A Toute Heure, a bistro located in the Centennial Village of Cranford, uses the freshest ingredients sourced from local farms, markets, and purveyors. "This was the perfect restaurant for a special dinner out with my husband. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the food is delicious and it's BYOB. We started with a tasty hand-made pizza that had local cheeses and bacon with a sunny side-up egg on top (sounds unusual, but it was great). My husband had the chicken stuffed with turkey-feta sausage that he really enjoyed and I loved the fish of the day (black sea bass with an amazing celery puree and delicious root mash). We topped it off with dessert and their hand-made ice cream and then rolled ourselves out the door. It's not easy to get a reservation, so be sure to book in advance - it's totally worth the wait!"

"We had high expectations for this restaurant and they were well exceeded in everyway and every area. The decor was neat, clean and romanticly charming . The service was personable, friendly and sophisticated. The food was farm fresh , amazing pairings that we wouldn't have thought about with just the right amount of seasoning and flavor. We tried 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and had oysters to start . The dessert was amazing as well. We have been raving about this place all weekend and plan to come back very soon ! The menu changes a lot so rest assured you will get the freshest ingredients !!"

"This place never ceases to leave me amazed. The food is nothing short of perfect. Everything, from something as simple as the amazing bread (fresh baked, comes to the table hot, crispy, flaky) served with tarragon butter, to the marinated olives (so simple yet done perfectly), to the falafel balls (ridiculous), every single piece of food was incredible. The pistaccio ice cream served with my dessert wasnt particularly great...but it was an accompaniment to the rhubarb custard tart which was outstanding. Went for an early mothersday lunch...my mom was blown away. ATH is just a step above the rest. I will eat anything they put on the menu. Not a cauliflower fan at all, but at ATH id try it with no hesitation."

"Everything was perfect! I took my mom out for an early Mother's Day lunch on Saturday. We had never been there before, so the waitress gave us a mini-tour of the menu. We had a cheese platter to start, served with delicious bread, garlic knots, honey, apple butter and a delicious herb butter. So great! I then had the chicken dumplings and ricotta gnocchi - absolutely divine! I did find the white wine sauce to be a bit on the salty side, which is the reason why I didn't give the food 5 stars. My mom had the fish of the day - porgie, with spring vegetables. She loved how light it was and that it didn't make her feel stuffed. For desert, she had a scoop of pistachio ice cream, while I had their lemon bar with lemon-lavender ice cream!"

"We started with octopus appetizer which was just OK and the falafel which was so delicious we wanted more. I had flounder for dinner which was cooked nicely but the sauce on the plate was very salty- my hands were swollen the next day! My hisband had pasta with clams - also a bit salty and I thought a little bland. I was a little disappointed with the menu in general- I'd remembered it being a bit more fresh local veggie focused, less fatty meats. The desserts were ok as well- my hubs loved his rice pudding and the chocolate trifle was alright, but the best part about it was the almond milk ice cream. The owners were fantastic as usual and our waitress was fine. We won't be vying for a reservation here again too soon."

"Overall i enjoyed the food but some minor critiques. 1st i both had the duck i hate when items are stacked. We had the duck. The duck sat on roasted duck fat potatoes w spicy broccoli rabe on top & sunny side up egg. Delicious, however I felt the broccoli rabe didn't add anything & was a little too spicy therefore making the egg & the duck by default spicy. My 2nd critique would be the dessert menu. I ordered a caramel chocolate cake with chocolate covered pretzel ice cream. Now maybe it is because I'm a pastry chef but I would never advertise the item the way it was listed. I couldn't taste an oz of caramel and the ice cream was just chocolate with pretzels crunched up on the bottom. However overall the food was good & I would return."

"went for my husband's 50th birthday - called in advance and asked for a candle to be put in a dessert - was assured it would happen - coffee came and went - no dessert - asked owner/manager about it - said they try to keep on top of these things - saw that request was with reservation - just apologized - 50 is a big birthday - it is a pricey restaurant - candle in a dessert is not too difficult - won't be back"

"it did not disappoint! We have heard rave reviews for years and finally had an opportunity to have dinner. The pork loin entree (pot au feu style) was heated thru and every bite brought together all the nuances of the ingredients from start to finish. Homemade pasta let the lamb meatballs shine through and the apple cake with mole ice cream made it a memorable birthday dinner for my husband. Warren Zevon on Pandora was a bonus for background music and ambience."

"we found the food to be vastly overrated. The crab cakes were pasty, and the crab chunks did not come thru cleanly. The bread it was sertved on was no nessersary, and was rock hard. It could have used more dressing. The steak frites, were just ok...the steak was tough, and the fries were nothing better than a diner. The pork braise was so dry it was hadly edible."

"My friend and I had a wonderful time at A Toute Heure. The service was great - several different members of the staff either served our food, cleared our dishes, or just stopped to see if we were pleased with everything. We especially appreciated the fact that the owner stops at the tables. At ours, she explained the specials and later checked to make sure we were enjoying the special fish dish - the grouper - which was delicious. All in all, a fantastic experience."

"There are so many goodies to choose from on the menu that it's sometimes hard to narrow down your selections. The menu changes every month, aside from the standards, such as the mussels, so there are always new dishes to try. The rabbit on this month's menu melts in your mouth. This is an ideal place for a fresh, delicious, inventive meal with a lively, warm and relaxed vibe. The owner, Jim, and the servers go out of their way to connect with you personally and make you feel like a valued guest. Without doubt our favorite restaurant in NJ."

"Really really nice food, good for foodies. Loved that they serve off cuts and offal. I think they got too ambitious with the sweetbread and made it too complicated, they really didn't ave to try so hard. They have wonderful produce, everything was fresh and service was good. Very small restaurant but I have to say they are the best restaurant in NJ. They would easily fit in NYC, Hong Kong and London. We had 4 courses each and the bill came up to less then our bottle of champagne, what a bargain. We have already made our next reservation."

"We had a mix of service and food preparation. They were very excited and nformative about their preparations. But as the time went on it was difficult to get anyone's attention, particularly for water refills. WIth 4 of us we tasted many dishes. The fried oysters on grits was very creamy and tasty. The foie gras was good but not anything unusual. The saltimbocca was dry as were the meatballs. My scallops were sweet and good but the dried chorizo was too tough to chew. Our fresh fish dish with pureed zucchini was delicious and the mussels with spicy chorizo was flavorable. As for the smoked chicken leg, stringy but tasty. While a pleasant meal, not a place we will return too soon."

"`This restaurant is a true gem. The reuben meatballs were wonderful as well as the roast crimini mushroom salad. For entrees I picked the seared scallops and my husband the little neck clams both were excellent. All I can say is keep doing what you're doing."

"A real gem hidden away off the beaten path in Cranford NJ. Chef Kara is constantly changing the menu and incorporates the freshest ingredients. There is always something creative on the menu and the food is straight from the farm/markets.
Don't miss "Kara's Mussels" my personal fave in the restaurant. A pot of perfectly cooked Mussels in a saffron broth with tangy sausage meat. Great as an app or a full meal when served with fries."

"This eatery hit on both tastiness of food (we tried many dishes) and superb service in a solid fashion. We didn't realize this was a BYOB, and when asked if he had a bottle to open, we informed the matre d' as much, not thinking anything of it. A lady (appeared to be a manager) then came up to our table to welcome us, and then said she understood we forgot to bring a bottle. She then offered to give us a bottle they had left over from a recent tasting--on the house. It was incredibly generous, and got things started on the right foot. We then proceeded to stuff our faces with the following (all recommended for March): sofia cheese, hand-made pizza, scallops, and the vegetarian entree."

"As weekends are usually fully booked well in advance we finally got a chance to try A Toute Heure on a Tuesday night. We were not dissapointed.
The small dining room was pretty much filled. There were several unique choices on the menu but since I discovered that Tuesdays was mussels day I went with that as my entree. They were excellent.I would have preferred the crusty bread instead of the frittes as the side but it was my fault for not asking for a change."

"I HAVE TRIED FOR MONTHS TO GET A RESERVATION AT A TOUTE HEURE. FINALLY, AFTER BEING INSTRUCTED TO SET MY ALARM FOR 30 DAYS OUT ON THE CALENDAR, I WAS ABLE TO GET A RESERVATION-AT 9PM! WONDERING WHY AT 12:02AM, ALL OF THE EARLIER SPOTS HAD ALREADY BEEN TAKEN, I CALLED THE RESTAURANT TO INQUIRE(COMPLAIN) AND REQUEST AN EARLIER TIME IF THERE WAS A CANCELLATION. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, I GOT A CALL MID-WEEK THAT THERE WAS AN 8PM. SINCE WE WERE TRAVELING AN HOUR, IT WAS MUCH BETTER!

"We had an outstanding meal from beginning to end. The restaurant is small, but charming. The staff is attentive. The mushroom "meatballs" were excellent as was the confit of fennel. Love the cheese course! What to return once a month to try the changes in the menu."
