Wilshire
Designer Thomas Schoos created a warm distinctive ambiance while taking advantage of the unique spaces on the property. Each room makes an individual statement retaining the “old world” character of this historic space or capturing a more modern sensibility. The main dining room features plush leather banquettes and antique mirrors enhanced by candlelight while the indoor bar has coffered ceilings, club chairs and a softly lit amber bar. The spacious outdoor garden, bar and private terrace are surrounded by rich chocolate stucco walls accented with fireplaces and water features. The dining area seats 100 and the terrace may inspire a cigar or fine Cognac fireside.

"We are well travelled foodies and fans of Top Chef. Reservations were a snap on Open Table. Server was perfectly engaging and familiar with the menu. The food was over the top brilliantly prepared! Truly the best black cod and braised short rib preparation we've ever had. Minor glitches on this nearly perfect experience - include a linty wine glass (shows really well against red wine), and a borderline arrogant welcome - nearly ruined this otherwise perfect evening."

"The food at Wilshire never disappoints. Moderate portions, but prepared to perfection. I enjoy the creative menu. If you go, you MUST sit outside. I've never loved the interior, but the outside patio ambience cannot be beat. Out waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and made excellent suggestions.

"The server BUTCHERED my Birthday cake! Only three of us were there for dessert, so I asked her to "cut as close to a quarter as possible," meaning cut three nice, large slices.... Instead, she brings out a quarter piece of cake on three plates. WTH??? We're supposed to eat a quarter of a standard 8 - 9 in. round, two-layer cake, for real??? WORST OF ALL, when they brought the cake box out, one of the three quarters was smaller...someone's trifling-behind took a piece of my cake, for real!!! Then they had the audacity to charge the cake-cutting fee they said they'd waive. Sooooo, the moral of the story: If you take a cake in, do as I knew good & well I should have, cut & serve your own dang cake!"

"The food was good (not great) and the staff was very fun & friendly but not overly-attentive. The refills on the "bottomless" mimosas are slightly hard to come by (we had to ask for refills and it would take at least 10 minutes for someone to come by). The atmosphere is great and that is what would make me recommend this venue. It was nice to be outdoors but out of direct sunlight. Restroom was kind of messy, soap dispenser was broken and they were out of paper goods early on in the day."

"We had a great time- the patio area is wonderful. Food was very good, although I was a bit disappointed in the ribeye. It was pretty thin- the waiter did advise me of this beforehand. But there was nothing really special about the steak- it was just okay. And for the price it really was not something I would order again. Otherwise, everything was great. The black cod was fantastic, as was the mac and cheese."

"I've been to Wilshire numerous times with the same friend, and we've been consistently satisfied, but this time was kind of a bust on the food. I had crab enchiladas, which had a pleasing sauce and plenty of crab. The green rice served with the enchiladas was nice, but lacked salt. I had to special order a side of vegetables to balance out the meal. My friend ordered a Chinese chicken salad, which looked good, but lacked substance. She was still hungry, so she knocked off the bread basket! As usual, we enjoyed their excellent organic coffee, and the service was quite good. I've had many excellent meals here, and a couple of clinkers - not sure what accounts for the inconsistency. Maybe because it was a Monday?"

"Poor service, moderate food. Bus man was most attentive, would have been a better waiter. Requested a table outdoors and response was as if we'd requested a free meal. Instead of saying we will do our best to find you one but it is very crowded, the response was no it'll never happen. Meanwhile inside was empty at 930 and a few two tops were open outside. Food was dry (short ribs) and Brussels sprouts overly sweet."

"We've been to Wilshire a few times and love the ambiance and the food. This night, however, we brought my parents who were in from out of town, and it didn't live up to expectations. It's clear that they were overbooked and although they profusely apologized, the service was pretty poor. It took 30 minutes just to have someone take our drink order and things continued from there - forgotten appetizer, 4 requests before someone turned the heater on, etc. I would highly recommend Wilshire - the service is normally good and the food/scene is outstanding - but I would also recommend that Wilshire not overbook if they have large parties who will dominate the staff's time. No experience is better than a sub-par or poor one."

"If you can get there before or after the lunch crowd arrives, dining outside on a nice day is a little slice of heaven. We got there at 11:30 AM and had the patio to ourselves for awhile...fantastic! After even a couple of parties were seated though, it was already too loud for my taste...but that might have also been a function of the individuals in the parties themselves, rather than an observation on the patio's acoustics. The food itself was wonderful. I had the Lobster Cobb salad, truffled potato chips, and three of us split the chocolate chip cookie with malted milk for dessert (trust me, it can feed three easily!). Yummy! Loved the sea salt sprinkled on top of the cookie! Will definitely come back again."

"My wife and I had a nice dinner for two the other night. We didn't specify outdoor seating so we were stuck inside, which was ok. Next time, we'll specifically request to sit outdoors. Everything we ordered was excellent: Pork cheeks, lamb, brussle sprout side, sticky toffee pudding and Basil sponge cake with ice cream. Yum Yum."

"Sat on the pation on a cool March evening, but there was plenty of warmth from the fireplace and heaters. Good food (I had the pork cheeks, delicious and not common on restaurant menus), good service. I would return."

"We had a great relaxing lunch. Lobster cobb and the shrimp enchiladas were outstanding as was the sticky pudding. The entire staff were pleasant and helpful. The outside dining was very comfortable with heat lamps to counteract the fog. However, I do not think I would want to eat indoors."

"I had made a reservation well in advance but we were seated in a very unattractive room. Asked to be seated on the beautiful patio but denied. Waited forever to be greeted or get water, waited forever to have order taken, waited so long after dinner for our dessert wine that we finally cancelled the order. Food was perfect and the wine we did get was great, and the waiter was even fairly nice when he did attend to us, althought never apologized for anything or not bringing us the dessert wine. The overall service was tragic and sitting in a room that depressing was a huge downer for a dinner of that quality"

"Honestly, the food was sheer perfection! Started with ceviche, which was delicious. Light,fresh, and with a great kick to it. Then had the spicy lamb bolognese pasta... out of this world! Tasty and wonderful although they could ramp up the spice factor for me. Desserts are yummy and their coffee was amazing.
The only thing I thought was lacking was good service. Our waiter was nice but when it got busy, impossible to find. The bus boys work their tails off which is appreciated but it would have been nice to have the same attention from the wait staff.
I recommend for the food... it's awesome. The service... not so much"
