Chef Frank Bonanno dug into his Sicilian heritage and east coast roots to create this authentic Italian Eatery. Brightly painted walls and contemporary art create an upscale, urban feel at Luca d’Italia, where knowledgeable servers quickly meet your needs and engage easily in conversation about a menu that changes monthly. "My husband and I ate here for our first anniversary and each had the six course chef tasting menu and wine pairing. The food was amazing, the service was perfect (even after I forgot to give her a gift card we had and she had to void our check and rerun it) and even though it's expensive - not one thing was overpriced or overrated on that menu. We will absolutely be back for the next special occasion."

"I last went to Luca 3 years ago. I booked it again based on 5280 list without realising I had been prior.
It was very very good. Good selection of creative dishes (wild boar past was superb). The caramel sauce for the almond cake was worthy of a visit itself. Wine list is extensive and well priced. I will certainly book again."

"We had an amazing anniversary evening. The service was wonderful: we are very slow diners, and they really got it. And the food was magnificent. I had the rabbit, which was incredible, and my husband loved the halibut. The food in every dish was of exceptional quality. This is a great restaurant."

"Luca was the third Bonanno restaurant we have tried since returning to Denver from 3 years in NYC. We were the biggest fans of Mizuna and Luca for nearly 10 years prior. However, something has clearly changed in our absence. The prices have gone up, the portions have shrunk and the good quality has seriously suffered. I guess now that Frank has an empire of like 40 restaurants in the Denver metro area, something had to give. Unfortunately it is the food that is most affected, and not in a positive way. Good luck with the oversalted "cafeteria food" concepts that now pervade your restaurants. You have sadly lost two of your most devoted fans."

"On my first trip to Denver, I made reservations at Luca D'Italia based on several positive online reviews.
My party of four thoroughly enjoyed the evening from the friendly greeting and thereafter. Complimentary proseco and amuse bouche started out a fantastic experience. We split several starters and we all had mouth watering entrees. The wine list served us well as did the deserts. Highly recommended."

"I've been to Luca a number of times over the last several years. Usually it has been a memorable experience; however, this last visit was disappointing. Service was above average but not at its usual superior level. Our server seemed to be far more interested in other tables besides ours and I heard her describing menu options to another table that were not offered to us. Also, our wait for our main course was longer than it should have been. The food was good but routine and its quality did not justify its price. Overall, I would speculate that there is a level of burnout in the staff, especially in the kitchen."

"We did the chef's tasting menu - the six course. The food was delicious and the wine pairing done by the Sommelier was perfection! Luca is not cheap. I was disappointed with the service for the level of price that you pay. Our waiter was not very friendly. It was at least ten minutes from when we were seated to when he came over to our table. He never introduced himself and I felt like we were a burden to him rather than valued customers. The poor service is what kept this from being a five star review. Also, be prepared for a leisurely dinner. It was 2.5 hours from start to finish."

"We dined at Luca D'Italia on 4/20/2013 and were pretty disappointed in the overall food. The service was fine, maybe a bit slow, but the restaurant was busy at the time. However, we left with a $250 tab before the tip, and the food was very disappointing. The meatballs were dry, the calamari bland, and the dessert (toasted almond cake) was truly the worst I have ever had. On a positive note, the ambiance was nice and the wine list was good. However, there are many other places in Denver I would rather spend $300 on."

"Luca is one of my favs in Denver. Im a non-snob foody who loves chefs that go out on a limb. I love their simple European ambiance. I feel like I'm anyplace but Denver. It's like walking into a great neighborhood place in Paris or Rome. I love that they are always consistent. My only "argh" is portion size. I dont mind the prices. But too many little tiny bits start grating a bit. The "little bite" to start with is always delicious but seriously.. almost embarasing it is soooooo tiny... and the tiny tiny delicious cookies at the end? I love em! But.. if you want to serve me a cookie at least make it as big as a vanilla wafer! I tried the chefs 6 course tasting menu.. REMARKABLE in every way but the portions."

"We are usually big fans of everything Frank Bonanno does, and we've been to Luca several times, though not for a few years. Unfortunately, we didn't have a great experience when we visited in March. It took 20-25 minutes before our first drink made it to the table, and we still hadn't ordered our first course yet. Most of the food was ... fine. Although the bread basket was down-right awful and one of the pastas we ordered, the cavatelli, bordered on inedible. Service at Bonanno's places is usually professional and gracious. The night we were there, they were slow and rather disinterested. Not sure we'll go back, which is very sad."

"The restaurant has really changed. Food is still unparalled, but the charm of a casual atmoshphere is gone. Also, the wait staff were harried. Our waiter was particularly unfriendly, haughty and very slow with a glass of wine. We seemed to be an imposition. Even the somalier took an order for wine and then simply forgot it.
Still, the food is probably worth it. But staff did put a damper on a special evening."

"Luca has long been one of our favorites but truth be told this was a very disappointing Wed. nite dinner. The service between appetizer and main course was extremely slow. The suckling pig dish I had was overcooked- the meat being dry and the exterior over-crisped. Scallops were better and lamb was as well. Wine list is outstanding and the sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and helpful-a definite plus. They just seemed off their game in terms of both timeliness of food delivery and quality. The menu is also moving away from a focus on superb main ingredients perfectly prepared to lots of excess complexity with little culinary payoff. This place has long been one of our favorites and always 4-5*'s in past..."

"This was my 2nd time at Luca. Luca is good choice if you want to impress someone, but the house thinks it is better than it is. While we were quickly offered a duck liver amuse bouche, we had to wait another 45 minutes to receive bread; the house bread was spongy, white and tasteless. 15 later, we received our appetizers. No further bread was offered when the basket was empty. The calamari was excellent. The entrees were generally very good though the menu is misleading. The "sunflower seed risotto" consisted of sunflower seeds *prepared* as if they were risotto--no actual risotto. The server thought she worked in a diner--don't touch the patrons even in a friendly manner. And $17 for a Stranahan's? Come on, Bonanno."

"Perhaps we weren't prepared for the eclectic menu at this restaurant. We tried to enjoy our meal, but it was a balance of getting enough to eat, trying some new food items and trying not to have to take out a loan to pay for it all! It also seemed like since we didn't order wine with our meals that the waiter's attitude towards us changed and he wasn't as attentive as initially. We are surprised that there are still restaurants in this day and age that do that! If money is not a concern and you want to try some unique food combinations then this is your place. If you want a good hearty Italian meal then we would suggest somewhere else."

"Just a wonderful experience overall. From the moment we walked in, it was great service and the best tasting food. We shared the buratta and it was amazing. We had a pasta dish and an entree each. It was incredible. Great service and just a wonderful atmosphere. We will be back!"

"After an amazing experience one week before at Mizuna we decided to try Luca D'Italia. When booking there was only a 9pm reservation which we accepted (same time we ate at Mizuna). The food was good, well presented and the service initially was excellent. Halfway through dinner we realized we would be the last table in the restaurant and noticed our service started to decline. Our server, though very knowledgeable, seemed tired and primarily focused on closing the evening. The staff congregated around the bar waiting for us to finish. When were done and walking out the door, someone actually cheered that we were leaving. When you spend $250.00 on dinner for two you expect more. We won't be returning."
