Capitol Grille - Hermitage Hotel - Nashville
Located in the century old Hermitage Hotel, the commitment to preservation continues in the Capitol Grille and Oak Bar. Relaxed, low key, and known as the place for Nashvillians “in the know”, the Capitol Grille is inspired by cultural sustainability. That is, preserving the past while using techniques of the present. Our commitment to using local food extends beyond just sourcing local. The ingredients are grown at the farm at Glen Leven, located just 5 miles from the Capitol Grille by Executive Chef and Farmer Tyler Brown. Brown creates a menu that shifts with the seasons, is inspired by what is the freshest and best available, and pays homage to historic Southern cuisine. The Capitol Grille actively supports and is involved with Share Our Strength, an organization whose mission is to end childhood hunger by 2015, the Chef’s Move to Schools program, as well as the Southern Foodways Alliance.

"Located a block from Tennessee's state capital, you are more than likely to spot local political dignitaries. My mother had found Capitol Grille as a must stop in Southern Living magazine. We dines at the lunch hour in the middle of the week, where the restaurant was full; however, not over crowded.
My mom had the grilled pimento sandwich on sourdough bread with fried green tomatoes. It was accompanied with a side of ambrosia, which did not fail to please. I had the open face meatloaf sandwich with cooked onions ontop. The nice thing about the meatloaf was that while it is typically a heavy entree it was a perfect lunch portion.
Service receives high marks in my book."

"I've had much better meals at the Capitol Grille. The onion bisque was divine, as always. The berries were fresh and tasty. The frittata, however, was not nearly as good as the last one I had. There was some odd flavor and the cheese had hardened. The service was well trained, but a bit in the slow side. All in all, the meal was not up to the standard I expected."

"This is the best hotel we will have stayed in anywhere in the world, and we expected the restaurant to meet the same standard; it did not. The food was good,but not astounding; there was little effort to have artistic presentations; and the preparations were mundane. The level of attention to detail in the hotel made us expect the same for the Capitol Grille. Given the quality of the food, our meal was overpriced."

"although a hanger steak is not the most select cut, a $24 steak should be pretty good. I ordered it medium, but it was crunchy charred in several places. A lot of fat. I ordered "creamed greens". No warning that they were very spicy. Not for me. Stomach does not permit any spicy food. Another $8 wasted. Trout was good. Almost no non-alcoholic drink choices other than tea, water, and soft drinks. Wait staff was very attentive."

"We have eaten at Capitol Grille in the past but this was our first brunch with them. Service was incredibly slow despite it not being very busy. The entrees were mediocre at best, very bland and not at all what we've come to expect from the Capitol Grille. The chocolate creme brulee however, was exceptional. Overall, I think this was a "one off" and we will definitely be back as we love them for dinner."

"We get to Nashville just about every two weeks on business, and after a busy day we treat ourselves to a superior meal at a superior location. The Capitol Grille certainly fills the bill, a place to relax with good rinks, wonderful food (with a surprise or two every time), and terrific service. We don't get a chance to come every time we're in the city, but it's a great place to come when we're not in a hurry. Thanks for a terrific evening."

"The Capitol Grille was absolutely outstanding! Our waiter (and the other staff) was extremely attentive throughout our dining experience. They had an assortment of cocktails which were all delicious, and I also enjoyed trying some new drinks that seemed unique to the area. I greatly enjoyed the Sweet Onion Bisque and the Truffle Mac and Cheese- both were AMAZING! The only thing I was a little disappointed in was that the menu had a lot of similar items (different kinds of steak, fish, etc). In the future, I would be more pleased if they could incorporate other options into the main dishes (for example, duck, another chicken dish, etc.) in order to have a more diverse menu."

"I just love this place for its casual southern elegance - both cuisine and the culture of the restaurant/hotel. Who else would have Brooks Bros. waitstaff uniforms quite like this? The hatch shell prints for menus are so unique. We are always made to feel special and it was particularly nice to have our last Nashville meal here, as our daughter graduated from Vanderbilt that day. Service was impeccable and a faux pas in steak prep was corrected immediately (and with a side brought out while we waited). Perfect touch."

"My husband and I enjoyed the Capitol Grille immensely. From the wait staff being on top of every detail to the excellence of our meal it was beautiful. Our waiter asked us before the meal if we were on our way to a show and made sure that we would be out with the right amount of time to reach our destination. The meal was not only beautiful in presentation, but perfectly prepared, creative, and delicious. I would recommend it to anyone."

"We took a client to dinner here. The service was good, food was good, ambiance was okay. The men's room is very cool--an old art deco room in lime green and black. The hostess took me in (as I'm female) to see it. The women's room is not nearly as interesting. I didn't see the rest of the hotel, but it's historic and supposed to be very nice.
I had the scallops and truffled mac and cheese, both were very good. They were eclipsed by the coconut cake for dessert tho. Not only was it absolutely beautiful, but it was also very yummy.
Free valet parking, make sure you get validated."

"It was a wonderful experience. They greeted us immediately and said "happy Anniversary". We weren't sure they would acknowledge the event. They had our table with rose petals on it and service was impeccable. Peter was our waiter and he was amazing. Came back after our theater show and went to the bar and they acknowledged us by name. I am from Nashville and this hotel used to have a barbershop in it. My grandfather was the barber and so it was really special to me! It was a wonder "31st" anniversary!!!!!"

"The Capitol Grill was a good experience the table was set perfectly, and the Waiter and wait staff excellent. My wife had the Lamb and it was a little overcooked and dry. I had the scallops, they were very good except one was over cooked and a little rubbery. The portions were excellent the deserts were wonderful. The salads we had were VERY good.
Over all it was a fine experience.Of the three courses TWO were rated a five and the third only a four."

"My wife and I really enjoyed our one year anniversary at the Capitol Grille. The service was great. They went extra steps to make us feel special including rose petals on the table and taking pictures of us at the table. The wait staff was very attentive without being overbearing. "I miss the old capital grille. The "farmer" server attire does not go with the posh environment that is The Hermitage Hotel. I found the menu to be limited and uninteresting. For the same amount of money, there are many other Nashville places that give more value and flavor for the dollar."

Beware, however, unless you are accustomed to Manhattan prices, this is an expensive place to eat. "The house salad tasted like weeds. The sorghum chicken was delicious. The lamb was delicious but it came with "field peas" which turned out to be fava beans. The root vegetables were scarce -- a piece of parsnip and an onion. I was very unhappy with the fava beans and did not appreciate finding them on my plate. The menu should accurately describe the dish so that everyone knows what they will get without surprise. I would never order the lamb with that side."

"Capitol Grille is a favorite in many cities. The ambience, service and quality if food is very good to excellent in Nashville. The oysters were as fresh as anywhere. The Hunter's plate appetizer was great to share. Order steak if you're hungry. Other dishes are more modest in portion but not in flavor. The trout was excellent. Although expensive, it is a great spot for a special occasion or just for when you wish a great treat."

"Being from out of town this was my first visit to the Capitol Grille. What a treat it was from the courteous way we were greeted by the parking attendants, to the view and ambiance of the Hermitage Hotel and then the beautifully appointed Capitol Grille. The service and then the food continued and carried the evening to the pinnacle of dining pleasure. My guest was thrilled which made the evening a most magical memorable evening. Lord willing I will be back."

"Food was great, merlot tasted sharp, just how I like it with my meat. I took the pork dish which was well done up. Farm salad was flavourful for its name but great. Food is awesome, I wish this wasn't so expensive. My friend tasted an old wine which wasn't good, left a mark on the glass after tasting but she loved her duck, so all good!!"
