"Great and convenient place to eat before an event at the Bank of America Theater. We ate there before Book of Mormon and were done in plenty of time. Steak house type menu but done very lightly. Good salads, lots of vegies. My Chicken Pot Pie was in a very light, brothy sauce with a good square of puff pastry on top. Didn't feel too full. Lava cake was ok. My companion liked it better then me."

"Excellent Steaks, prepared as ordreed. Service was a little scattered (we got our salad before our drinks). The staff seemed oblivious that there were customers in the dining room as they reset tables. (Fingers inside glasses, cutting paper with a dinner knife, and replacing on the table.). A customer fell flat on the floor, and no one even acnowledged her - happily she wasnt hurt. Customers from her and table and I helped her up. With the food as good as it was, this should have been a better experience"

"This is a beautiful spot with great ambiance. Everything was a la carte though so be prepared. Roasted beets were terrific but steak was mediocre. At $29 for an 8oz filet with no sides or salad I would expect this to be top notch but flavor was fairly bland. I would probably go back for the atmosphere and just try a different entree."

"No maitre 'd upon arrival, sat where I wanted, ordered a drink & was asked to order the meal (OK, I was hungry). 5 minutes later came the salad w/o 2 sips of martini; 1/2-way through my salad, came the steak...so chug the martini, and eat so steak stays warm...asked for a glass of red Zin. Why, would we now get slow and deliver the wine when I have two bites of steak left?
OK, a VERY SLOW Monday night & I'm sure the kitchen staff was THRILLED to have a dinner order - BUT - who's timing were we on? Clearly not mine.
Finally, how hard is it to get a good steak in Chicago? It's probably harder to find a BAD ONE...well, look here for that bad one - fatty, gristly, tasteless. UGH
SELF: Remember to avoid this place in the future!"

"Went here to have dinner before catching a play right across the street from the Bank of America Theater. Very convenient. The food portions were quite large and my Bison meatloaf was amazing. Love the food and the ambiance and the bar seems very large so you can have a quick drink or bite to eat before the theater as well."

"Went there after seeing a play accross the street on a sunday. If you're planning on having a desert on a Sunday don't get your hopes up. I ordered a desert and was told they were out. I asked how you could be out as you basically just opened and we're one of your first tables. The waitress informed us the deserts are made on Saturday afternoons. So basically I guess the deserts are just left overs. Also for the price of the steaks I've had better quality of steaks else where."

"The Grillroom has become our outright favorite for Chicago theater outings. The food is great and service is outstanding. There is minimal ambient noise, if you enjoy conversation. Proximity to the theater district is great.
This was my first reservation made through Open Table and I was impressed at how easy it was, complete with email confirmation. The Grillroom easily accommodated our arrival earlier (1 hour!) than the reservation time though even without reservations I have never had to wait long for a table.

"Food, service, wine selection is outstanding at The Grillroom. It is our "go to" spot for steak but it's so much more. There is variety in the menu and the chef does wonderful "specials" including seafood. The surprise was an excellent Manhattan Clam Chowder. Our steaks were cooked to everyone's precise order, pleasing us all. It's hard but save room for dessert - - share if you are stuffed! Service is warm and attentive, from the moment you enter, at your table and even as you leave. If you're seeing something at the "Bank of America" theatre, it's perfection. And if you're not going to the theatre, lucky you! The Grillroom is a destination in itself!"

"It's hard to find a good place to eat in the loop before a show. Grillroom is a great location. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. The host, not so much. I asked for a booth and was rudely told that they were all reserved. The rudeness was completely unnecessary. Note to self: ask for a booth when making the reservation.
The filet was to die for. The mac n cheese was just okay. I wouldn't order it again. The butternut squash was surprisingly very sweet, but good. The wine list was great, there's something for everyone at every price point.

"Dissapointed with experience. Long wait for a glass of wine, the food wasn't great, out of one desert at 8 pm and second choice there was only 1 left. Ordered desert and cup of coffee. The desert came, the ice cream had melted and fallen off the desert. Still no coffee. By the time the coffee arrived I had almost finished desert. I expect a better experience for those prices. I could have paid $1 for a McDonalds sundae and it wouldn't have been melted by the time I picked it up.
No plans to return."

"The food was wonderful, and such a huge menu from which to choose! The service was great, but lagged a little at the end -- I think our server had too many tables but she did her best to keep up with us. "We had dinner here before show across the street. Left me feeling somewhat ripped off. Prices are high, but service and quality doesn't match. Server was somewhat clueless about wine and drinks choices, - cocktail was off - don't know if it was bartender ineptness or server confusion. Salad dressing was clumpy, filets not cooked as ordered, steak in the steak salad was tough and gristly, mac and cheese side had so much butter/cream it was rendered almost inedible - all too bad because the location is so terrific. On the positive side, the host/hostess staff was professional, friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, that's not enough to redeem the place, best to walk an extra block and dine somewhere else."

"We wanted something close to the theater and this couldn't have been more convenient or delicious. We parked in the same building and walked right in and were seated before our reservation time. The menu had so many choices that we would have liked. We had an appetizer, 3 meals, 2 glasses of wine, a drink and our bill was $140 before tip. Not bad for downtown nice dining. Server was friendly and our daughter's birthday dessert was on the house. We will go back if we are in the neighborhood."

"Our food was generally good. The steaks seemed a bit salty but tasty. The side dishes were very good as were the appetizers. Service was ok, not what I expected. Long waits for refills on the water glasses."

"It was date night with the husband. I had the petite filet, and it just melted in my mouth! My husband had the Whitefish and it was delish! Had some drinks, dessert and it was just a wonderful evening! I don't mind spending alot of money on food when its going to be good!"

"My party of 4 dined here just prior to seeing the show "The Book of Mormon" Interestingly enough when you hit the links for places to eat near the venue this place does not come up? Once seated our starters came out quickly. The cocktails were a little slow but not a major issue. Main courses were delivered at the right temperature. I was surprised my meal (the pan seared salmon) came with green beans and a bed of mashed potatoes. Our waitress steered me away from ordering green beans to share but not the roasted yukon golds??? Extra starch anyone? Our waitress later threw the bus boys under the bus because the water wasn't being filledas quickly as possible. Would certainly go back!"

"I'm sorry I cannot provide a better review. I have to say I was disappointed. It took a long time before our server first came to our table. That said, she was delightful. The glass of wine was only mediocre. Salad was just ok. It took a very long time before we got our entree. Our sides were not served with the entree. I had to remind our server that we had sides coming. The steak was above average cooked as ordered. The spinach broccolini side was just ok. I was expecting the frites to have the parmesan herb dusting as the menu stated-they did not. There were just two in my party for a 6:00 start and we had to rush our meal to leave by 7:15 to catch the 7:30 show across the street. I was expecting a lot better for an upscale restaurant."

"Service was friendly but bit slow despite having let our server know we needed to be in and out for a show. We were there for 90 minutes and spent 15 minutes waiting for our check. Food was good but nothing out of this world. I would return for the bar atmosphere but probably not for a full dining experience."

"We ate here before The Book of Mormon and the timing was perfect. Our server was attentive and friendly. The cocktail menu was inventive and the drinks I ordered were very tasty. Our meals were excellent. The pistachio crusted tuna was a large portion and perfectly rare. The lemon rosemary chicken was moist and flavorful without being too strongly rosemary-flavored. The side of steamed green beans were nicely cooked, not mushy at all. I'd definitely return for another meal!"

"This use to be one of my favorite lunch restaurants. The food at best is fair anymore. I ordered a 1/2 a Ceasar and some filet sliders. The salad did not have enough dressing on it and seemed some parts of the lettuce were old and wilted, also, very little graded cheese on it. The sliders were OK, however, they were not as hot as they could have been and there was one were the top of the bun was burnt and smashed. The waitress was nice but, she never asked if we wanted anything to drink. She just assumed we were drinking water. The bus boys were very attentive and it got to be a little annoying because my guest and I were trying to have a conversation. The restaurant was pretty empty for a 1:00 pm lunch on Thursday. Disappointed!"
