4 Olives Restaurant
Opened in July of 2004 with such culinary specialties as: fresh fish, wild game, local ingredients, and artesian cheeses. The ambiance of the restaurant can be described as upscale contemporary, the dining room itself surrounds a large glass wine cave. The featured style of cuisine is a Contemporary Mediterranean-American menu with Pacific influences, emphasized by extremely fresh, made-to-order items. Every item is made in house. Our desserts are prepared by our talented pastry chef, and Scott's wife, Rachel Benjamin. The bar menu consists of well-crafted, classic cocktails using fresh juices and premium spirits. With over 400 fine spirits, 60 beers, and 700 wines which are kept in our temperature controlled, glass wine cave, 70 of which are also served by the glass

"I wish I could get over that this place is in a strip mall, but it casts a pall over the entire experience. Maybe food can resurrect the experience? Well, almost. I had the halibut with a white miso glaze. The fish was well-prepared, but the glaze was too gooey and the accompanying asparagus overcooked. The entire entree and bread service was served nuclear hot. The bread was good, however, and local. Service was impeccable and the wine selection -- by the bottle, anyway -- is very impressive. Whites by the glass were uninspired and pre-programmed flights were limited to one white and one red. Now if they could just transport the whole place to downtown Manhattan and turn down the food temp a few notches."

"Seating was fine, quite a cramped area. First we ordered the braised pork belly, told it was not available then told it was. So, we got that and the polenta was fine but the amount of ginger used made everything else that night taste of ginger. Maybe I'm not sophisticated enough to understand why but I wanted to taste to duck and the flavors of that dish not a continual ginger. Overall, it was just another restaurant with the waitress craning her head from eight feet away to check and see if you need more water, nothing special."

"We happened to be in Manhattan KS looking for a place to celebrate. Four Olives was beyond our expectations. We had appetizers, Lobster Ravioli, which was delicious with a creamy sauce. For entrees, we had Duck Breast (cooked perfectly, medium rare and crispy on the outside), Halibut (tender and flavorful with a great sauce), and Lamb Shank (which was the entire shank, on the bone, but tender and flavorful).
We chose the wine pairings offered, because we figured they were the wine experts and each dinner had a delicious, yet affordable wine pairing.
Before dinner, we each had a different signature cocktail, each one unique, surprising in tastiness and refreshing. Even the bourbon cocktail was very smooth.
The service was great also."

"My significant other and I ate here after 8:30 PM on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. What a great dining experience. We loved everything we tried and we received great service.
Bacon wrapped Gorgonzola stuffed dates were awesome. Oysters were sublime. We re-ordered a second helping. Grilled eggplant and shiitake with mozzarella and tomato-fennel reduction sauce was outstanding. Grilled salmon salad with a unique house dressing was a hit as well. We shared a flight each of white and red wines.
Four Olives has two climate controlled (65 degree) glass wine "cellars" in main and private dining rooms.
Well worth the price and is an immediate favorite of ours. Too bad it's almost a two hour drive for us to visit"

"Outstanding meal! Salmon, lamb shanks, duck and scallops dishes cooked to perfection. All the sauces were scrumptious. We had to share a taste with each other - everything was sooo good!! The upside down polenta pineapple cake and the chocolate tort were a perfect ending. Truly wonderful. We have traveled the country and through Europe, this restaurant stands out as one of the best! "A newish transplant to Manhattan, I've eaten at 4 Olives a number of times and it never disappoints. This was my first time with a group and the restaurant, again, delivered with fantastic service, tasty cocktails, and delicious food. "We booked the private dining for a last-minute celebration and were pleased with how accommodating they were. Wine "cave" and wine country maps really added to the ambiance and our server was polished and knowledgable. There aren't many places in Kansas, or even between Chicago and Vegas, for that matter, where you can get a properly-served bottle of wine, but 4 Olives is one of them. It's the details that count to us and the staff at 4 Olives didn't miss a beat. Outstanding overall experience – service, wine, and food."

"This is THE place to go to impress! Very nice atmosphere for a romantic dinner or business meeting. Wonderful fresh fish (yes, really!) selections and locally-raised meats. Tuna was spectacular, as were the scallops and filet mignon. Tiramisu was less than to be desired, but the decadence of the bread pudding and salted toffee more than made up for it. I highly recommend expanding your cocktail horizons and trying some new things. We WILL be back!"

"Presentation Extraordinary! Fabulous cuisine prepared to perfection. Minimalist ambiance. Complimentary Edamame appetizer sample from the Chef was a nice touch. Our table near the door was noisy and drafty on a cold evening. We were courteously and graciously moved to private dining. Our Waitress was attentive but not aware of gastrointestinal side effects of the evenings special entree, Walu (aka escarole), which would have been helpful information. Tuna entree was perfect! Definitely plan to return with friends or just to have an outstanding meal unavailable anywhere in Kansas, but not another romantic occasion."

"I ordered the lamb shank braised in Shiraz over couscous with roasted grapes and pistachios and some wilted spinach. It was delicious. All the flavors were nicely balanced and harmonious. Perfect serving size. I also had the recommended Shiraz to go with it. Mmmm. For an appetizer, we had oysters, which were great, and bruschetta, which was good but quite small — four small slices of bread for ten bucks. My sister had a sesame-crusted seared ahi tuna with a spicy sauce and wasabi mashed potatoes, which I didn't think was as good as my entree. The location (in a strip mall) leaves something to be desired, but the food, the wine and the service were impressive."

"There are times when everything goes wrong. This was our experience....the waitress though congenial was most likely new to her job...I had to go find her so we could order appetizers, the bar menu book and one other book were left on the table until I had to give them to her to remove so we would have more table space. She brought two dinners to our table of six. These dinners were to go to another table. Eventually the manager came by and explained why the other four of us were not getting our dinners. The best he could do was to bring out six small plates so the rest of us could share these cold dinners. Cold air blew across our table every time the front door opened.....Just one of those nights."

"Went here for dinner with a girlfriend and the food was great! I'm from WAshington Seattle and in Kansas it's hard to find good seafood restaurants. This place was exceptional the ambiance is great it really is misleading from what you see in the parking lot. I didn't order any wine I was a bit overwhelmed with how much of a selection they have but at least they have something for everybody. Will definitely be going back"

"Went for Valentines dinner. Food was tasty. My husbands meal didnt have a starch - only hen & beans. Prices are too high for the quantity of food. This restaurant is located in a strip-mall and it tries to advertise it is a fine-dining restaurant. Maybe if it were in a different location. Was extremely cold and had to ask several times for heat to be turned on. All-in-all should be considered just a "wine bar cafe"."

"This restaurant is amazing. While it is on the pricey side of Manhattan restaurants every dollar is worth it. The food is exquisite and in my opinion the best dining in Manhattan. The servings staff is very knowledgeable and great at recommending both food, cocktails and wine. Their Valentine's day menu was a set menu and surpassed the standard of fine dining. It was a memorable night and I can't wait to return."

"Excellent food and service as usual. Made the special occasion wonderful and memorable. Our waiter did an amazing job despite it being a very busy hectic night. Since having kids we don't get out much but when we do this is always our first choice of places to go. Quiet, relaxing, great food, great wine, great service!"
