Nick Stefanelli’s regional Italian fare features a variety of well executed small plates, antipasti and standouts including his whole roasted fish.
His cuisine helped earn Bibiana a glowing review and two-and-a-half stars from food critic Tom Sietsema of The Washington Post, and four stars from DC Modern Luxury critics. It also secured a place on Washingtonian’s list of the top one hundred restaurants in the nation’s capital. In June 2010 Bibiana was a finalist for “Best New Restaurant” and Nick Stefanelli won the “Rising Star Chef” from The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. In October 2010, Stefanelli was also announced as the winner of StarChefs.com “Rising Star” award and Bibiana was named to Esquire’s exclusive list of 20 “Best New Restaurants 2010.”

"My friend and I had a lovely mid-week dinner at Bibiana. She had the Nero spaghetti and I had the soft-shell crab entree - both were exquisite. Her spaghetti was cooked perfectly and had a very subtle olive oil taste that paired well with the crab that was served with her pasta. My soft shell crabs were divine -- they were paired with a yummy tomato seafood sauce and were crispy and tangy."

"I doubt you could go wrong with anything on the menu. Outstanding food, delicious and addictive. The best gnocchi I've ever had, even in Italy. Our waiter went above and beyond. We relied on him for recommendations for drinks, wine and after-dinner spirits, and his choices for us were all unbelievably good."

"Happy to try Bibiana for the first time. Excellent antipasti served family style so we each got to try everything. Excellent artichokes. Halibut and lamb entrees, but the ravoili was not remarkable. Seemed like the waiter was brand new. He was not adequately trained - didn't know a think about the cocktails or appertifs, had to keep asking for help. Management shoudl give more training before putting him out on the floor at such an expensive place."

"I read all the reviews on yelp, urbanspoon, trip advisor, etc. They were true- the tables were small and the restaurant was noisy. But neither took away from my experience. I just noticed after having read them. Our waiter was very abrupt and while he knew the menu well, he was not able to explain much to me. It uses many terms I was unfamiliar with and resorted to Google. The manager however was wonderful and animated as he described the dishes and gave extremely helpful recommendations. Particularly helpful were the wine recommendations because while I know varietals of Italian grapes, I was lost with the wines, all Italian, and most of which came with a hefty price tag. Food was delicious and rich. Go with a special if offered."

"My dining experience would have been much better if I was not seated facing the waiters" service area. This really distracted me from my meal. I would have insisted in a table change except that my companion had been seated ahead of me Not sure if I will return to Bibiana. unless I can have a view of the restaurant as well as my friend. "I had made the reservation well in advance requesting an early time for dinner. The restaurant had plenty of open tables and yet we were initially taken to a table which was right next to a wait station. While the person who seated us was more than willing to move us to another table when we pointed out that we did not like the location of the first table, I did not feel that was a nice way to introduce people to the restaurant. The service was good,knowledgeable and polite, the food adequate, but the trout was under cooked."

"For us Bibiana has lost something our last two visits - rather hard to put into words. It is still stylish, our server was very good and the food artful, but preparation not up to past experiences. The welcome was less than cordial. Staff need to be a bit less distracted and uninterested when seating diners. We felt the same when we dined at Bibiana last fall.
We brought an out-of-town guest this visit so all the more disappointing to feel that something was missing. Quite a contrast from last August when we bought our family and were all very impressed. What a special dining experience that was!"

"We had high hopes for Bibiana, but the food was hit-and-miss, with one REALLY big miss. While the appetizers, pastas, and a pork entree were very good, my companion received dry-aged beef that couldn't even be cut with a knife, much less chewed. The waiter seemed confused when we asked to send it back, but he promised a replacement in "just a minute". Twenty minutes later, still no steak. The kitchen sent out two (cold) pasta dishes, which was odd, since we had already HAD our pasta courses and didn't want more. We finally just had to cancel, since there seemed to be no replacement dish on the way. I'm not sure we'd give them a second chance."

"I had eaten at Bibiana before and the first time had an amazing meal. This time the food was mediocre, particularly for the price. I appreciate the farm to table concept and focus of in seasonal ingredients, but they ruined the light natural flavors."

"Fantastic. They even remembered I liked the fried artichokes which aren't on the menu any more. They proactively offered to ask the Chief if he'd make me a special order - which he did and they were fantastic! Bibiana is a DC gem."

"The folks who own Rasika and Restaurant 701 sure know how to put together a great restaurant! This time, it's Italian, and this place is a find! Elegant without being stuffy or overstated, fantastic service, knowledgeable servers and the best Italian wine list I've ever seen. Menu is very original, and everything me and my two friends had was fantastic. Highly recommended!f"

"Wonderful dinner. Food truly great ( but perhaps a bit under portioned). Our server, Ashley, was excellent in every way. So was the nice French accented man at the door. This is a restaurant to return to for special occasions or just to hang out with friends for a great evening meal."

"We reserved for Easter lunch. The open table system worked perfectly. We were seated immediately. Service was prompt and friendly. The antipast and desserts were really good. My wife had the lamb main dish and quite liked it. I had the trout, which was prepared and tasted more like salmon, but I was told this was what it would be like. It was also very good. As I said above, the noise level was energetic but the tables were spaced well and we were not disturbed by neighboring tables. All in all, this was a good Easter dining out experience."

"We had reservations yet we waited over a half hour to be seated. When we walked past the bar to be seated, we passed a table with an amazing looking pizza on it. I asked the waiter for a Pizza for the table, as part of our appetizer and was told no. Pizza is only served in the Bar.It felt like a mean joke. The waiter was unattentive and snobish. The other servers and staff paid more attention to out table than he did."
