Once upon a time in Moscow & St. Petersburg, a mythical woman named Mari Vanna welcomed diners into her home with open arms, feeding them traditional Russian fare on her finest china and linens. All were welcome and those who frequent were graced with a key of their own to return whenever they wish to this cozy retreat. Now in present day New York City on a popular block between the Flatiron and Gramercy, Mari Vanna has taken up residency and awaits hungry New Yorkers, neighbors and tourists alike who are looking to eat, drink and be merry and finally understand what true Russian hospitality means. The menu offers time honored Russian classics such as the flavorsome customary soup Borsch with Pampushka, Beets, Broth, Beef, Cabbage, Carrots and Potatoes served with Sour Cream in a beautiful tureen that holds enough for seconds or third. Mari Vanna is open for lunch, brunch and dinner 7 days a week.
"came here for mother's day brunch -- had delicious traditional Russian food with unlimited mimosa's which was great. Only caveat: I expected wait service, and not buffet."

"We had been meaning to try Mari Vanna and finally did. LOVED the infused vodkas. LOVED the Russian menu, with many options for pescatarians. Loved the decor. my only quibble was the service, which was haphazard and slow. What's a girl got to do to get a glass of water? Whatever it is, I didn't figure it out. Otherwise, we really enjoyed Mari Vanna and would actually go back."

"We had a wonderful lunch at Mari Vana. The food was delicious. There is a great warm atmosphere to the restaurant, it has a beautiful interior that works well and gives a feel of celebration to any dining occasion there. The staff was also very friendly and spoke English and Russian easily so our English speaking friends had an easy time getting Menu suggestions. I will definitely go back especially for the wonderful mushroom soup."

"I was born in Russian, but have been living in New York for the most part of my life. I think I visited all Russian Restaurants and Mari Vanna is the most authentic, cute and adorable restaurant by far. The design is breathtaking. I visited them during lunch time, there were not that many people and I had a chance to enjoy every single moment of being there. I adored flower pots outside and waitresses wearing cute dresses. Mari Vanna is the best place to indulge your cravings in a beautiful setting. Must-tries: potato vareniki and tender buttery pork and beef dumplings. I would put this restaurant on the list of my favorite restaurants."

"We went to Mari Vanna yesterday for my boyfriend's birthday. The house-infused vodka is great, so are the cocktails. I would probably go back with friends just for drinks. The food was not my favorite, but I am very picky. My boyfriend liked it. Music was so loud we could barely talk to each other. I had asked them to put a candle on the dessert to celebrate the birthday in a comment to my Open Table reservation, and I even called them to confirm (btw the person who answered the phone was rude and told me "Yes, we know. We can read your comment on open table!". And they forgot! Super-disappointed. :("

"While so many restaurants succeed being hospitable Mari Vanna beats them all. It’s an absolute pleasure dining here. Design and setting are gorgeous. It was my birthday celebration. We ordered chef choice Russian Table and it was nothing else, but delightful. It was a perfect match of quantity, quality and taste. I felt like I was part of Royal family. I recommend everyone to come at Mari Vanna. Best things to try are horseradish infused vodka, stuffed cabbage and honey cake."

"Best Russian spot in the city! The blinis were just like my babushkas and the most amazing smoked fish platter. The pomidorchik cocktail with horseradish-infused vodka was just incredible. A must."

"There are alot of attractive eastern european women who have brunch at this place. They wear high heels and tight outfits... to brunch. I guess that is what people do in eastern europe. I didn't really notice the food. The chicken dumplings were good. The rest of the food was eh. The mimosas were weak. This is a brunch review. Oh and it is a buffet style go up and get it type thing."

"This is a very special place. We ordered the price fixed Chefs special dinner which was a wonderful experience. They provided 4 cold appetizers including caviar, 2 hot appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. All you tell the Chef is if you want Chicken, Beef or Fish and the rest is up to him. Everything we were served was a surprise. We got a Beef Stroganoff and a full Trout fish that was cleaned with no bones and all meat. It was the best trout I have ever had. Of course they have a lot of Vodka!"

"Sat at the bar and loved that every single person in the restaurant spoke Russian. Loved the food and the ambiance and Russian cartoons playing. Chicken Kiev was a bit too fried and over dry, but otherwise it was all good (slight disappointment since that's the only reason I visited the restaurant)."

"This place is really really good!!!I love the decor.I love places which tell stories.Mary Vanna is one of them.Once you get in you feel like you stopped by someone's apartment in Russia during communism. Its cosy and friendly. But what makes the restaurant is obviously food. The food is absolutely fantastic.I am Russian myself and know very well how the dishes should be prepared,so let me tell you, that everything is done the way it is supposed to be and this is why it's so delicious.I definitely recommend this place."

"I really like the restaurant. The food is excellent and the place is very fun. Seems an Italian restaurant when you think about a fun restaurant. The best sit is close to the kitchen, because there you can watch the show better."

"The first "Russian" restaurant that I know that serves authentic, though modernized, traditional food but does not have the overbearing folksy/gypsy/sovietsky ambiance. The waiters were all charmingly Russian but appropriately Western in their manners. The quality of food was great. I will certainly return."

"The setting is fabulous and the food/service very good. Maonday nights...when I was last there....have a DJ at 9:00. WAY too much sound for a small place. We couldn't hear ourselves think, much less talk. We declined coffee and dessert for another place.Any other night, it is charming and delicious."

"The service was superb. We went for lunch on a Friday, and surprisingly, it was a very quiet, yet inviting atmosphere. I wasn't looking for a loud place and this was perfect. When my 2 year old daughter got tired of sitting, the hostess out of nowhere came over and comforted her and took her to get some toys from their toy bin- I didn't know they had toys for kids. That was a very nice touch because it allowed my husband and I stay seated and finish our lunch. Never before did anyone do this for us. We usually have to let her walk or take her out for a bit, which means one of us is not at the table. The waiters and waitresses were also very attentive and very sweet. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the place."

"Mari Vanna is one of the best Russian restaurants in terms of both food and atmosphere. I am quite a connoisseur when it comes to Russian food, and Mari Vanna has never been a disappointment in terms of what they offer. Their Beefstroganoff and Kiev Chicken are delicious along with their crepes and desserts (honey cake is my fav). The design of the restaurant is done in the Soviet style which makes anybody coming of that background nostalgic. One of the highlights is the man with accordion that makes any visit jubilant and memorable."
