The legendary history of Diorio Restaurant began in the early 1920's. The late Rocco Diorio was responsible for the fine traditional food and many lasting memories for most of the people in the greater Waterbury area. The restaurant was closed in 1980 and reopened in 1991 after total restoration to its original splendor. The legend continues as we remain true to those endearing memories. We have the original marble bar, oversized mahogany bankers booths, tin ceiling and the most impressive acid etched mirrors displaying historical Waterbury. We offer a Private dining Room for corporate or private functions. Diorio Restaurant has once again reclaimed the reputation as Waterbury's finest. It's ambience, memories, history, and Northern Italian Nouvelle cuisine supply a new and exciting dining experience for the adventuresome palate.
"I brought my father to his 70th reunion at the Taft School, and needed a good place to eat the night before. I wanted a place with great food and the ambiance of the 1940s, and we found both in spades at Diorio's. With the Scotch and wine, the meal wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny. Colleen, our server, was a delight, and the atmosphere, from the old white tile floors to the brass at the bar, to the dark woodwork, was just right. When we get back, we'll go back."

"It was so beautiful in the resturant and the food was wonderful. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked. Our waitress went out of her way to make our meal perfect. It is a place for a special occasion as it is pricey but worth it"

"Came to Diorios for the first time last year for my husband's birthday. Became our favorite restaurant for special occasions. Brought my son and his wife for their birthdays Saturday night. We all love it. My dinner and my daughter-inlaw's dinner (Chilean Seabass) was the best dinner we have ever had. Diorio's is never a disappointment. Great waitstaff. I recommend it to everyone I talk to. Thank you again."

"Food was great, however per our server the kitchen staff "lost" our ticket and our food was very late. This was mid week and there was only three other tables so this could not have been a "we're busy" issue. Would not even comp us a drink for their mistake. Would think twice about going back."

"Diorio got a good rating in Zagat, so I decided to try it since it was around the corner from my hotel. The service was good, food was average at best...and way too overpriced for what it was. Convenient? Yes. Delicious? Nope."

"Second visit within a week and both experiences were positive. Ambiance is as its always been: warm and friendly. The food, which is why any restaurant ultimately exists, was terrific. In a town that has very little to offer an out-of-town visitor, Diorio's stands is a gem."

"Diorio's is consistently good. The specials are imaginative and excellent, it is worth the trip if you are coming from a distance. Grapefruit martini? A must have. Ever dessert is home made and not ordinary. One of our favorite restaurants. Waitress could have been a lot more attentive, but bus people were great."
