"Overall, good experience. The service was a little slow when we had to get the waiter attention a few times in order to get what we wanted. We were in the middle of two groups, so we had to speak louder than usual to be able to talk to each other. Too bad the weather was not good; it would have been pleasant to eat outside near the Canal. The food was very good; we have been to the restaurant a few times, for brunch, lunch and dinner and we never were disappointed by the quality and variety of food."

"LIked our experience at Le Cafe. A little difficult to get out out parking lot and find it. Signage should be better. Also mimosas were free with the brunch and the servier neglected to tell us when he asked what drinks we would like to purchase."

"I thought everything was great except for the ambience. It was rather boring. You could do something with color, paintings on the walls, little potted plants on the tables, artificial flowers (not boring realistic ones and not conventional tabletop flowers). In other words you need to use some imagination. Find a young decorator or check out the best restaurants in Quebec. The ambience is almost more important to me than the food. I am a serious cook and a foodie. I get great food at home. (The service is pretty good too.)"

"We were the happy group of five enjoying our meal, soaking in the atmosphere and having lots of laughs . This was a reunion of four siblings ( and my spouse) who live in four different cities, two different countries. It is not often that we have the time and opportunity to be together and I chose Le Cafe in the hopes the food and weather would prove to be memorable. Neither was disappointing.

"With the nice weather back, it was a beautiful sunny day to have a special retirement luncheon for my executive assistant. Sitting outdoors along the canal was an additional plus. Although an expensive restaurant, the service, food and ambience is worth the price. A nice place to go if you are not in a rush and you want a quiet place to eat."

"In my reservation I specifed a table on the patio. When I arrived I was told that tables on the patio were "first come, first served." Despite the fact that there were vacant tables on the patio, they refused to give us one because the outdoor servers were "at capacity." It was a beautiful evening, and a shame to be stuck inside."

"I love the relaxed patio dining experience as did my companions. I have been at Le Cafe on busier nights and always appreciate the fact that the staff at Le Café check to confirm if diners are attending a NAC event. My venison was perfect - tender and served on the rare side of medium just as requested. I was impressed that the wait person advised me on ordering that the venison is served medium rare. My one dining companion thoroughly enjoyed her flavour-loaded chowder and after having a taste at her insistence, I thought it might have been a better choice than my smoked duck appetizer, which was somewhat bland. Both companions were very pleased with their Arctic char, a fish new to them."

"Date and weather at the time of our visit: May 6th 2013, 6:30 pm, 25 degrees and sunny
I often enjoyed Le Cafe when chef Blackie ran the kitchen and I was disappointed to see another chef's name on the menu. My wife and I had the scallops and the salmon. The scallops app was fair. They were perfectly cooked with a pleasant enough sauce, nothing too adventurous, and accompanying garnish but the portion size was small for the price $12(?) - two medium sized scallops is not enough to share.
The salmon was nicely presented, although I would rather have the skin toasted more if that's the first thing I see. Unfortunately, it was way over cooked. Also, the sauce was bland and uninspiring. At $27 for this main I was left unhappy again."

"We made an early reservation at the Cafe before attending a NAC performance. The scallop appetizer was amazing and the duck was pretty fine as well. "Le Café m'est très cher et j'essais d'y aller fréquemment. J'aime l'ambiance et la location toutefois force est d'admettre que nous sommes bien loin du règne de Kurt Waldele. La cuisine du Café était autrefois unique et délicieuse- une expérience en soit. Les chefs depuis ne semblent pas avoir la meme rigueur et finesse. Ce fut la troisieme fois qu'on m'a servit un repas froid, repas qui habituellement devrait être chaud. Tres décevant considérant le prix. Le menu n'offre a présent rien hors du commun et le souci du détail au niveau de l'apparence des assiettes s'est envoulé avec M. Waldele. Le service bilingue a néamoins été impeccable, a défaut de la cuisine."

"My husband and I dined at Le Cafe on Saturday Night. Service was quite good. I ordered the veal tenderloin. My meal was not hot and presentation was not great. However having said that the Manager was quick to delete the cost of the meal from our bill, no questions asked. With a new Chef in house they are striving to be first class. I don't think they will have a problem. I would add that a larger selection on the pre fix menu would be a good idea."

"Once the waiter found out we were only there for drinks and desserts (not supper) he was scarce. We got the impression that because we weren't spending as much money as other people might, we were not as important as other customers.

"I booked long ahead and asked for a window table (important for us) but never got any. So reservation was not worth it. We ordered wine with our meal and never got any. I queried and they had forgotten but the manager gave us wine on the house.
Other than that, the food was superb. We had Coho Salmon and rack of lamb. Very delicious, tasty and good quantities. The flowers I had order for her birthday was very well displayed and filled our area with magnificent scents. Thank you Geneviève. Very romantic and well worth the price and effort even with a bit of service difficulties.
We will go there again."

"New menu is varied and more understandable than the last version during 2012. The service was great - waiters very friendly with sense of humour - the two of us dining are gluten-free - and it was no provblem. The food was really delicious and very generous portions. They also know how to ensure you get to your theatre performance on time."

"Although in Ottawa magazine le Cafe had a write up which claimed it was more affordable, I still found it overpriced. It is certainly convenient before a performance and it would be great to have it less expensive which you are already spending a great deal of money to go to a performance. The menu was more varied and less exotic and it was well prepared. The service certainly was good although we had to ask for more bread. All in all it still has a way to go for us to return."

"Easter brunch had good service and good ambiance. The food had good flavour although some of the warm food was hard on the bottom from being in the warmer to long and the hollandaise sauce was very thin and tasted like butter. The desert was quite dissapointing although it looked quite tasty many of the options were very bland and it would have been nice to have same labels to know what you were eating."

"We were pleasantly surprised at the improved service speed and attentiveness from about a year ago. However, the food left something to be desired. We both had the halibut, which was well presented but dry and over cooked and we not like the insipid pasta-like underlying it and the greens were tough. My wife's creme brulee was simply not right; it was too sweet, no real flavours, too soft and had no burnt crust."

"We were celebrating our daughter's 50th birhthday. I made a reservation requesting a window table and ordered a dozen red roses (from the web site).
Upon arrival at the restaurnt, the roses were on the table, which was by the window so we had a beautiful backdrop with the lights from the canal and Convention Centre.
The service was exceptional and everyone loved their meals. My rack of lamb was cooked to perfection.
We were pleasantly surprised when our waiter told us our desserts and coffee were compliments of the restaurant.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience.
Thank you Le Cafe for making our daughter's birthday dinner a memorable one."

"I had expected more from our experience at Le Café, the salmon was over cooked and our dessert arrived before our tea and coffee. The beef was delicious although the truffle was non existent in the potatoes. The atmosphere was lovely and our server made sure we were running on schedule to make our show at the NAC. I probably would not choose to dine here again considering all the great options in the downtown core."
