"We arrived early so the restaurant was quiet and practically empty. Ordered 3 small plates: cibeche with a too hot & spicy sauce the killed the taste of the raw ahi, a stuffed calamari over green polenta which was intriguing in flavor, and the langoustines, 3 jumbo prawns in a crisp crust which was by far the best dish of all. The dishes had new and interesting flavors and was a new experience in Peruvian cuisine. My husband had about the same opinion and was not blown away with trying anything further on the menu. We would not go out of our way to come to this restaurant unless we were in this area. Food was presented attractively on sharable plates. The view is breathtaking right on a wide beach cove overlooking the sandy beach an cliffs."

"We had a girls' night out dinner here during our weekend in Half Moon Bay, and overall, the food was great, the service was attentive, and the view was spectacular. Highlights were the cebiche Chino-Peruano and the crab cake Peruano and the langostino crocantes (quinoa-encrusted prawns). I would pass next time on the tequenos- not bad, just unremarkable. And while I didn't try the carne myself, my friends gave it a so-so rating.
I'd definitely go back here because of the stunning location and the broad selection of excellent small plates."

"Just a lovely restaurant with panorama view of the ocean set atop a cliff and terraced outdoor seating. Great drinks, food is interesting and different; love the roasted corn nuts served at seating, but when asked if we could have another dish we were told we would have to pay - we had a table of 4 and tables of 2 had the same amount so thought this was a bit tight. for the prices paid; the fish special was the best dish, fresh and perfectly prepared; the lobster paella was too much sauce and not enough lobster. overall would return, the view and drinks are worth the trip."

"We've been avid La Costanera fans for a long time, visiting it at least once a month over the past few years. We've always loved the food & atmosphere, but we've noticed a drastic change over the past few months. Food-wise, portions have become much smaller and not as tasty. Quality is questionable too. We heard that the shrimp & scallops were imported (Thailand) and it's not something that we find appetizing. I am having a hard time justifying coming here for food. Still a great place for wine, dessert & scenery."

"First they didn't have what I order, then I order the paella and it had one shrimp and it was not cook well then shrimp curry was very good but they only give you 3 shrimps and that's it. If you ask me the food was over priced but beautiful view. I will never go back."

"This is our second time going here. The food is good, the view very nice. The first time we went, they said they gave us back our AE card, but they didn't. We had to cancel the card and wait for a new one. So I would say, watch your credit cards."

"Busy,busy place, you really need a reservation!
We had a great table with the beach/ocean view on a glorious day!
The food was different, well presented, and delicious, too.
The only issue was it was so hot at our table, as the sun really heats up the inside (not usually a problem on a foggy day).
By the time that desert was ordered, we were sweltering hot! A mention to our waiter explained that the air conditioning was very old, and at the max. He talked to the boss, and they moved us to a cooler, nice table out of the sun. This made our experience (anniversary), delightful, and memorable! This touch truly made the dining experience special."

"We got to the restaurant on time but our table wasn't ready so we went to the bar for a drink while we waited. This was not a big deal but subsequently a hostess can down to tell us our table was ready and after we rushed to pay our bill and go back upstairs with drinks in hands, we waited another 10 minutes to be seated. So we stood there while holding our drinks including a pitcher of sangria. After we were seated we received our menus but waited about 15 minutes just to get water and then waited way too long to order. We had to ask for bread in the meantime. We typically don't even eat bread but wanted something to nibble on during our long waits. We've been here many times and never got service like this before."

"I recently dined for the first time at Las Costenera. I was extremely excited to try this place since I've been to other great Peruvian restaurants, and, especially since it has a Michelin star. I was not disappointed! Ordered our dinner tapas style and my favorite was the cebiche pescado. Yum! We also ordered the causa tasting, empanadas, tuna tartare and truffle oil mac & cheese. Everything was simply fantastic- a great mixture of flavors & textures. Every seat in the place has an ocean view- well every view point that I saw. Watched the sunset while sipping down pisco sours. Outside they have big fire pits and heaters and I plan to come back in the warmer months to claim my sunset view point out on the patio."

"I live near the beach in Southern California, and still found the view incredible... found the small plates irresistible, so we never got to the entrees. Four people, lots of variety. Should have ordered two of some things that were too small to split four ways - eg ceviche. Everything was tasty with balanced flavors!!! Felt a little rushed with things coming at the same time, so if you are doing small plates, you might want to order in stages. Can't wait to go back."

"We came here for our anniversary and it was a wonderful experience. The staff was incredibly attentive, service prompt and polite, and good exquisite. Of course, you can't talk about La Costanera without mentioning the view of the ocean, which, at sunset, was epic. I'll be telling all of my friends to come here. "We went here to celebrate my wife's birthday. The food and service was very good. Everything on the menu sounded delicious. We ordered the Langostino shrimp, and seared scallops for our small plates. For entrees, we had both Paella dishes and the catch of the day. All I can say is the food was just wow, just amazing. The desserts, we had 3 of the choices, were heaven. The service was excellent. Our server was attentive and gave good recommendations.The atmosphere was energetic for a Wednesday night. We will definitely go back."

"I had an amazing first experience of La Costanera. So much so, that I chose to revisit this time with my mother for Mothers Day. It was an amazing meal and now this will be a memory with my mother to last a lifetime. I have always had luck finding places that are quaint and superior food. All over the world in fact. My original visit in October 2012 was spectacular, and the top 5 meals of my life were altered by having the short ribs. It was just a wonderful time for me. The first visit was solo, this 2nd visit was with mom, making next time I'll bring a special date. Thank you for being such a gem off Hwy 1. You make the drive worth every mile."

"Had another great meal yesterday. However, we ran into a glitch using our Bloomspot coupon. I made a dinner reservation but asked the front desk whether we could use the coupon for happy hour. She said it was fine, so we went to the patio and enjoyed a few drinks and a few lovely tapas. When getting our bill, the manager told us the coupon excludes happy hour. He pointed out the 'fine print' which I obviously missed. I then told him I confirmed with the front desk before heading to the patio. Long story short, he honored the coupon, but I hope the front desk ladies didn't get a scolding. Communication, people.
All in all, still one of my favorite places to dine!!"

"The food was very good, but a little high priced. I'm sure price is influenced by the view and atmosphere, which are excellent. Done get me wrong, the food is good. The ceviche and anticuchos were a bit small, as were the yucca. In a group of 5 adults, 1 child, we all only had a taste of each.
Entre size was better, though the cordero (lamb) was small (2 chops). It was all delicious, paella, churrasco, pork shoulder, lamb, & fish. The steak was cooked well, though there was at least an inch of fat on one end.
Peruvian fair was rather limited. Ceviches, lomo saltado, cocktails. Everything did come with a aji rocoto or amarillo sauce. No picarones or papas rellenas, but those are hard to find."

"Have read a lot about La Costanera and knew it had been awarded a Michelin star so very excited to try it out. Location is spectacular. The restaurant's architecture is interesting and you feel that you're hanging over the beach. 2 lovely outside patios. Service was impeccable. Food was interesting and mostly wonderful. We ended up ordering many small plates. Loved the seared scallops and crab cakes. Thought the spareribs were a little tough. Interesting and tasty cebiche appetizers. Loved the seafood & gnocchi."

"We loved this place. Next time will try to make itat late evening and sit around the fire. Only complaint is lack of Parking. The adjavent lot that one can go to from their parking lot is full of big pot holes. I am hoping it did not damage my car! I will just park across the street in future."

"Elaborate rendition of the food of Peru. Haven't had anything like it in Peru, but this is better anyway.
Watch the sun set over the Pacific from the patio or the dining room.

"The menu had a lot to choose from, all of which sounded really tasty! We ordered the quinoa coated prawns, chicken empanada, yucca balls, and a side of mac cheese with truffle oil. We also ordered a steak dish which was served with tomatoes, onions, and a yummy broth/sauce over rice. They certainly did not disappoint in the food area! Everything was very flavorful and accompanied by tasty sauces. Last, but definitely not least, was the dulce de leche stuffed churros for dessert! It was the perfect ending to a great meal!
Being located right on the HMB coast, we also had a great view of the sunset. Interesting decor, but overall a great experience! We'll be back!
Best of all, we had a Bloomspot certificate so even saved a little $$!"

"A Peruvian restaurant with interesting dishes. We had the small plates. The potato with the crab meat, yucca balls, Chicken Peruvian style and the shrimp BBQ was very good. Did not care for the pumpkin soup. The staff were very accommodating when we saw an empty table by the window and asked to change our table (thanks.) Overall, a great restaurant, ideal for a special occasion and enjoy some good food."

"Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. I had heard good things about the restaurant but found that it surpassed our expectations. The food and service were wonderful. We are definitely planning to come back. The only negatives were uncomfortable seats and a big bump in the parking lot that needs to be paved over or something. My car is an AWD and slightly higher than some but still it hit the ground despite low speed. Great restaurant!"

"La Costanera considers itself a fine dining restaurant and while the food is good, nothing special although distinctive plates, the servings are small and the prices high. The restaurant has fabulous views but doesn't merit the expense when the total package is considered."

"This was the fourth time I have been here and the food does not disappoint. I am Peruvian and I am basis because I grew up eating my grandmother's home cooked Peruvian meals. So whenever I go to a Peruvian restaurant, I try to have an open mind. La Costanera twist on certain Peruvian dishes is very tasty and the service has been better each time and this last time was no exception. The server was very attentive as was the entire wait staff. Of course, the view and atmosphere was a plus."

"This is normally one of our favorites. However my most recent dinner was slightly less spectacular. It was very noisy and my meal (lobster paella) had almost no lobster or chorizo in it. Until this meal, I have always been very happy with fish specials, Peruvian specialties (we always get the cebiche appetizer to share ) . The fish is always of the highest quality and beautifully prepared. So, i recommend the restauarnt, but not the paella."

"A terrific menu & the food was very good including several vegetarian options. Service was amiable, but a bit "off." Our waiter was very nice, but if we hesitated for a moment in the middle of ordering, he'd say "I'll give you another minute" & walk away (and not come back for a while); he took drink orders but walked away before one of us had a chance to order. On the other hand, he recommended a surprisingly (and very good) wine based on a description of what we wanted. Overall, it's a really interesting menu and the setting is wonderful. I would go back, especially in summer, to sit outside and watch the ocean while enjoying a cuisine you don't otherwise find (at least not as far as I know) in this area."

"The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. The food was just "ok" (no where near as good as Le Mar in SF) and it was pricey. We ordered the scallops for one of our appetizers and they were $8.00 per scallop. THe empanadas were not very good either. However, if we returned, we would stick with just the small plates as the entrees were the most disappointing. THe service was a real disaapointment and really ruined our evening. NOt the waiter but the kitchen. My husbands lamb chops came out raw so they took them back to redo. The rest of us were completely done with our dinner before his dinner finally arrived. In fairness, they did not charge us for it but that doesn't really matter. The wine list was small but well priced."
