"Food was great... Duck for me and shaking beef for the wife. Mothers Day and they seemed a little short-staffed. They were nice, just a bit overwhelmed. Would go again when restaurant is less full."

"This is the perfect restaurant for my wife and I; she likes Vietnamese food and I love French food! I started with the escargot and it was one of the very best that I've had. The snails were tender and the herbed butter was very tasty. My wife who doesn't like "weird" foods did try it and she liked it. My wife had the vermicelli with steak and shrimp. The flavors were wonderful. I had the lamb tenderloin stuffed with proscutto, spinach and pine nuts. It was done perfectly. Overall, I would give White Shallot a thumbs up and we will be back again to try some of the menu items."

"Great menu. The appetizers were awesome. Entrees looked great. We just decided to get 5 appetizers with a bottle of wine. Next time will try they're entrees. A must go. Went during week and not to busy. Ambience was nice and quiet. Menu changes depending on season but I'm sure it's always excellent. Can't wait to go back."

"For the price, I don't think that this place is worth it. They need to lower their food prices 10-15 less. I wouldn't come back nor would I recommend it to anyone."

"Had a mid-week dinner with some friends there - 5 people total. Food was OK (everyone was satisfied) but not exceptional. Two of the wines that we ordered from the list (the two that would go best with the food) were out of stock, so we had to settle for something else. We were there early (so not sold out), and the French Onion Soup was also not available. Server was polite and attentive."

"Nice split menu, French & Vietnamese. The ambiance is a bit odd being smack in the middle of a strip mall, but that can be overlooked for the food. Certainly worth a visit for fine Asian and budget French."

"Our food was very good. We wnt for lunch and the restaurant was small and busy with one waitress. The service was slow - not a place for a quick lunch. I will probably go there again."

"We orIginally had a group of 6 for Friday night, and need to change the reservation twice to accomodate more people. They were very accomodating. It was the first time there for all of us. We ranged in age from 21 to 60 years old. All of us loved the food. You can order either French or Vietnamese - everything was wonderful - from Pomme Frites and an Angus burger to duck confit to Vietnamese stew!! We were all quite full, but had have dessert too! It was great, prices very reasonable."

"This is probably the best buy in San Jose, if you are looking for beautifully prepared, Thai and French food. Some French Restaurants could stand a lesson from the chef here. And the prices simply do not reflect the value! It's our new dine out place where we can always expect great service, great food and not too great a hit on our budget!"

"Very unique place. Homestyle French meets Vietnam. I had the Steak and Frites and my wife tried something off the Vietnamize side of the menu. Generally when I think French food I'm thinking Sauses that really go pop. The sause on my steak basically lacked any pop. I doubt we'll go back. Oh, the wines were priced cheap but not very memorable."

"A quiet Tuesday evening to celebrate a birthday: my wife and I enjoyed the well-executed menu, and the cozy corner table away from the kitchen and the door. The menu has many classic french dishes on it, with also what looked to be many classic dishes from vietnam.
I loved that it was tucked away in a strip mall away from Santana Row across the street: and it had paper covers over the table cloth: as my wife and I scribbled ideas for a house remodel throughout the dinner.
I would consider it a neighborhood gem, and it's worth visiting when you want to have well-executed dishes without the fanfare and expense."
