"The sushi was great, the Hibachi meal was fantastic as well. The chef we had was all about business and he didn't look or act too happy to be there, so that kind of detracted from the overall experience. He had very little interaction with the people at the Hibachi trying to enjoy the meal. He had the usual tricks, but none of the flair that is needed to be an entertainer."

"This was my daughters 17th birthday... she did not want a birthday party, however she did want to have a birthday celebration dinner at House of Japan. Our experience was wonderful, she has a little 5 year old brother who loved watching them cook in from of him... our waiter was excellent! Myself being a mother in which enjoys embarassing my daughter (in a humorous manner) in public every chance I get, I do! The waiter was not offended however gave it back to me! Made for a very funny and perfect time for our company (as did the cook). The cook put on a fine show! We were placed in the back which was perfect our private room, we expected many more people however plans change, they still placed us back there and did not rush us. Thank you!"

"Made a "reservation" for a party of 18. This was for a 16th birthday with the family. Upon arrival, was told they really don't accept reservations. It was more like call ahead seating. Staff was extremely rude except for one young man who was apologetic and understood our frustration. We were seating 45 minutes later at separate tables. We would have left but it was too late to go anywhere else with that large of a party. Birthday boy was very sad. House of Japan will no longer receive our patronage. It's a shame, we used to be regulars."

"We booked a reservation with House of Japan through Open Table Sunday, 5/12, morning. We received an email that our reservation for 11:30 was booked. We got to House of Japan and they said they had no record of our reservation and since it was Mother's Day, it would be very difficult to seat the four of us. I showed them our email confirming our reservation and they said they had no record in their database and we need to speak with someone at opentable.com.
On the bright side, they were able to squeeze us in within ~ 10 minutes of our " reserved time"."

"We had a large number attending lunch. They split us into two tables near the front by the sushi bar. I was pretty disappointed that we couldn't get one table or tables closer to the back. I don't think I'll be returning with a group of this is size as they can't accommodate us."

"This dinner was to celebrate my birthday. We ended up having a delicious dinner, however did have issues when checking in at the restaurant. We had a reservation for 5 people (4 adults and a high chair) for 7pm. After checking in at 7pm we were told it would just be a few minutes while a few tables cleared. After checking our reservation status 2 times were finally seated at 7:45pm at a table for 4 - where we had to squeeze in with the high chair with people who had reservations at 7:30pm. So the check in process was very frustrating. It appeared to be prom night. The chef we had was great and the meal that we were made was very good."

"House of Japan has been my favorite restaurant since I started going to the Dublin Location in 2000. I've tried many hibachi restaurants closer to where I live, but none compares to House of Japan. The house dressing and egg yolk sauce are incomparable and service is always quick and spot-on. I would LOVE to see one open on the east side!! I recommend it to everyone I know."

"I love House of Japan, one of my favorite places. This is only my 2nd time at the polaris location. The only suggestion I have is if someone makes a reservation for a party of 15, they should be seated within 10-15 minutes MAX after their reservation time, not 35 minutes. Other than that, it was a great time as always!"

"We were there for my sons 11th birthday. We had a party of 15, Half adults half children. Everyone had a spectacular time. We will most certainly come back. The only downside that I had was the way our seating was. We had made reservations online the day prior too. Our 2 tables were horizontal from each other and we would have rather had them vertical from each other. That way it would have been like one big table with our 2 Chefs in the middle. We would have enjoyed each other better. The way it was set up we could not see anything from the table of our extended party.
Overall we had a wonderful time and will definitely return.

"Absolutely love coming here. Normally always for a special occasion. The food is amazing. I also love to get the egg yolk sauce on top of the scallops, it tastes great, plus the scallops are fixed just right. They do not have yum yum sauce but the egg yolk sauce is way better. I love it. The service is great, everyone is very attentive to your needs. Going in a group is great, and very much fun. Go if you never been, and you will keep going."

"Food was good, service was great. Drinks, soup, and salad came quickly and were re-filled promptly. Our chef was pleasant and entertaining. We went for my moms birthday with the grandkids and all ages enjoyed the experience! Don't expect to get seated right away with an open table reservation though. We sat about 30 minutes later which was a bit frustrating, Especially with young kids. You make a reservation so that you don't have to wait!"

"Be sure to have a reservation. We were seated immediately with one but walk-ins were waiting over an hour. Main dining areas might be a bit too loud for some. Our table was in a back area with partial walls so it made for pleasant conversation. Chef was polite and fun. Great first time for our three children (8,5&2)."

"In a word. "YUK,"! The chef was boring and unskilled. He did not interact with our table at all. He offered a zero in terms of entertainment which is the reason for going to this type of restaurant. The food was absolutely terrible! 1st hot, flavor-less water with 3 floating mushrooms in it. 2nd nasty, soggy pile of lettuce leaves drenched in nasty peanut oil dressing and 3rd a grainy a "steak" with an indeterminable taste to it. I did try my husband's shrimp and surprisingly it tasted just like the steak! Weird! Does all food grilled on your griddles taste the same? Something is really wrong at this restaurant! We won't be back."

"Excellent food and family friendly. Was disappointed they put 12 people around the table and the highchairs we requested were not able to be pulled up the table allowing the little ones to be able to eat on their own! Was VERY crowded and I felt sorry for the couple of young people they stuck on the end of our table. My husband slid his chair around by the chef for more room - not sure chef appreciated that but there was really nothing else we could do. Not sure I would bring little ones to this restaurant again."

"This was our first time at House of Japan. We typically go to Iron Chef or a similar place in Newark. The only reason we picked House of Japan in Polaris is because it was located closer to the other people who joined us for lunch. Our chef was NOT entertaining at all. Isn't that one of reasons you go to a place like that? We had a 4 and 7-year old at the table and our chef did nothing to engage them or make them laugh. That begin said, the food we ordered was good, but they do not have Yum Yum sauce (or didn't offer it) or vegetables with your entree. Yes, you get bean sprouts, but no mixed veggies like other places. Overall,for the money paid, I would rather go to Iron Chef."

"My wife and I visited for Valentine's Day, only to find that semingly everyone with children takes them to HOJ for the occasion. They were seating ten people to every table (as compared to the normal eight) which made for very cramped quarters squeezed between two families of four. To make matters worse, our wait staff forgot to serve the dessert and plum wine normally associated with the meal. But after being cramped for so long between screaming children we opted to forget those "extras" and get out of there as soon as we were done with the main meals."
