happy with the meal and service. I highly recommend this restuarant and will visit again when I am in New York. I passed on the dessert because I had 2 baskets of there homemade bread, next time I will have the chocolate cake it looks sinful!"

"We ate dinner early due to a 5:30 meeting in the neighborhood, and the restaurant was quite empty, so it's hard to judge service & noise level. The restaurant itself was a nice little place, and the food was good. The one thing I can't get over is how reasonably priced restaurants just can't seem to put a reasonably priced wine by the glass on the menu. When you have entrees starting as low as the teens, give me a $7 or $8 glass of wine...why $9 to $10?? And at least fill the glass for $10!!!"

"My husband and I live on the Upper East Side, but had never eaten at A La Turka until one of our daughters mentioned having had a terrific meal there. We were pleasantly surprised at how the restaurant was packed, despite being located on Second Avenue, where so many of it's neighbors had succumbed to the subway construction. The restaurant was packed, but our reservation was honored and we received a table immediately. the food was delicious - my husband enjoyed a large-portioned mixed meat platter and I a very fresh and tender swordfish kebab. the staff was attentive and upbeat."

"Enjoy the lamb shank.....and that "cigar" apptizer. Grilled Octopus was a winner too!!! I always enjoy this place....even with the 2nd Avenue construction.....suggest we support local restaurants on 2nd Avenue."

"Our server (Wednesday at 4pm- didn't get her name) was friendly and very helpful. Also very knowledgeable about the wine and gave good, accurate recommendations. Try the Turkish white wine- very smooth.
The warm, fresh bread served with the hummus was delicious, as were the lamb kebabs with yogurt and Turkish pizza.
Overall a great experience, good food, good service and we were not rushed or pressured in any way. Would recommend!"

"A very large party dominated the room, contributed to overwhelming noise and slowed up the service. We sat in the back near the windows and a cold blast of air bothered us most of the evening. When they turned on the music, we thought "who needs this". The food was good and we MAY try it again - but not on a Saturday night for sure!"

"A La Turka is simple fresh clean food. If you are watching calories, you can get a beautiful grilled whole fish and a Greek salad and feel great. The appetizers are good and plentiful. I like it here even though it is nothing to look at."

"The service started out well but then it almost felt like the waiter just forgot about our table after appetizers. Outside of this, the food was great and well presented."
