"My wife and 3 children went to Equinox for Mother's Day Brunch. The service was good and food was great. There was a set menu but had plenty of choices for picky eaters. The appetizers were fabulous... especially the soups and he scallop salad. The main entrees were delicious and prepared exactly to our order request. There was a small trio jazz band that kept the atmosphere vibrant but not overwhelming. Overall this was a great brunch."

"I took my parents here for dinner while they were in town for Mother's Day weekend. It was a bit of a splurge, but the food was amazing and well worth it! I haven't had a scallop cooked that well in ages."

"Todd Gray and his team work hard to give you a great meal with the freshest market selections available. We had scrumptious SOF shell crab straight from maryland's eastern shore. And he whipped up a Kobe beef salad with no oils for one guest on a strict diet. Just the best !"

"Don't get me wrong, it was a good restaurant. Great ambiance, nice attention to detail. But the food was good, not amazing, and our server was frankly not what you'd expect at a restaurant at the level this one tries to be at. If the prices were 75% of what they are, I'd say they hit the mark. But the experience dining there doesn't justify the high cost, even in DC."

"I had high expectations for this restaurant. Previous reviews I read were quite complimentary. It was nearly empty for a Saturday night; which did concern me. The service was very good. We had a nice drink at the bar. Overall the restaurant is nice decorated. Surprisingly, the food was the big disappointment. I had the lamb which was highly recommended by our server and I was not at all impressed; it was lacking primarily in flavor. My wife had the seafood pasta, which was only ok. The fritter and the escargot appetizers were better. But overall I was highly disappointed and will not return."

"Came to Equinox for a celebratory luncheon for a family member that had just received a White House award. Food was excellent, service outstanding. Ambiance is more suited to a power lunch than a noisy celebration. Good for people-spotting since many of those who often deal with the White House eat lunch here."

"We had a very nice meal at Equinox. We started with the Truffle Risotto Fritters for the table, which were excellent - a must order. We then had the Pan Roasted Shad Roe, Stuffed Tempura Shiitakes, and Baby Arugula and Red Grapefruit Salad - the Shad Roe was fantastic! We then had the Raviolini of Roasted Heirloom Beets, Butter Basted Maine Diver Scallops and Roasted Blue Prawn, and Seafood Bouillabaisse all of which were nicely prepared and presented. Our wine the lovely Domaine Jean Chartron “Montmorin” Rully, 2010. The service was a bit stiff and over zealous with starters appearing before we were finished with our fritters and plates being cleared before each member of the party being finished with their course. That said, a nice meal."

"Equinox is reliably a high-satisfaction experience -- a power restaurant that feels like a great neighborhood restaurant. My companion tried the shad roe Caesar salad; shad roe must be an acquired taste, because neither of us liked it at all, and it certainly didn't seem to belong on a Caesar salad. That said, my pulled chicken salad (one of their long-time staples) was possibly the best I've ever had. This has become one of my go-to places whenever I'm in DC."

"Overrated. For a $100 per person meal I expect more -- much more.Although we made reservations through Opentable giving them a heads up 2 of the 4 members of our group are vegan, our server didn't know but was able to veganize the vegetarian tasting menu for us. Kodus for featuring a vegetarian tasting menu! Most of the courses were good (3 out 5) but none were remarkable. The dessert was a brownie with ... raisins in it (?). Tasted about as good as it sounds. The waitstaff seem rushed. My chair was bumped 3 times by wait staff rushing by with nary a word of apology. This was our second time there after a many year hiatus. We won't be going back for a third.Save your money and time -- give Rasika a try if you haven't."

"We have eaten at Equinox since Todd Gray opened the place after leaving Roberto Dona. In the over ten years he has been on Connecticut Ave. my wife and I have eaten there no less than 30 times. Most recently we had the Passover meal after my wife had arrived from an overseas trip. It was as good as food could get. We had a absolutely delicious fresh beet salad (and I usually hate beets), a delicious brisket cooked to perfection, and a marvelous flour-less chocolate cake. If my parents were still alive even they would have liked it. In all the years we have never had a bad experience at Equinox. The staff are always welcoming, cordial, and attentive. The food has set the standard for fresh seasonal cuisine and the special dinners tops."

"The food was excellent and the ambiance was great. The experience was spoiled, however, by having to wait 40 minutes for our table, even though we had a reservation. Yes, it was Easter Sunday and a lot of people wanted to make brunch an event, but the restaurant should have done a better job of predicting table turnover. We had to give a credit card to hold the reservation and we rushed to get there to make sure we showed up on time. So we expected the restaurant to hold up their end of the bargain and have a table for us within a reasonable period of time, if not exactly at the exact minute. Forty minutes is not a reasonable period of time. We will probably go back to the restaurant but not until the bad vibe wears off."

"We specifically chose to dine here because of their Passover menu; we wanted to support that offering. However, we ordered our meal from the general menu, as the Passover main course was meat, which we don't eat. (They should have offered a choice of mains, and not made folks ask for a substitution.) We did have matzoh with our meal, and ordered the flour-less chocolate cake for dessert, which was wonderful. Overall we were happy with the meal. The restaurant was very busy, but the slow service did not bother us too much, as we were catching up with friends."

"A perfect evening from start to finish, just what one wishes for on a Saturday "date night." Delicious food, excellent service in an atmosphere that was tuned to real dining; comfortable with a grown-up buzz. Starter of salmon belly was perfection; cured fish was of a temperature with a touch of dressing and a few spring greens that allowed the texture and depth of flavor of the fish to shine. Other starter was that rare dish of shad roe, Equinox one of the few area restuarants that serves this delicacy, was set off w/sauted bitter greens. Wonderful rockfish followed but the star of the evening was a large lamb shank. Wow, run to go eat this. Todd was in house, restaurant was full of happy people. Bravo, a go-to place in DC!"

"Equinox has been one of my favorite resturants in DC. This week we went to celebrate Passover. My wife was flying from out of the country and no one wanted to cook. On the way home from the airport we took advantage of the special holiday meal. It was so much better than anything we would have made and there was no clean up. Another memorable meal. Well just keep coming back as long as the quality is maintained and the service is cordial and efficient."

"Our table for 7 was ready on time. As we waited for friends, we were given the choice of waiting in the bar or at the table. Sitting by the window was nice, but very chilly. The service was perfectly timed, unobtrusive, and modest, almost to a fault. Our server was helpful with wine choices. We enjoyed everything. The Truffle Risotto Fritters were the best appetizers, followed closely by the Gruyere Gougères. Best salad dressing ever! The cornbread with honey and orange blossom butter was lovely, but we didn't need it. My halibut and shrimp duo made me feel like I'd sacrificed nothing on a Friday during Lent. My friend's birthday dessert arrived with a candle in it. Overall, very very nice. I only wonder why Equinox wasn't more crowded."

"Short and to the point. Belated Valentines Day dinner with my girlfriend. We both ordered the soup. She ordered the Halibut, I ordered the Scallops. My dinner was superb from start to finish. My girlfriend on the other hand, was not told that the soup included bacon. No problem, our server returned with another bowl sans bacon. My girlfriend's entree came out and guess what? It included bacon as well. Our server apologized AGAIN. I had to finish my entree, before it got cold, and my girlfriend ate hers by herself because I had already finished. For this I will not recommend Equinox. Happy Valentines to us!"

"My husband and I went here for Valentine's Day and we couldn't be more pleased with our choice. The staff was wonderful, the food fantastic, and the atmosphere perfect for a couple who likes to talk through the meal. We were very pleased with the single malt scotch collection. We dined kind of early to hit a show and we were also pleased by the fact they seated incoming parties in different parts of the restaurant so we were not crowded while we dined. We picked Equinox for its local food emphasis and that was a true winner. Portions are small, tasty, and well prepared. I had salmon and my husband had venison and both were prepared rare and were absolutely perfect."

"I've been wanting to try Equinox for a while, so I was glad when the chance finally presented itself. Although, I mostly choose it because I was having trouble finding a reservation elsewhere. Half of our party was extremely late, but the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. I was looking forward to Todd's dishes, but most of our group was underwhelmed. My wife's fish was overdone and my oyster app lacked much taste. Desert was by far the highlight of the meal. My caramel concoction was amazing! A truly bright spot. I was also really surprised to see Todd himself out talking to the hostess as we were leaving. He kindly greeted us, which I really appreciated. I'll be back to try again to see if they just missed the mark."

"Equinox had been on my to-do list for quite some time, and I may have mistimed it by missing it at its peak. While lovely ambiance and excellent service, the food was not at a high enough level to warrant the expense or the hype. The truffled rice fritters might have been in the same room as a truffle once, but you wouldn't be able to tell by the flavor. For the price range, there are better options out there. Still, not a bad option if you want a quiet, classy place for an intimate dinner downtown."

"Very good food, though the lamb (which the waiter confirmed was medium-well) seemed undercooked. Two service points that could've been improved: (1) there's a coat check there but no one pointed it out, even when my boyfriend struggled with his winter coat (which ended up hanging off the back of his chair) and (2) I'd made 9:30pm reservations weeks before, then called the morning of dinner to see if we could make it earlier - whoever answered the phone said they were "packed" but if we came at 9pm, there was a good chance ("no promises") that we could be seated - we arrived and the place was about one-third full - not sure what happened there."

"My wife and I went here for v-day. The food was good, not great, definitely not worth the price. A dinner for two and my wife having the wine pairing cost $350 with tip. In addition you had to pay for garage parking for $10. We liked it, but will probably never go back mostly because of the price."

"Absolutely everything about Equinox was fabulous, from the service to the food. We had reservations for 7 pm on a quiet Sunday night, but there was no dimunition of quality at this excellent restaurant. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable and the food was superb. We started with the char appetizer and root vegetable salad, and then moved on to the scallops and venison as entrees, with the brussels sprouts side. The wine list is extensive, and the bartender knows how to mix a cocktail exactly to order. The yogurt-based dessert was remarkable, with a combination of flavors and texture that was a joy to savor. Definitely on our go-back-to-often list, especially given the relative value for pricey D.C."

"Our highly anticipated night out was a huge disappointment! The portions were really skimpy and the service was terrible. I specifically asked how big my entree portion was going to be and I was told it was large. It was one rib! One of the diners in my party ordered the wine tasting and her dessert wine came after she finished her dessert. No apology offered. The bill was plopped on our table before my husband had a chance to order coffee. no apology offered. The waitress never asked how the meal was. If she had, I would have told her I was still hungry! We will not go back."

"We came here during restaurant week to "scope out" this restaurant for an event that we would like to hold later this year. I am pleased to say that the food and service was wonderful. I am a vegan and was so happy to see that there were vegan options for appetizer, entree and dessert. And they were all delicious and inventive. I am now very pleased with our choice not only for our recent meal but also for the event to come."
