Charlie Palmer's signature Progressive American cuisine first took root in the original townhouse location of Aureole, where the chef made an early commitment to farm over factory food. Today, Aureole continues to shine at One Bryant Park under the kitchen leadership of Executive Chef Marcus Gleadow-Ware. Dining at the contemporary Aureole is staged in two venues: the formal dining room and more casual bar room.
Designed with modern conviviality in mind, the smart, casual bar room offers a la carte access to many selections that share the same style and ingredients as tasting menu dishes from the Dining Room. Or, select from a list of inventive “bar snacks” for lunch and dinner, followed by indulgent desserts from pastry chef Pierre Poulin.
Reservations can be made here for the Bar Room only.
To be seated in the Dining Room, please visit the Aureole Dining Room.
"We came to Aureole between theater performances. Our waitress made a point to ask us if we had a show and what time in order to pace our dinner so that we did not feel rushed, but still left in time to get to the theater. The wine list is extensive...but the staff was able to offer several suggestions within our price range and our choice was wonderful. The pork chop was very good and the beef tenderloin was cooked exactly as ordered. Do not skip dessert here! The choices are creative; presentation is beautiful; the sticky toffee pudding was wonderful."

"On balance, it was all good. The food was inventive and outstanding; the portions were small-ish but adequate. In fact, they were exactly the size we Americans should be eating. The service was smart and informed but harried. Everything started out very well. Then there was a very large lapse between appetizer and entree. We had reserved two hours before a curtain and found we were rushing through a dessert and coffee we asked them to hurry becuase we waited about 40 minutes between appetizer and entree. A blemish to an otherwise excellent dinner."

"I'll start with service as that was the best part of the evening. They had us placed at the entrance initially, but were willing to move us deeper in the bar room. Very attentive waiters with regular check ins on whether we needed anything. Onto the food. The starters were all great in taste and presentation. Was surprised with the large quantity of tuna tartare. Seared foie gras was a bit small for the price. 3 out of our group of 4 were disappointed with our entrees. Only the black cod came out great. The Berkshire pork loin was more well done than medium. Seemed like they cut it into pieces and then cooked each one instead of cooking the loin and then cutting. Finally, the noise. Yes, it's a bar room. But just way too loud."

"I had a friend coming to town and was treating her to a Broadway show. I wanted something that would not stress us for time. We had a nice dinner. The burger was great. And we had plenty of time. There was not much in the way of ambiance but the food and service was great. I would recommend it when you just want to eat before a show."

"Reliable, fun place. I'm enslaved to their tuna tartar, which is presented differently over time. Current version was a big plate of excellent fish, small condiments mixed in. Also had a very fresh order of oysters. Mains were diver scallops, prepared with diced razor clams, red peppers, and zuchini; scallops were done just right. My friend had the beef tenderloin, which was very attractive to look at (served wtih asparagus tips and cubed fried potatoes in a sort of wreath); it must've tasted pretty good, but I don't know for sure because she didn't offer to share! With 2 cocktails, 2 red burgundies (glasses, not bottles) and a decadent stick toffee pudding dessert, bill came to $200, reasonable for what we had. Good food, good atmosphere"

"Having dined once in the main dining room, we chose the Bar Room, which offers an a la carte menu, plus a prix-fixe and is less expensive. Also, we wanted a quicker, pre-theatre dinner. Everything was good - food, service and decor."

"We wanted something light after a Broadway show and Aureole Bar Room was a spectacular choice. They seat until 11 pm - I think and have a great bar menu with a variety of options from $18 to $35 dollars. I had the burger and my wife the salad and we split the Tuna tartar app... Everything was excellent and will be back for sure."

"Went to the bar part of the restaurant as interested in a more casual dining experience. First tried to seat us in a long row of closely placed tables. Requested a roomier, more private table and was moved there. It seems that restaurants often try to seat customers at the worst tables unless you complain. I got the grilled cheeseburger which was just okay. It's hard to describe but I've had more flavorful burgers so was disappointed. I also did not like the French fries-not sure what they fried them in but didn't like the taste. With all the wonderful restaurants in NYC, would not return there."

"Locals eat here. Went for a pre-show dinner early seating 5p. Professional staff, excellent food. Their fixe-prie dinner is perfect in time and taste if you are trying to make a 7p show on Broadway. We ate in the Bar Room where pricing is more affordable. I expected slightly less attention and quality. If so, then the dining room must be a wow! I had a medium rare sirloin with roasted potatoes and asparagus. Grilled to perfection. My first course was a green salad over quinoa (I want that recipe!) interesting flavors and paired well with my wine - Spanish flavors. Desert was chocolate and tasty, but unremarkable. The crust was a little tough to cut through with a fork, but heck it tasted sooo good that I forgave that small misstep."

"We had Broadway tickets and the play started at 7PM. The staff asked if we were seeing a show and we indicated we needed to complete dinner by 6:30. We didn't feel rushed and the staff got us out at 6:30. Great staff and service.Great place for a pre-theatre dinner."

"Aureole has a Sunday prix fixe menu. It's a cote de boeuf for 2 with wine included for $49 per person. It was a delicious meal -- both the meat and the wine were superb -- and a great value. The Bar Room has the same menu as the dining room and has plenty of class in its own right."

"We were a large party, but that's not an excuse for mediocre, inattentive service in a restaurant whose food was so great. We loved our meals. I had the salmon. Note that salmon portions are small for the price, and they really do not like to make vegetable substitutions. To me, the sign of a fine restaurant is when you make a request, their first response is "yes, let me see what we can do for you." Others had fettucine, loved it. Desserts were outstanding. Great food, eh service."

"We had just appetizers after having had a large lunch and the appetizers were fine, but the service was rather slow (we waited 10 minutes after being seated to even get a wine list) and they seemed not to care if we were there or not."

"The Bar Room used to be a less expensive alternative to the main dining room at Aureolefor a PRE-theater meal. Now the menu seems quite expensive, the prices on the extensive wine list are ridiculous. We will find other PRE-theater alternatives in the future."

"We ultimately had a good experience, but We had over 2 hours to eat before the theatre and we had to rush at the end. Our server was very pleasant, but the service was too slow. I had to as about both the appetizer and main courses."

"I am a New Yorker that works in Times Sq. I chose Aureole because of it's reputation as being one of Times Sq's best restaurants. I brought my family with me and we attended prior to seeing an 8pm show. Our reservation was at 6pm on Fri 5/3. The back room of the restaurant was only 3/4 full the entire time we dined. At top of our meal, we informed our waitress we were attending an 8pm show. Since we arrived at 6pm, we had no reason to believe we would be rushed. Unfortunately, there was an excruiating 20-30 minute wait between ordering and the first course, and another 20 minutes before the second course. We were not able to enjoy dessert because by the time the check was paid, we had been sitting for an hour and 45 minutes. Terrible."

"Had an early business dinner with four colleagues. We all opted for the pre-theatre 3-course fixe menu. Everybody was more than happy with their selections, though the two of us who chose the Fettucine starter had reason to feel more smug (mindblowingly good!). Excellent wine list covering most budgets. Overall, not cheap, but worth it given lack of quality in the Times Sq region."

"My colleague and I treated ourselves to a wonderful meal at Auerole. They did not disappoint. The Sunday night special supper was amazing. Wonderful beef (no steak knife needed) really decision fries, salad, and amazingly smooth red wine. The dessert was also incredible. Well worth the price."

"The food was delicious but we, a table of 5, sat before 6 and finished dinner at 7:15. We ordered dessert and coffee/drinks at 7:24, plenty of time before our show. Two of the three drinks had come before 7:45 along with the desserts but no coffee. We had to chug the remaining drink and send the coffee back, leaving half of the two quite expensive after dinner drinks there. The waitstaff was extremely overwhelmed whereas the bus staff was standing around, not knowing what to do, there were so many of them."

"I rarely write reviews but will make an exception this time. We usually go here for the Sunday Supper menu which is now called Sunday Roasts and consists of a three course meal with a bottle of wine for $55 each for two persons. In the past these meals have been very good to excelent; however that was definitely not the case this time. Service was extremely slow from start to finish. To be fair this was not totally the fault of the server. Although both dining rooms were not full the kitchen was not getting food out. When the entree finally arrived the meat was a very inferior cut. Tough and mostly fat! No one, except a busboy, asked us how we liked our meal and no one seemed to care. It will be a long time before we return if ever."

"We arrived at 5:45 p.m., told our waitress that we had theatre tickets for an 8:00 p.m. curtain, and she assured us that the courses would come quickly. In fact, despite several inquires and reminders, our entrees did not arrive until 7:20 p.m., giving us fifteen minutes to eat the entrees and no time for dessert."

"We had THE BEST PUMPKIN SOUP EVER!!!!!! But the portion was way too small for the price. The scallops were also excellent. I asked if the salmon tartare was at all spicy. The waiter said no but it had too much of a kick for me. I can't have ANY heat."

"Booked a table in the Bar Room (because I wanted the more casual Bar Room seating and menu) - was seated in the main dining room and told there were no tables in the Bar Room, and handed the hefty tasting menus/prix fixe menus. Their only concession was that we could order from the prix fixe menu a la carte! Unacceptable, and frankly strange. Complained on the way out, and was informed there would have been a table available 15 mins later for us in the Bar Room, but that it was our fault we couldn't have waited because we were going to the theater. We were never given the option to wait for that table, and would have gladly taken it as an hour would have been sufficient time for what we wanted to order. Grrr. Not going back."

"What a great near-times-square find! Right on 42nd street, i would not have thought we would find such a lovely place - great bar, modern, excellent selections for appetizers and entrees. The butternut squash soup - with brussel sprouts in it! - was excellent. The scallop entree melts in your mouth. Good by-the-glass wine selection and attentive but not hovering service. Very nice night and i would absolutely bring friends here again."
