"went for a birthday celebration. We ordered 2 wines for and a coke . We ordered 2 appetizers to share. Our appetizers arrived , but no drinks. My nephew requested his coke and it was brought (without lemon, as requested) still no wines. had to ask for them again and by this time our apps were almost done. While we were still finishing up our appetizers - our entrees arrived. I like to have a bit of time to enjoy drinks and appetizers before the main course is sitting in front of you . brought out husband entree - wasn't what he ordered. We tried to eat our main courses slowly so husband wouldn't have to eat alone. Dessert was very good."

"Overall this would appear to be an upscale special restaurant. Many of the entrees 28 to 35. The outside dining is delightful.
Wine Selection . only about 5 choices of wine by the glass. most of the choices were poor. One of the full bottles Relax which sells for 10.95 was listed on the menu for 32.50.
Special printed menu had Italian Bread Salad 9.00 Bread cubes, pale chopped tomatoes and some sliced red onions. You could hardly taste the dressing. Not even fresh basil to compliment it. Grilled branzino well done, but hardly any seasonings, tired grilled asparagus and so so rice. Chilean sea bass was beautifully presented. cooked just two min too long Pulled short ribs with pasta tasty and man size portion."

"Five of us went for lunch on Mother's Day, 2013. To start, we ordered a bottle of Norton Torrontes, 2009, a nice, fruity Argentinian white wine (very resonably priced at $28). For appetizers we ordered Artichoke & Spinach Dip: Creamed Spinach, Artichoke, Melted Gruyere, served with pita triangles ($9), and meat empanadas served with pico de gallo ($9). I ordered a Chicken Baguette ($12). My mom and son ordered meat loaf ($14), my son's fiancee ordered a grilled veggie wrap ($10), and my wife ordered the lobster mac and cheese ($14). Everyone was pleased, except my mom, who said the bbq sauce was too spicy for her. All in all, it was a very pleasant time. We have been here before, and it is consistently good. Highly recommended."

"It was my first time there, went with co workers to celebrate. Food was good and prices were fair, again we didn't have appetizer, desert, just the main course and a drink. However I did notice that the sushi was expensive. Waiters were friendly but at times our waiter was very slow. I would definitely go again as well as recommend this place."

"We brought our friends from Montclair where they have access to many lovely restaurants. They hadn't been in South Orange for years. They were delighted with the food, impressed with the service and the decor. We came at 6:30 so the crowd didn't start arriving until we were on our dessert. I'm sure they will return --- and so will we!"

"We dined at Above for the first time. Our son made reservations in advance, and the restaurant even called him to confirm. He called to reconfirm the day of, and they told him there was no record of our reservation. They were able to offer 6:00pm - ok, but not great. I ordered chicken with mushroom risotto. The chicken was excellent, but the risotto was so salty it was inedible. My husband ordered branzino and said it was very good. Our son ordered steak kabobs, which he said were just average. Our server was very nice and attentive."

"We had girls night at Above celebrating our friend's birthday, and our whole experience was excellent! The food was delicious, portions were large but not overwhelming, and our server (zack) was fantastic! Only disappointment was that we were told we couldn't order the sea scallops dish, even though they had all of the components available to order separately. Strange. Either way, it was a great evening and I will definitely be back!"

"The restaurant has great potential. The ambience and layout of the place is great. The food can be really good and at the same time not consistently good. For example, the grilled chicken on the menu was over cooked and dry. The paella I had was so so. For the price the restaurant could do a much better job. It is convenient being the neighborhood but I would rather pay the same price for better quality elsewhere."

"The service was very good, the drinks were fine and the appetizers/salads very good. It was the main courses that fell a little short. My son got the filet mignon which was to be medium well done. It was seared on the outside, with some very rare parts and some bone-dry parts..not sure how that was accomplished, but it was terrible. The special manicotti with Bolognese sauce was not very good (very dry filling) and the pasta dish, Porcini all Amici was a bit too mushroomy that the pasta was nearly brown. Desserts however, were delicious, especially the fried cheesecake. I have been to this restaurant a few times in the past and the entrees always seem to disappoint. I will not be going back. Too bad, because it is lovely."

"The brunch selection was not what we expected. We ordered the lunch sized Lobster Mac and cheese, it was just ok. It was a but watery and the pasta wasn't soft. In addition for the price the portion was super small. It was big enough for a small child or as a side dish but NOT as lunch item. We were not impressed at all. This was to be a special 15th anniversary brunch for us but we had to end up going out again to eat. The waiter should have told us that it was small. It didn't even come with anything."
