"There is nothing worse than management errors to ruin an experience. What can I say. Half way through our dinner the resturaunt was being broken down for new carpet the next day? On top of several other mistakes that should have been learned in resturuant management 101 it was just appaling. Will never go back becasue when I approached the manager she just tried to make excuses that had nothing to do with the facts...."

"We decided to go there for their Mother's Day fixed price lunch. The good news is that it was wonderful to be with family and have a long, mostly relaxed time to share conversation. The bad news is I cannot say that the service was bad for if was so very long before we even received any, all the more surprising as the facility was not crowded at all. Half hour before we saw our waiter, another 40 min to receive appetizers. My "Endive" salad was 99% spinach with a few endive shavings scattered on it. Dishes looked like they were served on an army chow line. Extremely disappointing!! Really small salad, an omelet with a spattering of potato and some old fruit salad - $40/ head?

"like many Bay Area diners, we have high expectations and were somewhat disappointed. For the prices, the food was ok but not memorable. The waiter was somewhat dour which didn't add to the experience. The rest of the staff were very friendly and poised."

"As usual, we had an excellent meal at Parkside Grille Saturday night. Owner Bill Petkopoulis is usually present to greet returning customers and oversees a friendly and efficient staff. Besides the base menu, there are usually a few specials that are interesting. Wine list has good selection of mostly California wines over fairly wide price range."

"This was my second visit for lunch and I was just as pleased the second time around. Although small, the outside patio is really a great place to enjoy a lovely lunch while being able to enjoy conversation and good food. "We took the servers recommendation and had the calamari appetizer and it was fantastic! Hubby had the halibut special and was very good. I had the seafood risotto and would not have it again. Clams were tasty, scallops chewy. Overall flavor too bitter. Had the panna cotta special dessert - extremely delicious but we were eating dessert about 7:30 and the server said we got the last one. hmmmm.
Ambiance was good. Nice vibe inside, lots of small groups with lively chatter. Unfortunately there is a door in the middle of the room that you can exit out of - and it was quite cold when a few groups decided to use it. People didn't seem to really care to use the main door where no one would be bothered. This was a little annoying. I'll be back."

"Appetizer, drinks and entrees were excellent and then, halfway through the meal, our server was changed from a friendly young lady to an older, more brusque guy. From there things went downhill fast: weird monologues, tough presentation, and an undercooked (overcooked?) flourless chocolate cake (consistency like soft pudding -- very strange). When questioned about the dessert, the server told us they didn't even make it in house! Basically, not his problem kind of a response...very strange. Exit/paying bill was more of the weirdness. From the server change onward will keep us from coming back. Maybe put on the menu that some (or all) of your desserts are not made in-house? What about the other food -- same story?"

"This is by far one of our families favorite restaurants. The food and the service is always the best. I have tried several things on the menu and everyone is better than the next. The staff is wonderful. Everyone from the bar tender, to the front wait staff, to the bus boys, and the owner, everyone makes you feel like you are at home and that you are very welcome. The setting is one in a million. It is just beautiful, nestled in the redwoods. You feel like you are somewhere else. From start to finish this place is the best!!!"

"We eat here often, and is a nice neighborhood restaurant with nice outdoor dining, weather permitting. Food is reliably well prepared, but sometimes the cooks get a bit overzealous with salt seasoning. Waiters take your order and bring you the check, and the rest of the service is performed by bussboys. I hope they split the tips fairly! A bit on the pricey side....Portola Valley surcharge!Is VERY noisy when crowded, most notably in the evening hours, I'm sure abetted by the liberal wine consumption of the patrons.It's a nice place to have close by in the community. Because of the noise in the evening, lunch, especially outside for all but the winter season, is particularly recommended."

"Decent food, good atmosphere. Other diners were polite, even giving me and my girlfriend a candle when ours went out. Only thing was the waiters were rushing our meal. They would clear our plates before both were done, very clearly trying to get us to leave so they could all go home as we were the last service of the night.
Everything was pretty good, but the service needs to be respectful of our need for a longer dining experience."

"A last minute find for my husband's birthday, which happens to coincide with Valentines Day. Overall, we were really impressed; good food, pleasant surroundings, nice waiter. Only downsides were an obnoxious diner who insisted in sharing his expert opinion in anything and everything very loudly with the whole restaurant who spoilt the atmosphere somewhat and the whole meal felt a little rushed. We were there for a rare evening out, just the two of us, yet we rattled through three courses, plus the choosing etc in little over an hour. It wasn't as if they were rushing to fit in a second sitting either; the place was full to capacity when we arrived just before 8:00 but dead by the time we left at 9:00 :(

"1. The maitre'd was very polite-she looked you in the eye when she spoke and smiled.
2. Our server was quite knowledgeable with the menu. I took his recommendation of the lamb chops and was not disappointed! The best lamb chops I've tasted since I left S. Florida.
3. The restaurant is set in a quaint woodsy area so you felt like you had left town.

"The Parkside Grille is one of our favorite choices for a high quality meal in a reasonably quiet setting up in the hills of Portola Valley. The food is always well prepared (the fish specials are always fresh and flavorful), the wine list is small but high quality, and the service is attentive, but not overbearing. Of particular note is the level of regular visitors to the restaurant - we dine at the Parkside Grille once a month or so, and will often see many of the same faces, a tribute to the service and food."
